This was only meant to be a one-shot but I forgot to hit the complete button. I then had this idea and it's only short but I think it ends the story nicely. I hope you like it.
Disclaimer: I don't own Castle or the characters.
Beckett entered the loft quietly, trying not to make a noise as she knew everyone would be asleep at this time of the night. She quickly toed off her shoes, placed her coat across the back of the chair and made her way to her bedroom.
In Castle's study, the light coming through the window from the city lights made her turn her head and the plant sitting on Castle's desk caught her eye. It was their plant, who they now both referred to as Gertrude. Beckett had originally disliked the name but it's grown on her and she smiles fondly at the plant that has grown rather big over the last 4 years. She remembered how sweet Castle had been to get her the plant that symbolised their relationship as well as how much she'd already loved him, even so soon in their relationship.
She continued through to their bedroom and the sight in front of her brought another smile to her face, her boys curled up together sleep. Castle was on his back with their little boy curled into his side, Castle's large arm around him to hold him close.
Beckett quickly changed, exhausted from her long day at work before climbing into bed beside them. In the morning Beckett would tell Castle that their son should be sleeping in his own bed, like they'd already talked about, but tonight (or this morning) she wanted nothing more than to curl up with them in bed together.
The little boy stirred in Castle's arms and looked up when his mother climbed into bed.
"Hey, Harry," Beckett whispered, reaching over to brush the boy's hair from over his eyes as he opened them.
He smiled sleepily, wriggling a bit to loosen his father's hold on him before he crawled over Castle's chest into his mother's arms.
Once Harry was settled again, now against Beckett's side, she began lightly stroking his back and whispered to him, "go to sleep, baby."
Beckett looked up then and saw that Castle was awake and watching them, a smile on his face as he took in the scene before him, his wife and child cuddling in bed beside him.
"Come here," he said, lifting his arm and shifting over slightly so he could wrap his arm around the both of them, Harry now nestled between them.
"Goodnight," she whispered, tilting her head so she could kiss him hello, having missed him even though she'd seen him less than twelve hours ago.
"Goodnight," he whispered back, speaking quietly as to not wake their son who was now asleep again between them.
Beckett settled in closer to him then, slipping a leg through his, loving the comfort being this close to him gave her. His arm was resting around her shoulder and she could feel the coolness of his wedding ring pressed against her upper arm.
Sometimes she still can't believe the life she has and who she gets to spend it with, her two boys who she loves more than anything in the world. It always amazes her to think back to where her and Castle started to where they are now. He was her favourite author, then they became acquaintances, then friends and then so much more. He was her best friend, her family, and she got to spend the rest of her life loving him, loving their son and being loved herself.
Wrapped in her husband's warmth, she fell asleep with a smile on her face as she did most nights now, in the arms of the ones she loves.
Thoughts?
