Chapter 4: A Fathers Guilt

That night, Alex was asleep (Kowalski told Alex that he should rest up) while Zuba was watching his son from outside of the tent. Zuba was beginning to feel guilty about not being a good father. He didn't save his son from the hunters when Alakey was a cub. It was his fault that he fought with Makunga without watching his son wandering off and fall into the poachers' hands. When he realize that his son have return (after seeing the mark of Africa on Alex's right paw), he was happy to see his son again; alive. But when Alex lost the right of passage trial, Zuba felt anger and disappointed in his son that he couldn't fight. When Makunga told him and Florrie that Alex went off of reserve to find what happen to the water, he felt fear rushing into him again and ran as fast as he can to save his son. But when the people from New York were cheering as Alex dance, he realize that this was his son and his son was saving both of them from being killed by these people by dancing. But the minute they finish dancing as father and son, the old lady (Nana) shot Alex making Zuba felt sadness, fear, angry (at himself and Nana) all in one. Zuba wished that it was him in Alex's place; he should be the one who got shot, not his son. Zuba wanted to protect his son like a father should, but he failed. He felt like he let his son down. He remember when Alakey was just a cub, his son would always look up to him like he was his son's idol. Zuba sighed while having his head down.

"I'm such a terrible father." Zuba thought.

Then he heard a grone. Zuba looked at his son and notice that he was asleep but the face tell him that he felt pain. Not knowing what to do, Zuba walked over to his son and kneel down.

"You ok, Alakey?" Zuba asked.

Alex open one of his eyes.

"Just a little pain, but I'm fine dad." Alex said.

Zuba nodded then kissed his son on the forehead.

"Just rest son, ok." Zuba said.

"Ok." Alex replied as he fell asleep again.

Zuba lay next to his son, not wanting to leave his son for a second.

Zuba sighed once more "Get better, Alakey, my son."
