I don't own anyone but Terra.

A girl around the age of ten years was being led into her father's office. As she was walking down the hallway she wonders if she had gotten into trouble again but she could not think of what she did wrong. The only thing that she could think of was not doing well enough on the training obstacle he had set up for her. Her father always puts too much pressure on her. If she did not do things in the correct manner then he could snap very easily at the littlest things.

Finally reaching the office area his secretary paged the girl's father that she was there. The secretary told the little girl that she could go in to see her father. She walked past the secretary and saw her father sitting behind the desk. He was actually smiling at her. It was a rare emotion, but towards her it appeared more often than not. At the same time sadness was in his eyes. Her father handed the little girl a postcard that had the three starters on it for their region; Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. It stated that the little girl could come to Pallet Town and go to Professor Oak's lab to pick out one of the Pokémon. He told his little girl that his first 'official' Pokémon was a Charmander that became the guardian of their home. He also stated that she had the freedom to choose whatever one she wanted and there was no pressure to choose the same one. After telling the little girl all of this she was dismissed and was to prepare for her adventures. Jessie and James, who walked the little girl to the office, were called in to talk to their boss.

"Jessie, James stop spying at the door and come into my office." A red haired young adult and a purple-blue haired adult came into the office and stood in front of the desk. "You two may be seated." They followed the order and sat down in the chairs.

"As the two of you overheard, my darling little girl is getting ready to go on her journey. I believe that this will do her good in terms of developing her character. Your assignment is simple. The two of you are to follow her without her knowing it. Protect her from harm until she becomes strong enough to defend herself. Also you are to report back to me at least once a week. Do the two of you understand?!" The man looked at the two of them waiting for a response.

"Yes Sir!" they saluted him. The two of them left after being dismissed to go pack their bags for what was to be very tedious few months at least.

The Beginning of Terra's Journey (2 days later)

The man with his little girl stood outside their manor-style home and they hugged each other. He stated that he was proud of the girl no matter what may happen to her. It was a rare occasion that the man displayed such affection but this was worth it. The limo that had pulled up stopped and the driver stepped outside to open the door. The man told the driver to take the little girl to the front gate of Professor Oak's laboratory.

Before the little girl got into the car, she stopped and took one last look at the manor that had been her home for the past ten years. All of her pet Pokémon were looking at her from her bedroom window. They were barking, meowing, and making cute little sound as if they were saying 'goodbye and see you soon'. The hardest one to leave behind was her talking Meowth, Denari. Her father thought it would be best to leave Denari behind because of his talking abilities. Scientists would have hurt Denari to try and learn why he was able to talk. In general, Denari would be viewed by the outside world as a very rare and valuable Pokémon not as a member of their family.

Denari POV and thought

The furry little Meowth was running through the manor hallways. The previous two days it had been begging its master and the master's father to let it go on the journey with master. Neither one of them would listen to the poor little creature arguments. So Denari thought of a plan to sneak into its master's bag and then she would have no choice but to take care of it.

The creature reached the doggie door and slipped out. It took a moment to enjoy the fresh air and the started to look around for the limo that the master was taking to 'Pallet Town'. Then suddenly the motor of the limo roared up. The creature looked over and saw its master leaving. Mentally Denari was freaking out and was about to cry when suddenly spotted Jessie and James getting their hot air balloon ready.

"Jessie, James can I ask you guys for a favor" Denari looked at the two of them with pleading eyes.

"If you're asking for your lunch the servants will take care of that. We have a mission and will be gone for some time. Now be a good little cat and run along." Apparently, Jessie knew about the arguments that have been occurring between Master, the master's father, and Denari. Their boss had stated in front of them that he would not be happy if Denari was outside the manor's property line.

"You're wrong Jessie! All I want to do is reconnect with my Master. I miss her but I need a ride since I don't know where this 'Pallet town' is." Denari decided to use the trick of looking cute via its eyes. It usually gets the Master to do whatever it wanted.

It could not believe the pathetic human James fell for it. "Of course you can come along! Little miss would like that very much. This brings back so many memories…Growlie…I miss you." James broke down in tears while Denari jumped into the balloon's basket. At the same time Jessie rolled her eyes towards the creature and then grabbed its shoulder blade. Poor little Denari was forced to look into Jessie's scary eyes.

"Fine Denari you can come along on one condition. If the boss ever finds out that you are with us then you take fault all by yourself. You will not be dragging James and me down. Do you understand?!"

"Sure anything you want. Plus the boss would never hurt me at least not without Master's permission." Denari had to take a breather after Jessie finally let go of its shoulder.

(A/N Back to Terra's POV)

Sitting in a limo was nothing special for the girl. It's how her father preferred to travel on land. She looked at the postcard again and began to wonder which one of the starter Pokémon she would choose. First, there was Charmander, the fire Pokémon. The same one her father started off with on his journey. Even though he told her that she did not have to choose part of her was leaning towards it. The next Pokémon was Squirtle, the water turtle Pokémon. Even though she usually liked water Pokémon something about Squirtle gave her the creeps about it. Finally, the last Pokémon was Bulbasaur the plant/animal Pokémon. Charmander and Bulbasaur were the cutest Pokémon to her in this choice set. She had no clue to which one she was going to pick. Finally, the limo pulled up in front of the laboratory's gateway. After thanking the driver and gather her stuff, she overheard two boys that were standing at the main gate.

"Hey Gary! Whose is that pulling up in the limo?" One of the boys had black hair that was covered with a baseball cap that was red and white with logo of the league on it. He looked familiar to the girl as did the other boy. "How the hell am I supposed to know Ashie-boy?!" The girl decided it was time to step forward and stop hiding by the trunk cover. Apparently, the girl was a few inches shorter than the two boys. The other boy reminded her of a hedgehog at least with his hair. The boys seemed stunned to see her. So she decided to introduce herself. She also asked which one was 'Ashie-boy' and the other one's name. They introduced themselves as Ash (not 'Ashie-boy') and Gary Oak, grandson of the world famous Professor Samuel Oak. She could tell that he was hitting on her and she replied to him that she was only impressed by his grandfather and not him.

The three of them went up the main entrance stairway. As they went up, the three of them chatted about themselves. She told them that she was from Viridian City and that her dad was the strongest trainer in the city. She also stated that her father was a business man who knew everyone that was important in the Pokémon world. By the time she finished talking about all of this they arrived at Professor Oak's laboratory's main doors. The doors opened to reveal a grey-haired man with a lab coat. Professor Oak had greeted Ash and Gary but then looked over to girl.

"Excuse me miss, but can you tells me why you are here?" He looked at her with curiosity. The girl shook her head in disgust and just pulled out the postcard and presented it to him. "Oh! Yes now I remember. You are Terra Sakaki from Viridian City! It's a pleasure to meet you." He was offering his hand. She took it and shook it just to be polite. "You'll have to forgive me Terra. Sometimes I have these senior moments. To make it up to you, I will let you pick first." The Professor led them to a table that had three pokéballs on it. "Inside these three pokéballs are Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, the Kanto starters." Professor Oak had release the Pokémon from the balls so they can see their choices. He then told the three future trainers to take a moment to think about it before they were to choose.

Each of the trainers was eyeing the three starters as if they were rare candy for humans. All of their life decision was geared towards this one moment. Choosing the right Pokémon could decide your fate as a trainer. Well since Terra knew the first few gyms were rock and water type specialty unlike the others, she had decided that the Bulbasaur will join her on the journey. The others looked ready as well so Terra decided to speak up. "Professor, I've decided. I choose Bulbasaur." The little green Pokémon looked up in joy at the thought of getting to travel around the world battling, and the fact it got picked first. "Come here Bulbasaur!" She gave it a huge hug and welcomed it to her team. Ash went next and chose Charmander while Gary was happy with Squirtle. "Well, the three of you can give a nickname to your Pokémon, if you want to." Professor Oak told them. "Well, I am calling Bulbasaur, Flora, from now on." Terra stated it to the little Pokémon. Terra told the three of them that she liked to name her Pokémon like that. Ash had decided to call Charmander, Lucky Charms. Gary decided to call his Squirtle, Shell-Shocker. After the nicknaming of the Pokémon, Professor Oak gave each of them a device called a Pokédex and explained it functions.

"Hey! Why don't the three of us have a battle?" Gary stated to Ash and Terra.

"Not in my laboratory! Take it outside!" Professor Oak said to Gary. Gary just chuckled at his grandfather's outburst and led Ash and Terra towards the outdoor battlefield that the Professor had.

Amongst the three of them, Terra was to battle Ash first and then Gary. Gary was going to be supervising the match. Ash and Terra sent their Pokéballs. Ash had sent out Lucky Charms and she sent out Flora. The two Pokémon braced for battle.

"Flora, Growl!" Flora did what Terra told her to do and lowered Lucky Charm's attack power. Lucky Charms jumped into the air and tried to scratch Flora but it barely did any damage to her. "Lucky Charms do the same thing and growl at Flora!" Ash had called out from his side of the battlefield. The attack was successful. At the same time Terra told Flora to charge at Lucky Charms and tackle him. Due to the growl attack the move did only half the damage it should have at the same time Lucky Charms scratched Flora. It hit Flora in the sensitive spot for a Bulbasaur, the bulb's connection point to the creature's back.

"Come on Flora shake it off. Deliver the final blow! One more tackle attack!" Flora was able to muster up enough strength to do what I told her to do. Like I predicted it was enough to knock out Lucky Charms.

"The winner is Flora and Terra!" Gary held up his hand to indicate that this match was over and that Terra was the winner. Ash recalled his Pokémon and switched places with Gary. Gary sent out Shell-Shocker when he reached the other side of the battle field. At the same time Terra recalled Flora to let her rest even though she would have the advantage.

"Hey Terra! Why did you recall Flora? She is your only Pokémon, right?" Ash shouted from the sidelines as Professor Oak and Gary waited for me to respond.

"Don't worry I have another Pokémon. Come on out Bam-Bam!" Terra chucked as she threw his ball into the air as a little Cubone appeared. When Terra received him, her father put a blue bow around its neck before he gave Bam-Bam to her. Terra could tell Bam-Bam was ready to pounce. He stood tall and did his battle pose at Shell-Shocker. "My Dad gave me Bam-Bam when I was five years old. He trained me in battling. Bam-Bam and I are a team. Nothing can defeat the two of us! Use bone club on Shell-Shocker!" Bam-Bam obeyed her command. The bone club apparently hit Shell-Shocker so hard that he went into a confused state. "Bam-Bam! Head-butt Shell-Shocker! Then switch over to bone club!" Her sweet little Bam-Bam began to charge and then jumped into mid-air to bash his head into Shell-Shocker. Then Bam-Bam took its bone and bashed Shell-Shocker's head.

Poor little Gary told Shell-Shocker to tackle Bam-Bam as hard as it could. Like that will do any damage. Shell-Shocker was still in a confused state of mine. The crowd, including Terra, watched Shell-Shocker respond by hurting himself. It was enough to knock out Shell-Shocker and Ash declaring Terra the winner of the match. Bam-Bam ran up and jumped into my arms to cheer. She also gave her little guy a treat for winning. ******************************************************************************

Standing in front of the main gate of Professor Oak's laboratory the three of them decided to say their goodbyes to one another. Gary all of a sudden decided to run up towards Terra.

"Um….Wait a minute Terra!" She turned around to see him running and finally stopping in front of her. "Terra…I was wondering if you…want to come with me on my journey. We can go in my convertible that Gramps got for me." Terra was shocked and surprised at Gary's offer. However, it was cute that Gary was a little bit embarrassed. The cheerleaders told Gary to come on and to hurry up. They were also asking why it was important that Terra come along and that she would ruin their fun.

"Sorry, Gary but I preferred to walk…just like my Dad. It also gives me the freedom that I have been craving for. Plus we could see more Pokémon and battle more trainers that way. Please Gary come walk with me! You won't regret it." She battered her eyes towards him. Terra didn't know why but she wanted him to get the full experience. Her hand was reaching out for his hand. Gary took Terra hand and hopped out of the convertible. He then went to the trunk and grabbed his backpack. Gary then told the cheerleaders to take the car back to the garage and tell his Gramps that he was going to be walking with Terra. She stuck out her tongue at the cheerleaders while mentally laughing her head off at their reactions.

Suddenly Terra realized that Ash was not around. "Gary, have you seen Ash?" Gary turned around and began looking around while she looked too. After a few minutes, Gary stated "Oh well! Looks like Ash went home to grab his stuff. We should get a move on. I prefer if we make it to Viridian City before sunset."

The two of them started to walk on Route 1 and headed towards Viridian City. Along the way each of them caught rattata, spearow, and pidgey. All three were easy to catch for the two hardcore trainers.

"Well we're almost there. Terra, you're from Viridian City right? Who is the gym leader?" Terra almost turned white when Gary asked about the gym leader. It's not that she is ashamed of her Dad being the gym leader when he was actually there. Her family only has one rule and that is to keep their private life private which included the secrets of the gym. As her father explained to her, no one is to know that Terra is his daughter or that she fills in sometimes as the gym leader (except the league and the other gym leaders know it because they had to approve of it before she could do that).

"Well Gary. The gym leader is the strongest in the region. He only battles those that have seven badges. I heard that he specializes in ground Pokémon." She was hoping the seven badges thing will throw Gary off for a while. Thankfully, it worked and Gary stated that they would have to come back after they each got the seven badges requirement.
