I am so so so so sorry it took me this long to update. I seem to be out of my rut and the updates should come quicker now. I hope you enjoy this chapter.
"Wade" Zoe yelled from the upstairs bedroom
"Wade" Wyatt yelled from the living room
"Ahh, one minute" Wade yelled back while trying to juggle a juice cup, a water bottle and two plates of food all while avoiding the maze of Tonka trucks on the floor. "Let's go Wy." He nodded towards the stairs.
"No" he said and sat on floor.
"Are you kidding me? Wyatt let's go."
"Nope, here." He pointed to the couch
"Mama is upstairs and she can't come down so we have to go to her. Move it."
"No thank you." He grinned at his father.
Wade hung his head. "Fine don't eat, I'm going to see Mama. Enjoy your alone time." He said and then headed up the stairs.
"No Daddy, I come." Wyatt yelled and ran after him. "I see Mama."
"Little jerk" Wade mumbled and continued up the stairs and into his bedroom. "Your son just loves to drive me insane."
"Yeah, he's good at that." She smiled and looked at Wade's armful of food and drinks. "Did you bring my crackers?"
"Damn it." He sighed and placed everything down very carefully on the bed. "I'll be right back."
"Thank you." She smiled sweetly as he left the room.
On his way back up the stairs, Wyatt yelled "Daddy, apes."
"Please" he heard Zoe whisper
"Peas" Wyatt yelled.
Wade turned back around and ran down the stairs. "I'm not doing this again." He told himself. "These two are going to drive me batty." He grabbed the grapes off the counter and went back upstairs. "I'm not going back down there." He said as he gently sat down on the bed.
"Thank you." Zoe smiled
"You're welcome." He kissed her
"Mmm I miss you." Zoe whispered kissing him back
"Naw naw" Wyatt laughed
Wade grunted. "We need alone time." He looked over at Wyatt
"I can't do much more than that anyway, a couple more weeks."
"Yeah." He sighed
"Where is your lunch?" Zoe asked
"Son of biā¦scuit. I'm not going back down again." He stole a quarter of Wyatt's sandwich.
"Hey" Wyatt yelled "Mine"
"Hey, I made it." Wade yelled back.
"Freshie" Zoe chuckled tussling Wyatt's hair. "You plan on going back to work anytime soon?"
"Umm, when you can walk. Why you tired of me?"
"Never, I was just wondering. You can't just sit around and take care of us 24/7 though. I know you, you're going to go insane."
"No I'll be fine. Rammer Jammer is under control and you two aren't that much trouble."
"I hope you're right."
Two weeks later Wade woke up to his phone ringing at 5am. "Why?" he grumbled and looked at the screen. "Hey Chester, what's wrong?"
"The ovens aren't working. I've tried everything I can think of."
"Alright, I'll be right there." He gently got out of bed and threw on his jeans from the day before. He ripped a shirt out of the closet and quietly moved towards the door.
"Where are you going?" Zoe whispered
"Rammer Jammer, ovens aren't working. I'll be home as soon as I can."
"Ok." She mumbled and went back to sleep
3 hours later and finally 3 working stoves Wade was back home. He was exhausted and just wanted to crawl back into bed. Between Zoe, Wyatt and the Rammer Jammer lately he felt like he was constantly moving and never had a chance to breathe. He heard a crash as he was starting to head up the stairs. "Uh oh." He said and ran up the stairs and into Wyatt's room. "What are you doing?" he yelled and looked down at the broken lamp on the floor. "Wyatt are you kidding me." He snapped
"Oops" Wyatt said as Zoe walked into his room
"Wade why are you screaming, you need to calm down." She said and then looked at the mess on the floor. "Oh my gosh, is he ok?"
"Yeah he's fine, his lamp isn't though. How did you do that?"
"Shoe."
"You threw your show? Are you kidding me? Why?" he started raising his voice again
"Wade stop yelling at him. It's not that big of a deal."
"Sorry. He's just so frustrating these past couple weeks."
"Because you won't let me or anyone help with anything. Wyatt, why did you break your lamp?"
"Light no on."
"You don't throw your show at it to do that. We're building you a cage."
"Roar" Wyatt imitated a bear
"Come on Little Bear, let's let Daddy clean this up and we can talk about the importance of not breaking things."
"No break tings?"
"No, it's not nice."
"Oh" he nodded his head "Sowwy."
"It's ok. No more throwing shoes either." She told him
"Ok."
"You ok with him?" Wade asked as they walked towards the door
"Yes Wade, I'm fine. You can relax, I'm going back to work in 3 days."
"I still don't love that idea. You're still sore."
"Not really, I'm all better, Doctor said so. And I can't keep lying around the house and you can't be taking care of everything. We need to get back to our normal lives."
"I guess, I just don't want you doing too much before you're ready."
"I'm ready, for anything." She winked at him
Wade smirked at her. "Anything?" he asked
"Anything."
"Well uh, then he needs to go on a vaca to Grandpa's house."
"I'll call him later. Clean up this mess."
Two weeks later Zoe was fully back to normal. She was working her normal hours, lifting Wyatt and doing everything else that needs to be done. Earl spent the last two weeks in Pensacola with Jesse so Zoe and Wade's alone time was slim to none.
"Baby." Wade whined one night while they were lying in bed. "Can't we send him to Lavon and AB's for a night.
"I'm not going to just ask them to watch him so we can get our freak on."
"Get out freak on? Who says that?" Wade laughed
"I don't know." She laughed with him. "Your Dad comes home tomorrow." She suggested
"Oh he does. You think he'd take the kid?"
"He might. Every time we skype he says how much he misses him and can't wait to spend time with him again."
"Then I say this weekend he spend a whole two days with him. We should go away."
Zoe smiled "I like that idea. Where we gonna go?"
"Anywhere you want."
"I'll think about it and look up some places tomorrow. Somewhere romantic?" she asked
"Well, yeah." He said "Just me and you." He leaned over and kissed her.
"I can't wait."
Early that Saturday morning Wade was packing up the car while Zoe filled Earl in on all things Wyatt.
"Zoe, relax yourself. I know my grandson and all his behaviors. He is just like his Daddy and Uncle when they were his age. The good thing, there is only one of him."
"Ok I know, I'm sorry. I just hate leaving him."
"It gets easier."
Zoe scoffed. "When?"
"About 13 years when he's become a little jerk all teenage boys become."
She laughed. "Maybe."
"Zo you ready? Come on we're wasting day light."
"The sun literally just came up."
"I know, let's go!" he yelled grabbing her purse.
"Someone's excited." Earl chuckled
"Just a little." Zoe smirked "Ok, I'm coming." She hugged Earl. "Thank you so much Dad, we will call when we get there."
"No problem. I'm excited. You two have fun in Biloxi and don't stress. Just have a good time."
"Oh we will." Wade smirked. "Thanks Pop. He shouldn't be that much trouble."
After they passed the city limit sign Zoe turned to Wade. "Ya know, we could have waited to leave until he woke up."
"No because then we would have never left. You would be cryin and moaning about how much you're going to miss him and then he'll be playing the cute card and yeah, we'd maybe leave tomorrow morning."
"Oh stop it. It wouldn't have been that bad." Wade quickly glared at her and then turned back towards the road. "Oh quiet." She smirked
They checked into the hotel and went up to their room.
"Ok so I want to go down to the beach or the pool, it's gorgeous out. Then tonight I want to go to dinner at that margarita place and then hit the casino."
"Woah woah woah Zoe. You have all these plans and all I want to do lay in that bed with you for 24 hours."
"Wade Kinsella. We could do that at home. I want a fun weekend doing stuff with you."
"We could have fun doing stuff in here."
"No. Now I'm going to get changed and I'll be ready in a half hour to go out."
"Fine, but you owe me some fun in there." He pointed to the bed
"Ok Cowboy." She shook her head as she walked into the bathroom with her bikini.
"You're wearing that?" he asked
"Yes sir." She winked
"Alright, we can go out." He jumped up from the bed and started digging through his bag.
They made their way down to the pool and grabbed two lounge chairs.
"It's gorgeous out." Zoe said as she slipped out of her sandals and kicked them under the chair.
"Yeah it is, I'm pretty sure it's the same temperature at home but this feels so much nicer."
"It's a vacation, they're always better." She pulled her cover up over her head and tossed it. "What?" she asked looking at Wade staring at her.
"You're freaking hot." He groaned with a smirk
Zoe blushed. "Shut up."
"I will not. Mmm" he moaned and pulled her into him, giving her a kiss.
Zoe broke the kiss with a smile. "Alright settle down." She looked down at her side and looked at the scar from her surgery. "Is it noticeable?"
Wade looked where she was looking. "Not at all. It's barely there."
"I can see it."
"Because you know it's there." He ran his finger over it. "It's sexy." He whispered
"Oh my gosh." She giggled "You're sick. Are we going swimming or not." She asked and broke away from his grasp, jumping in the pool.
After a few hours down by the pool they went back upstairs and got dressed for dinner.
"Zo, are you ready yet? Wade yelled from the bed.
"I'll be out in one second. Just finishing my make-up."
"One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi." He continued to count until she appeared in front of him. "Ten Mississippi." He finished
"You done?" she asked
"Yep." He smirked "Let's go." He stood up and took her hand in his.
They went downstairs and had a nice romantic dinner before heading over to the casino. They walked back towards the casino and looked around.
"I'm excellent at Blackjack." Zoe said pointing to a table
"You are?" he asked
"Yeah, my dad taught me when I was little. I used to play with him and my Uncle Dexter every Hanukkah."
"Well then, go for it Doc."
"Ok, you want to get us some drinks?"
"Yeah, ok. I'll be right back."
She smiled at him and sat down at the table with two other people and put her chips down. The dealer started dealing and the game was under way.
"Where are you from?" a guy in his mid to late 30s leaned over towards Zoe.
"Alabama." She simply said
"Really? Me too, I'm from Fillmore. You heard of it?"
Zoe scrunched up her face in disgust. "I have." She said back nicely
"Ya know you're pretty hot."
"Thanks." She was getting annoyed and couldn't wait for this round to be over so she could walk away.
Wade was walking back with their drinks when he saw the guy leaning a little too close to Zoe.
"You here alone?"
She just glared at him and flashed him her engagement ring.
"Well I don't see him." He said smugly
"You want to look again?" Wade snapped from right behind the guy. The guy jumped back and almost wacked Wade in the face with his hand. "You tryna hit me?" Wade said
Zoe jumped up from the table and put her hands on Wade's chest. "No calm down. It was a reflex."
Wade growled "You're lucky." He looked at the guy.
"Let me just finish this game and we can go." She told him
She only had to sit there for another three minutes and then got to walk away. She took her chips, shot the Fillmoron a nasty glare and walked towards Wade.
"Did you win at least?" he asked
"Yes I did. Doubled what I bet." She smiled proudly
"That's my girl. Can we go back to the room though?"
"You tired?" she asked
"No, but I'd like to get there." He winked
She smiled. "Well I won't argue with that."
The next morning the spent half the day on the beach then packed up the car and headed home.
"That was a great weekend. We really should do it more often." Zoe suggested
"Yeah, it was a great little stress reliever.
"Good, you were getting a little cranky for a while."
"I wonder how Dad did. Did we call home at all?"
"I did this morning and last night. Wyatt was great he said."
"Of course he was. When we get home he'll go crazy again."
"Yep." She smiled "But I can't wait. I've missed him so much."
"I have too."
They pulled into their driveway two hours later and Zoe wasn't even out of the car before Wyatt was running out of the house and jumping off the porch. Earl following quickly behind.
"Mama, Daddy." He yelled
"Oh my gosh, don't jump off that." She freaked picking him up
"Hi." He hugged her
"Hi Baby." She hugged him back. "I missed you."
"Miss you too." He said and then looked at Wade rounding the back of the car. "Daddy" he reached for him.
"Hey Little Bear." He took him from Zoe. "Were you good for Paw Paw?"
"Yes." He smiled
"Was he?" Wade asked Earl
"Yes he was, lots of energy though. I'm older than I think." He chuckled
Wade laughed. "Sorry Pop."
"Nah, we had fun, didn't we?"
"Yes sir." Wyatt laughed. He wiggled down from Wade's grasp and looked up at Zoe. "I go pee." He told her
"What?" she asked
"Potty, I pee."
"You do?" she yelled
"Yeah he does, he's good at it." Earl told them
"Oh my gosh I go away for not even 48 hours and my baby starts going on the potty. Never again." She tells Wade.
"That is not what we said in the car." He rolled his eyes and tried to act frustrated.
"He goes everywhere with us for now on."
"This will stop right?" he asked Earl
"Yeah and then you'll have another one." He slapped his son on the back.
Wade smiled "Can't wait."
