Brax and Heath were sitting in the visiting area in the prison yard. Both had barely uttered a word since they'd got there. Brax rubbed his face, "Look, when he gets here let me do the talking" Brax instructed. Heath grunted, acknowledging what Brax had said. Brax had told Heath he didn't have to come if he didn't want to but Heath wasn't going to let him do this on his own, they both had to be there for each other and Casey.
Both brothers looked up as a buzzer sounded signalling visiting time. Five minutes later a tall, tattooed, vaguely familiar man emerged. "Boys" he nodded greeting the, both brothers shifted in their seats, "How are ya. Why Heath havent you grown" Danny smirked. Brax butted in, "We are not here for small talk Danny" He growled, "We're here for Casey."
"Ah Casey. Where is the little man. How old must he be now, four?"
"Eight." Brax replied.
Danny laughed, "Wow its been longer then I thought, what mess you boys got yourselves into, if he's been kicked out of school you know I wont be helping, education is for the -". Brax interrupted, "Just stop!" he growled, "Casey is sick, we need help with the medical bills. There well over $80,000. Nearer to $100,000 actually" Brax explained. Danny laughed harshly, "Medication is for the weak. When you boys got sick we didn't even have to take you to the doctors. You've obviously made the kid weak Darryl". Heath stood up, slamming his hands down on the table in anger, "You dog!" He shouted, "He's got cancer. We have no choice its treatment or loosing him. It is literally all or nothing!" He shouted, shaking. Brax pushed Heath back down into his seat, calming him down, the last thing they needed was the security asking them to leave before they had the chance to do what they came for. "Ha! Still got that Braxton temper" Danny smirked, ignoring the swear word Heath muttered under his breath, "So where do I come into this mess?" Danny asked. Heath quietly muttered, "because your his dad". Brax cleared his throat, hating himself slightly for what he was about to do. "Because I'm sure you have some dodgy deals lined up on the outside, or at least a couple of hundred dollars lying around somewhere".
Danny leaned back in his chair. "And what if I do, cant do nothing from in here".
"We'll sort it… If you agree to help us get the money". Danny considered it for a second before nodding slowly. "Right, give us a week" Brax said before the two brothers stood up and left.
"You alright mate?" Brax asked.
"Yeah, so what now?"
"I'll sort it, I should be able to get him out by next week and then once we have the money we're done with him." Heath nodded, "Okay, and what do we do now?"
Brax smiled, "How about we go for a surf before I have to head back to the hospital?" Heath nodded, feeling happy and normal for the first time since Casey had been taken back into hospital, "Hell yeah!" He laughed.
The two brother emerged from the water running up the beach laughing, "That was epic. Shame you couldn't keep up old man," Heath said picking up his towel, drying his hair off.
"Atleast I didn't wipe out on a kiddy wave!"
"Hay! It was bigger then it looked!" Heath grinned. Brax laughed, "Im sorry for this mess, you know getting dad involved and stuff, I just didn't see what else we could do," Brax said all of a sudden turning serious. "Its cool, he's just pathetic but we need him, Casey needs him," Heath shrugged, "And who knows he may have changed" Heath said.
"Doubt it" Brax mumbled, "Alright, I need to get back to the hospital, I dont feel comfortable leaving him there all day on his own" Brax confessed.
"Nah I understand, Id be petrified if I were him, plus those beds are so horrible… and it would be super boring…" Heath trailed off, suddenly having an idea, "Urm, I will meet you at the hospital, I just have something to do before I come!" He said picking up his surf bored, running off. Brax laughed slightly, pulling on his top and heading to the ute.
Brax walked into Casey's room once he arrived, smiling at his brother who was curled up in the hospital bed asleep. "Hey, Case" Brax said quietly as he sat down, "Case, wake up" He said, pushing the young boys hair off his face which was stuck down with the clamminess of the fever. Casey stirred, rubbing his eyes, "Brax?" He whispered, opening his eyes dazed, "Where did you go?" He asked, trying to sit up, Brax put his hands on the young boys shoulders to stop him, "Relax Case".
"Where did you go?" Casey asked, "Did you sort out what you needed to?" Brax nodded.
"How are you feeling?" Brax asked, frowning when Casey shrugged, "Have you eaten anything or had a drink?" Brax asked.
"No, I still don't feel like I can eat anything but I've tried to drink some water, but I didn't really keep much of it down." Brax frowned. "Alright, well Dr. Walker said we may have to put you on some more fluids through on of those tubes to give you the nutrients, but it will be okay, so dont let it stress you out," Brax said, feeling bad that such simple things such as eating and drinking had become such a struggle for him.
Back at home Heath was putting his idea into action. Once he had finished he made his way to the hospital.
