I do not own Percy Jackson or the Kane Chronicles.
TJ's PoV.
"Di Angelo," Percy repeated thoughtfully, "Any relation to a Maria di Angelo?" Aletta looked shocked at his question.
"Yes, I actually had an older half-sister named Maria." She told him.
"Had?" He asked politely.
"She died in an explosion back in the 1940s." Mrs. di Angelo sighed and pulled two pictures from the duat and handed them to my brother. He came and sat next to me so we can both look at them. "I also have an older half-brother, he's still alive and well. He's still in Italy with his wife and three kids. His oldest is about your two's age." The first picture showed a man and woman standing behind a boy and two girls, all of them are clearly Italian. All of them were smiling. "My brother's name is Anthony and his wife, Victoria. His children are Nico, Maria, and Alicia." She told us and Percy flipped to the next photo. This one was old and in black and white. It showed a beautiful woman and two children, a boy and girl. "Maria had two children as well, Bianca, the oldest and little Nico. He was mine and Anthony's favorite. Always so happy."
"What happened to them when your sister died?" I asked worriedly.
"We don't know." She answered sounding close to tears. "After all this time they may very well be dead." I got up and sat down with her to give her a hug. We sat in silence for a while.
"How come you never told me about your family before?" I finally found the courage to ask.
"Richard never liked it when I talked about my family." She answered slightly out of breath. "Come to think of it no one likes my family much."
"Why not?"
"My family are the descendents of the priests of Ra. We keep his temple and all the ancient spells that the rest of the house have long forgot or didn't care to learn. We are the best at keeping secrets, that's why very few people will trust us."
"Shouldn't they trust you more if you're good at keeping secrets?"
"Most people aren't fond of trusting others, whether they keep secrets or not." Percy answered instead. His voice sounded off. When I looked over at him and was shocked to see a tear run down his face. "Bianca was a good person. I'm glad I got to know her."
"You know Bianca?" Aletta looked up at him hopefully. "Do you know Nico too? Where are they?"
"She saved my life a few years ago at the cost of her own." He said so softly that I almost missed what he said. "Nico was so angry about it for a while." My brother looked so lost as he spoke that I actually felt pain for him.
"Percy, do you think you can take me to see Nico?" Slowly he looked over to Aletta to see her pleading expression.
"I could ask him if he wants to see you."
"Thank you, Percy." He managed to give her a small smile.
Percy left just after lunch, he was still upset from earlier and Matt's harassment wasn't helping him. He even went as far as turning Matt into a clam to get him to shut up. Of course, Sadie laughed when he did it and I could have sworn that Carter rolled his eyes at the two of them. Matt went off to skulk somewhere after he was returned to human form as everyone else went to do what they usually did during the weekends. I just sat back down by the pool, watching our pet crocodiles splash around. A few others came to sit next to me after a few minutes.
"He will be back, TJ." Carter told me. "I think that he still has to get use to you and the house. Though I will admit that Matt hasn't been helping much from what I've seen. Just give him some time to get to know you, when he's sure that he can trust you I'm sure that he will tell you about whatever he has been keeping from you."
"He said that I have to find my own path." I told him quietly.
"He's right." Walt said and I turned to look at him. He switched to Anubis. "I'm sorry for what I did to you, TJ, I wasn't thinking about you when I did that. People from your family background were always such great warriors but they usually only looked out for themselves. They had no loyalty to others. The only time they showed the slightest bit of selflessness were when..." He paused for a moment, "I thought that you would be like them too, and if the House ever needed a ruthless fighter then they would have you because you wouldn't have a choice least you die." Anubis looked down at the ground, ashamed. "It was wrong and I'm so, so sorry to take your freedom from you. It's your life and if you want to, you can go with your brother." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I don't have to be enslaved?
"But you said..."
"I know what I said. That was if you turned against us, but I'm letting you out of that."
"You're my friends and I am not going to up and leave you guys." He looked up at me when I said that. "I don't care if others of my family had no loyalty in the past, I won't betray my friends." He and Carter smiled at me. "Anubis, when you told Mr. Masterrsyn 'if they find him in your possession the consequences will be terrible', you weren't talking about the House of Life, were you?"
"No, I was talking about your father's side of your family." He admitted. "They aren't the most forgiving."
"Who are they?" I asked him.
"It's not my place to tell you. You're father should be the one to claim you." I glared at the teenage death god.
"You make it sound like I'm going to be dragged out to sea." It was then that something clicked in my head. "Claimed by the sea." I whispered to myself. Suddenly most everything made sense. My power over water, my father being an enemy to the House. A different Parthenon, foreign magic the words flew through my mind and I remembered history class, Poseidon, the god of the Sea. "My father is Poseidon."
