Chapter 23
I know it's been a while, but I got this review for my one shot and it was like 'this was the worst thing I've ever read.' I just got sad because I thought that was my best work so I took a break. But I'm back know!

"What?"
"They're vampire hunters. Kim was supposed to be the next generation but she didn't get her training because of me protecting her. Her parents knew I was a vampire as soon as I stepped foot in the house. When Kim left me alone for the bathroom they knocked me out and I ended up like this. I had to explain to them that I was protecting her because her blood type. They let me go after a week of pure torture. They only let me go because the ratings on Kim getting attacked got higher so they connected the dots. But Kim's brother didn't buy it. He hates me. He was the one who suggested the torturing in the first place."
"Kim has a brother?"
"Yeah, he's twenty six by now and I'm pretty sure he's the one that got us here. Kim doesn't remember him because he left to go on hunts in Arizona. He didn't come back to visit her or his family claiming he was busy. Yet, he would always visit me at least three or four times a year to threaten me. I never thought he'd go this far though."
"Kim's family is vampire hunters. How do you think they'll react when Kim introduces me as her boyfriend?"
April snickered lightly. "That's on you man."
Jack snickered too. Suddenly they heard I door open then someone walking do the steps.
"That's him." April messaged Jack.
Jack nodded. Footsteps got closer and until they stopped beside Jack. Jack looked up to see light brown eye and short blonde hair. He had stubble on his face and a tall, muscular figure.
"Hello, blood sucker."
Jack and April hissed.
"Our species' name is in your job title! The least you could do is calls us by what we are!" April shouted.
Jack held back his laughter.
"What do you want?" Jack asked.
"To teach ya'll a lesson. April you've been protecting Kim for years! What made you slip up?! You used to kill any vampire on the spot!" He shouted at April.
"I haven't slipped up!" April shouted right back.
"Well, that's not what the supernatural wanted column says."
He pulls out a page from a newspaper cover.
It said: Rebel replaced with lover boy after getting knocked out.
There were pictures of April laying down on the ground with the branch on her and beside that picture was Jack in fighting stance with Kim hiding behind him.
April and Jack winced.
"Well…um I did slip up once or twice…but that was because of him." April pointed at Jack.
Jack gasped. "Nu uh!"
"Yeah huh!" April said back.
"Nu uh!"
"Yeah huh!"
"Nu uh!"
"Yeah huuuh!"
"Shut up!" Mark shouted.
"Mark it was a mistake! I was stressed out, give me a break!" April shouted.
"This happened more than once."
Mark went over to a counter and opened a drawer. He came back and held out three more articles.
One said: Rebel close to drowning with human friends, mysterious boy and blood girl come to the recuse
There was a picture on Carson negotiating with Kim while the others are in the background.
Second one said: Rebel Lets Vamps Kidnap Blood Girl.
There was a picture of Kim walking back to her cabin but was followed by Carrie and Ashley.
Third one said: Mysterious Boy Attacks Rebel twice In a Row!
There were two pictures of Jack fighting April.
"Those just don't help us at all." Jack said.
"No, not at all." April said.
"You only had one job April, protecting Kim and you failed." Mark said.
"No, Jack's been protecting her lately and I tried my best to fight even though I was under great stress. I didn't completely fail and you know I have years to redeem myself, so let's just skip the torture part go right to setting us free." April explained.
"Nope, that's not going to happen. You let lover boy get too close and that messed you up from the beginning of the summer. Now it's time to teach you both a lesson." Mark glared at Jack.
"My name is Jack."
"Ok, Jack, you're first."
Mark walked over to the wall and grabbed a hammer and a couple of nails. He smirked evilly as walked closer to Jack. When April saw the hammer she immediately closed her eyes, not wanting to see what's next.
"You might feel a like pinch." Mark said holding nail on Jack's finger and drawing back the hammer.
Jack tried to get his finger away but there was no use. Slam!
"Jack how long have we been down here?" April asked.
They were in a different position now. They were both chained to the wall. Mark had given them collars and whenever they tried to fight he'd shock they on voice command. Mark let them take a bath, but one wrist had to be chained to the tub. For outfits Jack got white t shirts and sweatpants and April got large t shirts that fell to her knee with unseen shorts. For food, Mark fed them blood bags.
"I don't know. A couple of weeks, maybe."
During those couple of week there was only one thing on their minds. Kim.
"How do you like she's holding up?" April asked.
"Mark should be protecting her. He obviously knows what he's doing…she's fine. She probably misses us that's all." Jack said quietly.
"Yeah, she fine. She's perfectly fine."
"Why is he doing this?" Jack asked.
"He's giving us a lesson for slipping up." April responded like a robot. Mark had said it so many times it automatically came up as an answer.
"Torturing us is teaching us a lesson?"
"In his book it is. Don't worry. He'll let us free in a couple of days and leave like nothing ever happened."
"How do you know? What if one day he decides to kill us?!" Jack shouted.
"I don't know Jack! But shouting at me wouldn't help! I'm in the same position as you."
Suddenly the door opened. Mark walked up to them. April and Jack glared.
"You're free to go." Mark said.
The cuffs holding them to the wall unlinked and they fell to their knees. Jack and April got up and were ready to charge at him.
"One word and the collar will shock you both…to death. Do you really want to get knocked out and find yourselves buried alive when you wake up?"
April and Jack stilled. "What makes you think we wouldn't come back for you?" Jack asked glaring.
"I have tricks up my sleeves. The sleepy spell would be the perfect example."
"Come on let's go." April tugged on Jack's arm.
"Have you been protecting Kim?" Jack asked ignoring April.
"Of course, what type of brother would I be if I didn't protect her?"
"A lunatic." April muttered.
"What was that?" Mark looked over to April.
"Pfft, nothing. Come on Jack." April said quickly.
April grabbed Jack and sped off. As she ran she followed Kim's scent. But there was something off.
"There's a vampire with her." April thought.
She ran faster and stopped at the scene in a couple of second with Jack by her side. Their eyes widen.
Kim was wore an utility belt with two stakes on the sides. She also had a bow and arrows on her back. She wore all black with her hair cut to her shoulders in a loose side braid. She held a handgun up to a vampire who had her hands up. Without any hesitation Kim shot the vampire through the heart. The gun shot a medium sized wooden stake. The vampire turned to ashes. That's when Jack and April's mouths drop.
April closed her mouth. "You just saw that right?"
Jack nodded with his mouth still opened. "Jack snap out of it!" April shouted.
Jack closed his mouth. "That's the uniform for vampire hunters." Jack stated the obvious.
"Who's there?!" Kim shouted looking around.
Jack and April walked out of the bushes and stepped up to Kim.
"Hey Kim." Jack said smiling.
"Did you miss us?" April asked holding her arms up for a hug and so did Jack.
Kim looked at them up and down confused.
"And you are…?"
April and Jack's smiles turned into frowns.
"April your protector since birth." April said pointing at herself.
"And Jack your boyfriend." Jack said pointing himself.
Kim looked at them with disgust. "I don't need protecting. I'm a trained vampire hunter. My brother told me vampires like you would come along and try to trick me. You just want me blood because it's rare. Oh and my boyfriend is Brett!" Kim glared at them grabbing a stake.
"Who the f*ck is Brett?!" Jack thought angry.
"Wait, how do you know your brother?" April questioned.
"What do mean? He's my brother and he was my protector, not you!" Kim spat out.
"He took my title as Kim's protector and made her forget about us."
"That's not true! He hasn't been in your life at all! He left you and your family for hunts when you were five!" April shouted, ignoring the fact that Kim had a stake in her hand.
"How dare you say such a thing?! I don't even know you and you don't know me or him! He's protected me since I was born but at ten I started protecting myself! I'm going to give you a chance to leave right now before I kill you!" Kim shouted at her.
"Kim you don't know him! He's evil, he tortured us for weeks!" Jack shouted.
"Shut up pretty boy!" Kim shouted at him.
"Kim, you have to believe us. Come on don't you remember Milton and Jerry at least?" April asked.
"How do you know their names?" Kim asked confused. "Have you both been stalking me?"
"No. Jerry and Milton are our friends." Jack said.
"They're friends with blood suckers? That's hard to believe."
"Again with that blood sucker thing! Our name is in your job title!" April shouted.
"Oh shut up." Kim said.
She finally kicked. April dodged it.
"Kim I don't want to fight. I just-" April got punched mid sentence.
She actually fell to the ground. She clutched onto her bleeding nose and got up.
"Too bad."
Kim put the stake back and pulled out the gun she used before and pointed at April. She pulled the trigger but Jack put up a force field around them on time.
"We both don't want to fight her. Let's leave and come back later. Possibly go and see want Jerry and Milton are up to." Jack messaged.
April sighed and looked over to Kim. Kim was glared at them through the force field. She had her gun up ready to shoot. April looked back at Jack and nodded. Jack grabbed her wrist and started running with the force field still surrounding them. They heard the banging of the wooden stakes hitting the force field behind them as they left.
"When I get my hands on Mark…" April thought as her eyes turned red.
"When I get my hands on Brett…" Jack thought as his eyes turned red.
