GRAND UPDATE! :D
Hey, guys! Sorry for the long wait, busy with school and stuff. But now I'm here with a new chapter! So you're VERY VERY welcome! :D
And I'm a bit evil with Kyle... Just 'cause I can... :)
So, enjoy the chappy!
Three weeks passed since the hectic day and the confession. Meanwhile, Sam and Harry had spent more time together to build their relationship, but they found time to make visits in the hospital. They were happy to find out that Kyle was getting better: he gained some color, some weight and the nasal cannula was taken away. The heart monitor was wheeled out on the last day of the three weeks. But much greater news was that Dean and Kyle's relationship was improving, too: the man had been resting in Kyle's bed, protecting the delicate soul with his own body. Sam even found out that at nights when his brother guarded the boy's dreams, he caressed the peaceful face with his fingers. Although there were some bad days – sudden sickness, a few black-outs -, on the last day the heart monitor was beeping faster and stronger.
A call came this afternoon: Dean informed the others that Kyle's going to be released. The Impala was already waiting for them in front of the hospital and the others were cleaning the house. Harry was cooking and Sam was decorating the living room. Harry made a welcoming banner on his own, which got a proud smile onto Sam's face.
As everything got ready, the deep purr of the Impala floated into the house. Harry grinned excitedly and bounced on his feet. Sam laughed at the childish behavior, but then the entrance door opened.
"Careful" they heard Dean's worried voice, as the newcomers came closer to the living room. As the pair stepped into the room, Kyle's mouth fell open from shock.
"Surprise!" Sam and Harry shouted at the same time. Kyle's eyes took in the balloons, but they filled with tears by the banner:
"WELCOME HOME, KYLE!"
"I'm so glad that you're finally here" Harry stepped to the boy and gently hugged him. Kyle hugged him back as tightly as he could in his still weakened state then separating he looked at Sam. Seeing the scared glint in the sky-blue eyes, Sam walked to the boy and pulled him into a gentle but firm hug.
"Welcome home" he whispered then he felt Kyle's tears dripping down his neck. He tightened his hold on the skinny boy then let him go. After him Bobby stepped forward and – to everyone's biggest surprise – he embraced Kyle, as well.
"Hope you don't mind sharing with Dean" the older man murmured, causing Sam and Harry to laugh. Dean blushed ten shades of red, while Kyle just pulled away with a bright smile and shook his head. With that they settled in the kitchen.
"I made some meat soup" Harry said as he placed the bowl of steaming soup onto the table. Dean licked his lips impatiently, wanting to finally eat Harry's cooking. "And I made some salad, too, just to be sure" Harry added. Everyone laughed at Dean's grimace.
"Can I have a glass of orange juice, please?" Kyle asked quietly. Harry got him the drink with a smile and Kyle took his medicine. As Harry stepped to his chair, Sam jumped to his feet. Bobby and Dean just rolled their eyes, Kyle chuckled softly and the pair blushed from head to toe. Finally Harry sat down and Sam followed his lead.
As expected, Dean was the first, who got the first bite, and he moaned from pleasure. Bobby swiftly put the man in order, murmuring something like "drama queen" under his nose. Kyle got a little soup in his spoon and carefully sipped at it. Harry watched the boy's reaction: he knew exactly what's going to happen next.
He was right: Kyle shakily put his spoon down and swallowing the sip he lifted his hand in front of his mouth. Harry instantly embraced the boy sitting next to him, who broke down into heart-wrenching sobs. A couple minutes later Kyle pulled away, wiping his face.
"'M sorry" he sniffed. "It's just… This is the first real food I had for years."
The dinner went on without any incidence and in a happier mood. Kyle noticed the small but valuable moments between Sam and Harry, but he caught the sneaky glances from Dean, who watched the pair's love sadly. Kyle then decided that he won't let the older Winchester to be depressed.
In the middle of the night Dean was startled out of his sleep by soft, scared whimpers. Kyle was writhing on the other bed, stuck in a nightmare. Dean immediately jumped up and hurried to the boy's help. However, as he touched the other's shoulder, Kyle screamed and leaped out of his bed. He stormed out of the bedroom stumbling slightly, Dean hot on his heel, straight to the bathroom. The pounding of their feet echoed between the walls of the hallway, vibrating the wooden floor.
Dean rushed into the bathroom, where he found Kyle huddled into a corner. The man kneeled before him and laid a hand on the trembling shoulder, but the boy swatted it away in terror and tried to push himself into the wall.
"No…" he whimpered. With a sudden idea Dean yanked the boy out of the corner, but Kyle began struggling wildly.
"Kyle! Wake up! You're dreaming!" Dean attempted to snap the boy out of it and got a better hold on him.
"NO!" Kyle screamed. "GET THEM OFF OF ME! GET OFF OF ME! STOP!"
At that moment Dean understood what's happening; he pulled the distressed boy into a tight embrace. Soon Kyle calmed down some and fisted the man's T-shirt. Dean soothingly caressed the boy's back, who started sobbing harshly and with full force.
"Dean" the man heard Sam's voice from the doorway then his brother knelt down next to them. "What happened?"
"Nightmare" Dean replied curtly.
"R-R-Ra-a-ats…" Kyle gasped out with huge effort. Sam sat down onto the floor and folded his legs under him, while he began tenderly stroking the messy locks.
"It's okay" he whispered to the shaking boy. "It's over now. You're safe…"
"C-Cockr-roach" Kyle whimpered much calmer. The brothers comforted him until Kyle's breathing regulated to a much more normal rhythm. From time to time that rhythm hitched as the terror left the boy and Dean then lifted him into his arms and returned to their room with him. Sam followed the pair and covered them with a blanket then left the room soundlessly. The rest of the night went on quietly and peacefully.
Sunlight filtered in through the window, lighting up the pair in the bed. Kyle was lying on his back and Dean was on top of him, protecting the boy from the outside world. Kyle's arm rested on the man's waist, while Dean's hand was lying on the boy's chest and his head on the serenely beating heart. The golden beam landed on the man's eyelids, who began shifting, then opening his eyes he squinted from it. He glanced groggily at the person under him then tenderly caressed the peaceful face. Kyle moved and slowly looked up.
"Morning" Dean whispered with a sleepy smile.
"Morning" Kyle smiled, too.
"Are you okay?" the man turned serious. Kyle nodded and sent a grateful look to him. In reply Dean kissed the boy's cheek, but when he wanted to pull away, Kyle touched his lips to Dean's almost unnoticeably. They looked into each other's eyes for a long while, sky and grass…
A knock broke the thin thread between the two pairs of irises. Sam was peeking in through the door, watching Kyle with concern clearly evident in his eyes. The boy carefully pulled away from Dean's embrace and walked to the young man.
"Thank you" he whispered and Sam hugged him relieved.
The rest of the day passed rather uneventfully: Dean was helping Bobby in the garage, Sam and Harry spent their time together and Kyle was trying to compose himself in his bed. His heart was beating so rapidly like never before. Not that long ago he was getting ready for the beating to die down, but now it was thrumming so strong that he was afraid his heart would jump out of his chest. However, this wasn't caused by the nightmare, but that little moment that occurred involuntarily between Dean and him. He felt the blood heat his face up and that's saying something.
In the afternoon Harry took Kyle to the mall with Sam and Dean accompanying them. The shop called Fashion Sense was still open, but the customers were already leaving. Walking in they caught the long mahogany-red hair that fell freely, framing the cyclamen long-sleeved, mini-skirted dress that ended in a pair of thigh-length, black boots. On the slim waist was a white belt, its buckle glinting in black.
"Hello, Honey" Harry greeted the girl, who snapped her head up at his voice. Her jaw landed on the floor as she saw the boy.
"Oh my God!" she cried out and ran to Harry, who caught her. "You look fabulous, Jade!"
"Call me Harry!" the boy said pulling away.
"It's a pity for that beautiful hair, though" Honey complained, but she smiled. "Simple and elegant; that's your style if you want to be a boy!"
Sam and Dean laughed at that and Honey jumped into their arms with a happy scream. The brothers hugged her at the same time.
"So, tell me!" Honey spoke cheerfully. "What's up with you, guys?"
Harry then stepped to Sam, who leaned down and kissed him.
"Aww" Honey gushed. "You're so cute together!"
"And we would like to introduce you to someone" Dean spoke up and wrapped an arm around the boy's shoulder next to him. "This is Kyle Wells. Kyle" he turned to the blushing boy, "this is Honey Williams."
"Call her Honey!" Harry warned quickly. Kyle held his hand out.
"Nice to meet you, Honey" he murmured shyly. Honey instantly jumped into his arms, although she did it carefully, seeing the paleness of the poor boy. Kyle's blush reappeared at that but he wrapped his arms around the girl. Separating, Honey giggled at the boy's red face. Then she noticed Dean's tender smile that was directed towards Kyle. She instantly knew that a new love was forming in the little group.
"Boys" Harry turned to the brothers, "don't you have something to do?"
"Erm…" Sam answered – or tried to – the question.
"Of course" Dean jumped to his brother's help. "We're going" with that he began pulling Sam out of the shop. The young man gave a quick kiss to Harry's lips, before he was dragged away. "Behave, you three!" Dean shouted back, causing the others to laugh.
"So" Honey started, "what can I help you?"
"Well" Harry laid his arm around Kyle's shoulder, "I was hoping that you could give us a helping hand."
"Ooooh" the girl understood. "So, we're gonna spruce this beauty up?" Kyle blushed at that.
"It's really not necessary…" he wanted to protest, but the other two didn't let him.
"Oh, hush" Honey waved at him then she linked her arm with Kyle's. "We're gonna have so much fun!" she cheered and carefully pulled the surprised boy with her. Harry followed them shaking his head, knowing very well what waits for the other boy.
Meanwhile, Sam followed his brother, who was pushing through the crowd with determination towards his mysterious destination.
"Would you tell me already where are we going?" Sam asked at last, getting fed up with this. Dean looked back at him like he was seeing him the first time.
"Oh" the man blushed slightly, causing Sam's eyebrows to lift up from shock. "I'm sorry, I thought…"
"What?" Sam grinned. "That I'm gonna go on my own way so you can secretly conspire something?" Dean shrugged, because he himself didn't know how he wanted to finish his sentence. "You know what?" Sam continued, seeing his brother's uncertainty. "Why don't we look at the program at the cinema?"
Dean's eyes lighted up in relief and they made their way to the cinema. Soon they were browsing the movie posters. They haven't found anything interesting yet, although their favorite film type was completely different. While Sam wanted to choose a nice romantic film – getting a death glare from Dean with a mumbled 'chick' -, Dean wanted an action movie or a horror. There had even been a quieter argument, where their reasons were based on a date with Harry and Kyle, from where they got to the conditions of the perfect date.
Suddenly Sam's eyes landed on one movie poster. Stepping closer he inspected the picture, while his brother followed him.
"Finally!" Sam grinned widely. "I was waiting for the movie on this for a long time!"
"When is it played?" Dean asked. His brother quickly looked up the time.
"Tomorrow, 8 P.M."
"Alright" Dean nodded. "I'll get the tickets."
"What?" Sam turned to him confused. "Why?"
"I was thinking of bringing Kyle on a date."
"How do you know he even likes it?"
"I was talking with him, you know" Dean rolled his eyes at his brothers dumbfounded expression. "He said he loved the book. So I'm sure he's gonna like it."
"Then get four!" Sam called after his brother, who was already making his way towards the cashier, but now he turned back surprised. "I'm bringing Harry, too. If you don't mind."
Dean just shrugged and continued towards the cashier, but Sam caught the small smile on the man's face.
After a long time Sam's phone finally rang: it was Honey.
"Hello?" Sam spoke. "Okay… Alright… Alright, we're going."
"What is it?" Dean asked.
"The boys are waiting for us" Sam stood up. Both of them hurried back to the shop, where two satisfied faces greeted them.
"Where's Kyle?" Dean asked Harry and Honey.
"Here" came a shy voice from next to them. Turning towards it they were hit by a shocking sight.
Kyle was standing in front of them with his hands in his pockets. He was wearing white trainers and dark jeans. The blue-white checkered shirt hid the waist of the jeans, the arms were pulled up. His locks were shortened, but they were still longer than Harry's, rounding the boy's skinny face. Dean gulped at the sight.
"You look great" Sam spoke, snapping out of his shock first. Dean couldn't even speak, so he just dazedly nodded.
"Thanks" Kyle whispered bashfully. Then a loud thud cut into the hum of the music: Dean was sitting on the floor, his cheeks blazing red. Honey giggled at that and Kyle let out a smile.
"Now I'm sure you're brothers" Harry chuckled, but catching Sam's deep blush at the memory he couldn't stop his laughing to escape. Honey landed on the floor, too, from laughing so hard, as she understood Harry's words.
