She sighed. "Jack, could I talk to you about Mina?"
"Yes, my dearest. Is something the matter?"
"No, but she's been distant since she's married." Powdering her nose, she said glumly, "I almost wonder if she cares for anybody at all except for Jonathan."
"I'm sure that she does care for others, Lucy. She's very attached to him, that's all. They've been married only since September."
"We've also been married since September, and you and I aren't like that, at least not that badly."
"My job doesn't permit us to be that way. But that's not a bad thing. Perhaps I'm biased, but I'm certain that I love you more than any man has ever loved any woman."
Lucy smiled and sighed with relief. "Are you almost done, Jack? Your suit is laid out, and we'll be late if you don't hurry."
"I'm hurrying Lucy, please! Work on your knitting for awhile, perhaps. You seem tense."
"I'm just excited!" she exclaimed. "I so love Christmas, and everything that goes with it. The food, the presents, the music, the mistletoe, which, by the way," she turned to him, "has white berries."
He shook his head at her. "We'll just have to see, sweetheart. But I'm quite certain they're red."
