Zoe and Wade were awoken the next morning by babbles coming from the crib 6 feet away.
"Dada, Dada." Wyatt called
"Aww" Zoe said while stretching "Morning." She smiled at Wade
Wade yawned and smirked at her. "Morning, I could get used to this."
"So can I." she said and sat up
"Dada, Dada, Dada." Wyatt said again but getting louder
"Does he do this every morning?"
"Yep, my little alarm clock." He smiled and looked at the clock next to his bed. And right on time, 7:15."
Zoe smiled. "That's cute."
"Dada" Wyatt yelled
"Alright" Wade yelled back but laughed "Geez kid." He climbed out of bed and walked to the crib. "You need to learn patience's." He picked him up out of the crib and kissed him. "Morning Dude."
Zoe watched in awe as Wade went into Daddy mode. He changed Wyatt, picked out an outfit, got him dressed, filled his sippy cup with milk and cut up a banana all with Wyatt still in his arms. Wade made small talk with the toddler as he did all this and Zoe just sat back and took it all in.
Wade made his way back over to the bed and put Wyatt down and climbed back in himself. He leaned over and kissed Zoe. "Hi" he smiled
"Hi Daddy" she smiled at him "You are so good with him."
"I like you calling me Daddy." He smirked
"You're so gross." She looked over at Wyatt and rubbed his head. "Morning Buddy."
He turned to her and smiled "Hi Doc."
"Awwwwww." Zoe gushed "His first sentence, I love it."
"That's a sentence?"
"Yes, he put two words together, it's a baby sentence. Has he done that?"
"Nope. You working today?"
"Yeah, my first patient isn't until 10:30 though."
"Nice, what shall we do for breakfast?"
"Let's go to Lavon's." she smiled
"You want to tell them we're back together?" he smirked
"Yes I do."
"Alright." He laughed and looked at Wyatt as he shoved the last piece of banana in his mouth. "I guess his teeth are feeling better."
"That's good, but that is also a banana so who really knows."
Wade nodded. "Mind if I take a quick shower while you're here?"
"Nope, go for it."
"Thanks" he kissed her cheek "I'll be out in a few."
He climbed out of bed and walked in the bathroom.
"Dada" Wyatt said and looked back at Zoe.
"He'll be back, now you and I can talk." She tickled his side and laughed and wiggled towards her.
"Woey." He laughed and smeared banana mush all over her shirt.
"Eww, little boy. You need a napkin." She got out of bed and ran to get him a wipe. He was still sitting in the same spot when she returned. She wiped him up and sat back down next to him. "Now, this Mama thing." She started
"Mama" he smiled at her
"Shhh, no. That needs to stop. This town does not need to hear it, you'll learn one day that this town is crazy. Stick with Doc or Zoe, for now. Hopefully Mama can be used someday in the future."
"Mama" Wyatt laughed
"What did I just say?" she laughed with him
"Mama" he said again
"Oh boy." She shook her head. "Where's Daddy?"
"Dada." He looked at the bathroom door.
Zoe smiled "You're so smart." Just then her phone started ringing and her mom's picture flashed on the screen. "Uh oh." She said
"Uh oh" Wyatt copied.
Zoe laughed "Shh." She told him and hit accept. "Hey Mom" she said in the phone
"Hi Sweetheart. How are you?" Candice asked
"I'm good, how was your trip?"
"Oh it was wonderful, France is so beautiful this time of year."
"That's good. Did you just get home?"
"Two days ago, finally getting settled. How is everything there? Lavon? Joel?"
"Bluebell is great, Lavon's doing well." She paused
"and Joel?" Candice asked skeptically
"Well, Joel and I broke up over a month ago."
"Oh, well I can't say I'm surprised."
"Seriously?" Zoe asked in shock
"Oh Zoe, you didn't actually think you and Joel were going to be together forever did you? He was not right for you at all."
"Wow, thanks for the truth after it ended."
"You wouldn't have listened to me before."
Zoe nodded "True"
"Woey" Wyatt said climbing on her stomach
Zoe put her hand over his mouth to quite him but he bit her. "Ow" she screamed and pulled her hand away from his mouth. "Not nice." She told him
"Who are you talking to?" Candice asked. Zoe tried to think of a good answer but she couldn't come up with anything.
"What happened Doc?" Wade asked coming out of the bathroom
"Is that Wade?" Candice asked
"Possibly." She mouthed "mom" to Wade and he nodded.
"At 8:00 in the morning?"
"Why are you up at 7 in the morning anyway?" she asked trying to change the subject
"Don't dodge my questions young lady. Are you back with Wade?"
"Yes, I am." She beamed
Candice smiled "Zoe." She started
"Don't start" she warned "I love him."
"Ok then, I just hope you know what you're doing."
"Dada" Wyatt screamed when Wade went towards the kitchen
"Um is that a baby?" Candice asked
"Is what a baby?" Zoe asked
Wade shook his head and laughed in disbelief. Zoe picked up a rubber ball from next to the bed and chucked it at him.
"Ow" he said and rubbed the back of his head
"Ow" Wyatt copied
Zoe glared at Wade and he walked back over to the bed, scooped up Wyatt and brought him towards the kitchen "Shhh Ma..Zoe's on the phone with her Mom."
"Woey" Wyatt yelled
"Ok Zoe, what is going on?" Candice asked "I know a baby when I hear one."
Zoe sighed "Ok, don't freak out."
"Zoe please do not tell him you had a baby before you came back to New York."
"What?" Zoe asked in shock but couldn't help but laugh "You're crazy."
"Then why is there a baby?"
"He's Wade's, he's 14 months, his name is Wyatt."
"Interesting." Candice said "How come you never mentioned this little guy in the last 14 months?"
"Well because we only found out about him 2 months ago."
"Hmm." Candice said
"Wade didn't know he existed. His mother died in a car accident a few months ago and child services contacted Wade."
"And he's taken on full responsibility?"
"Yes, he's great with him. Best Dad I have ever seen."
"And you have taken on Mommy duties?" she asked
"Umm, well. We just got back together yesterday."
"Well I want to see this."
"I'll send you a picture." Zoe said quickly trying to get her mother away from the idea of coming down to Bluebell.
"Oh I don't think so. This I have to see with my own two eyes. I will be down there. Before, after or during Christmas? You're choice"
Zoe hung her head in defeat. "You can come for Christmas." Zoe said in her most fake happy voice she could muster up.
"Yay, I'll be there. I can't wait to meet this future grandson of mine." Candice joked
"Mom" Zoe squealed
"Oh please Honey, who are you kidding?"
Zoe rolled her eyes "Whatever. Let me know your information when you know."
"Oh I will and I will call you in a couple of days."
"Bye Mom."
"Bye, say Hi to Wade."
"I will." Zoe said and hung up. She looked over at Wade who was on the couch with Wyatt, quietly reading a book to him. She got off the bed and walked behind the couch, wrapping her arms around Wade and kissing his cheek. "Mom's coming for Christmas."
"Yay" Wade said sarcastically
"What will she judge me for now?" she sighed
"Well, hot boyfriend, adorable kid, successful job. I think you might be judgment free."
"We'll see about that, she'll find something."
Wade kissed her hand. "You ready for breakfast? I'm starving."
"Yes, let's go."
They walked out of the house and over to Lavon's hand in hand. Zoe opened the door with her free hand and saw Lavon and Annabeth at the counter.
"Hi" Wyatt waved
Lavon and AB looked up and smiled. "Good morning you three. I see we are not avoiding each other anymore." Lavon smiled
AB looked down at Zoe and Wade's hands. "I see we have done the complete opposite of avoiding each other. What happened?"
"Well Wyatt was screaming and had a fever and I didn't know what to do so I called the Doc."
"Doc" Wyatt said looking at Zoe
Everyone laughed and Wade continued. "So her, being the good doctor that she is came over and took care of the little teething monster."
"Oh that explains all the drool." AB nodded
"And him chewing on my game controllers." Lavon added
"Yeah, it does." Wade chuckled "So we got him under control and then fixed ourselves." He smiled
They stared at him and waited for more to the story. Wade didn't pick up on that but Zoe did.
"Wyatt called me Mama." She clued them in. "That got us both thinking, a lot."
"Good job Wyatt." Lavon held his hand up and Wyatt slapped him five. "That is one smart kid you got there Wade."
"I have no doubt he did that on purpose." Wade chuckled
"Now my girlfriend can spend the night here for now on?" Lavon asked with a grin
AB laughed and looked at Zoe and then at Lavon "Yes."
"Yes" Lavon cheered. "Thanks little man." He gave Wyatt a thumbs up
"Now for the bad news." Zoe started and AB and Lavon's heads snapped towards her.
"What?" he asked
"My mom is coming for Christmas."
Lavon rolled his eyes "So?" he asked "Have you not told her about Joel?"
"No, I told her that this morning along with being back with Wade and Wyatt."
"Wow, you sprung all that on her?"
"No, Wyatt and his big mouth did." She laughed
Lavon and AB laughed "Nice" she said "At least you won't have to spring that on her when she gets here."
"Oh I know, that would have been super fun." She said sarcastically "But I know she'll find something to judge me for and I know she'll still be difficult."
"Eh, you thought that last Christmas and look how that turned out." Wade smirked "Your Mom will be fine. Stop freaking out." He kissed her head
"Mama" Wyatt laughed and reached for Zoe
Annabeth smiled and Lavon got confused. "Uh, is that sticking?" he asked
"Lavon! Leave them alone, that is the cutest thing I have ever heard." Annabeth gushed
Zoe smiled "No, it needs to stop." She said taking Wyatt from Wade. "We had this talk already today." She poked his belly and he laughed.
"Mama"
"Now he's doing it just because." Wade laughed "I told you last night you had to quit it."
"Mama" Wyatt laughed
"Zoe." Wade told him
"Doc."
"That works too."
"He's such a trouble maker." Zoe laughed "But I love him." She kissed Wyatt and he kissed her back "Woey."
Wade shook his head "Whatever kid as long as you stay away from the other word."
"So how are we telling the town?" Lavon asked
"We're not, they can figure it out themselves."
Annabeth smiled "I guess I didn't win the bet." She laughed "I had next Tuesday."
"You two were in on it too? See I told you there was a bet going on."
"This town has some serious issues." Wade laughed
"Yeah, we might be a little bored."
"Well so much for breakfast, I'll have to grab something on the way. I have to go home and get ready for work. Here, go to Daddy." She told Wyatt and handed him over. "Lunch later?" she asked Wade
"Yeah, sounds good. Text me when you're heading that way, we'll meet you."
"Ok" she kissed him and then Wyatt "Love you." She smiled and turned to leave
"Love you too." He smiled
"Bye Doc." Wyatt waved
"Bye Wyatt. Bye guys." She waved and left the house
Lavon and Annabeth smiled as they watched the interaction in front of them. Wade turned to them. "What?" he asked
"Y'all are cute." Annabeth told him
Wade smiled "Thanks."
