Chapter 16
This is followed on from my last update
A couple of hours passed when suddenly Rachel heard the phone ringing so went straight to answer it, she found out it was Lily's school, apparently Lily had been in trouble but seemed really upset about it now so they thought it was best to go home.
Rachel sighed this really wasn't what they needed today, she didn't really know how she was going to deal with lily either as if wasn't as if she could really blame her for acting up a bit when everything had been as horrible as it had been at home, but at the same time she knew she'd have to punish her a bit for it.
"Amy" Rachel called.
When she didn't get a response she figured Amy would probably be in the spare room with her headphones in or something so she went upstairs.
She knocked on her room and Amy called her in
When she went in she saw Rebecca crying on Amy's lap and Amy trying to comfort her but she could tell she was very upset too
"Oh dear we'll have to stop those tears won't we?" She said going over and picking the little girl up off Amy's lap and giving her a big hug
"I'm scared " Rebecca cried
"I know you are love" Rachel sighed "but you don't have to be scared of me do you"
Rebecca shook her head
"Good, now I've got to go and pick Lily up from her school, so I'll take Rebecca with me and you can have a bit of space Amy"
Although Rachel knew having Rebecca with her when she obviously needed to have a talk with lily probably wasn't the best of idea there wasn't really a lot else she could do at the moment because she could tell Amy wanted a bit of time to herself, which was understandable given everything that had gone on
"Thanks Rachel"
"Are you going to come with me Rebecca?"
Rebecca nodded so Rachel lifted her out to the car and got her fastened in her seat properly
"I'm thirsty" Rebecca said when they were about half way there
"Ah sorry I don't think we have any drinks in here, I'll get you a glass of milk as soon as we get home though"
"I need a wee"
"I thought you were still in nappies?" Rachel said as she knew her mum hadn't bothered potty training her yet
"I still know when I need to go"
"Well it's a while before we get home yet I'm afraid, you'll have to just go in your nappy"
They finished up getting stuck in traffic so it took a while before they got to the school
"Why are we picking lily up"
Rachel sighed not really wanting to explain this "she's poorly"
"Will she play with me when we're back"
"I don't think so darling, not if she's poorly I'm sure Amy will play with you for a bit though"
Rachel then got Rebecca out and took her little hand so they could walk into school
She knew she had to go to see lily in her heads office, but she didn't really want to go in with Rebecca
Luckily the school secretary offered to keep an eye on her when she went in
"I'll be back soon love, just wait there and be a good girl"
Rachel then went through to the office and knocked on the door
As soon as she went in she saw lily sat there crying, part of her wanted to rush over straight away and give her a big hug but if she had done something seriously wrong she didn't want her to think she could just get away with it.
"Thanks for coming, poor Lily's got herself very worked up, she made herself sick from crying so much just a few minutes ago"
"Oh lily" Rachel said "I'm sure it wasn't so bad you had to get yourself that upset about it sweetheart"
"Are you angry?" Lily said sounding terrified
"I don't even know what's happened yet do I?"
Rachel put lily on her knee and let her cuddle into her
"Look I'm sorry about this, but Lily's had a lot going on I'm sure she didn't mean to cause trouble"
"To be honest she wasn't even in that much trouble it was more the fact she got so upset after we'd told her off especially when she knew we were calling you"
This upset Rachel a bit as she didn't like to think that lily was scared of her in anyway
"Lily why were you so scared of me being called love?"
"I can't say"
Rachel looked a bit confused but decided to leave it
"What was she in trouble for"
"Nothing serious really, she's just not seemed her usual self over the last few days, she's been distracted, not listening properly, it was more the fact she answered back to her teacher but it really wasn't anything too bad we just had a quick word with her about it that's all, but we honestly never imagined her getting this upset over it"
Rachel sighed knowing she'd have to explain things that were going on at home as obviously this was going to effect her at school to
"Look maybe I was wrong sending lily to school today, we've ... Well me and my husband have been having a lot of arguments and to be honest I don't think Lily's handling it too well, but I'll make sure her and I have a little chat about it all when we get in, I think she's been getting a bit worked up about it all"
"Okay well take her home for now" she said
Lily and Rachel both got up and started walking out
"And lily" mrs smith called
Lily tuned round to look at her
"Don't go worrying yourself about being in trouble or anything we're all here to help"
"Thank you" lily mumbled
"Come on love, let's go home"
Lily followed Rachel out and as soon as they left she got all teary again
"Are you going to shout?"
"Nope, come on lily let's get your face cleaned up a bit, Rebecca's in reception"
"She'll know I've been crying"
"Well she's only little, I doubt she'll look too far into it, I've just told her you're poorly"
Rachel took lily into the toilets and started mopping her face up a bit
"There we are" she said
Lily started crying some more though
"Please can I have a cuddle" lily sobbed
"Oh love that's one thing you can always have, come here" she said wrapping her arms tightly around her "there now don't you worry about anything it's going to all be okay" she soothed
When lily still hadn't calmed down she put the lid down on the toilet seat and put her on her knee, hoping no one would come in and see them
"Lily why didn't you want them to ring me so badly?"
"I was scared you'd tell joe, and then he'd get angry at me like he is at you"
Rachel sighed seeing lily as bad as this made her realise that it was time her and joe had some time apart as she wasn't going to continue letting the kids suffer
"Love the last thing me and joe want to do is make you scared" Rachel sighed "joe might be angry with me but he's not at you love"
"But I don't like him being angry with you either"
Rachel thought for a minute before saying "darling of you think you'd be happier if maybe me and joe didn't live together for a bit, so there wouldn't be anymore fighting"
Lily didn't know what to say at first but then she thought about how unhappy and scared she'd been over the last few days and gave a small nod if the head
"Right we'll sort it then okay"
"Okay" lily said before giving Rachel another big cuddle
They stayed cuddled up for a few minutes before going out into reception
They picked Rebecca up and started walking out
"You left me" Rebecca said
"I know but it wasn't for long was it Rebecca"
"No but didn't like it"
"Well I'm sorry love, but it couldn't really be helped"
The three of them then walked back to the car and Rachel got them both strapped in
When they were on the way back Rebecca found a bottle of orange juice In the car and she was very thirsty so she opened it
Rachel saw her out of her window and knew she'd spill it everywhere
"Rebecca out that back I'll get you a drink back at home"
"No" Rebecca said she was getting tired now and this always made her a bit grouchy
"You'll spill it all over my car put it back"
"No"
"If you don't put it back you'll be going to your room when you get in"
Rebecca then tipped it everywhere on purpose
"Rebecca what did you do that for" she shouted exasperated
As soon as they got in Rachel took Rebecca up to the little spare room and closed the door, when she was on her way down she noticed there was a note on the side from Amy saying that she'd gone out
Rachel couldn't help but feel a but annoyed at Amy for this as she didn't really want her going out without her asking, especially on a day where she should really be in school but it wasn't as if there was a lot she could do about it now
"Lily are you going to have a play for a little bit while I clean the car out"
"Okay"
"Honestly what are toddlers like huh, I'm not looking forward to when mines that age" she sighed
It was true although she loved Rebecca a lot she could be a real handful at times and could cause a lot of trouble
As soon as she'd got all the orange juice off her car she went in and up to the spare room again
"Rebecca you can come out now" she called
When Rebecca didn't come out she went in and found her crying
Rachel sighed before going and sitting on her bed
"Honestly Rebecca what are you like"
"I'm sorry"
"You can't just go around making a mess everywhere because then someone's got to clean it up
"I'm sorry" she said again
"Well there's no harm done I guess, just don't do it again"
"Mummy will shout"
"Well mummy doesn't know does she" Rachel said
"You will tell"
"No I won't love, I don't really want to get you in trouble do I, I don't really want to shout either but I don't really have a choice if you do something silly" Rachel said
"Anyway come on we'll have to get you a change of clothes because you've got orange juice all over yourself"
"Don't have any other clothes"
"Well we'll have to get you some more of Lily's" Rachel said "are you going to have your nap now"
Rebecca nodded as she did feel quite tired
Rachel got her changed and into some more pyjamas
"There all nice and fresh"
"I'm not tired now" Rebecca said as she'd seen lily playing and wanted to do the same
"I think you are darling, come on get in your bed, just have a sleep for an hour then you can play" Rachel said knowing if she didn't put Rebecca down for her nap she'd be really irritable all afternoon which wasn't what she needed at the moment
After a little bit of arguing Rebecca went into bed
"When am I seeing mummy again"
"Shh sweetheart, just concentrate on going to sleep" Rachel whispered
"Mummy doesn't like me anymore" Rebecca mumbled
Rachel didn't know what to say to this so she just stroked her cheek gently and eventually Rebecca nodded off to sleep
Rachel crept out the room and closed the door praying it wouldn't wake her up
She then went downstairs and watched some tv with lily for a bit
Lily still seemed quite quiet and a bit shaken up however a lot better than she had done at school
When they were a while through the film lily started to feel a bit upset again so cuddled up to Rachel
"Will I still see joe when he moves out"
"Of course you will darling"
"Rachel when the baby's born where will it sleep?"
"Well in my room for a little bit, then it will get it's own room"
"But there isn't anymore spare rooms now that Amy and Rebecca are here too"
"Well I know but there probably not going to be staying here forever and anyway if need be we'll have to turn my study into a room won't we"
"But then where will you work"
"I've got my downstairs room too haven't i"
"You're not going to turn the playroom into a bedroom are you" lily asked
She always did like relaxing in the playroom after school so she really hoped it wasn't going to get changed
"No love I promise, anyway stop worrying it's still ages till the baby comes"
"How many more sleeps will it be"
Rachel laughed at this, she thought it was cute though how excited lily seemed to be about the baby
"Lots and lots more sleeps sweetie"
"Can I feel your bump again?"
Rachel nodded before lifting her top up so lily could feel properly
"It's quite a big bump"
"I know and it will get lots bigger than this"
"After the baby's come out your tummy does the bump go straight away" lily asked
"Well no.. It takes a while for your tummy to look normal again"
"Can I give it bottles when it comes?"
"Well you'll be able to after a little while yeah but not at first"
"Why"
"Well because I'm not going to give it bottles at first"
"How will it be fed then"
Rachel sighed lily always was full of questions, that sometimes she really didn't know how to answer
"Well I'll breast feed it"
"What's that"
"It's where the baby gets milk from my boobs"
Lily laughed at this
"Eww that's horrible, why would the baby want to have milk from there"
"Well I don't think they'll be that bothered where the milk will come from darling is it's hungry, and anyway it's not horrible at all it's very natural and it's good for the baby"
"But then what if she gets hungry when I'm there, you'll have to do it in front of me"
"Well it's nothing rude or embarrassing love"
Lily giggled at this some more before turning her attention back to the tv
When the film had ended Rachel realised Rebecca had been asleep for ages so went upstairs thinking she should probably wake her or she'd have trouble getting her to sleep tonight
She stirred her awake gently and eventually she opened her brown eyes
"Hey sleepyhead, you've been asleep ages" she said
Rebecca gave a big yawn before sitting up
She clambered on Rachel's knee and cuddled into her
"Do you feel better after you're little nap"
Rebecca nodded her head before putting her thumb in her mouth
After Rebecca had woken up a bit the two of them went downstairs
A couple of minutes later Amy came back in
"Ah there you are, you can't just wander off like that you know" Rachel said
"I left a note didn't i" Amy snapped
"Well I'm afraid that just isn't good enough especially when you didn't say where you were going"
"Oh just leave me alone auntie Rachel" any shouted before running upstairs
Rachel rolled her eyes and sighed realising something had obviously happened while Amy was out but she decided to let her cool off for a bit before asking her about it
A few minutes later Rachel went up and knocked on Amy's door
"What"
"Can I come in?"
She didn't get a response so took this as a yes and went in"
When she saw Amy curled up on her bed she sighed and went and sat down next to her
"What's happened love?"
"Nothing"
"Well something obviously has, come on talk to me"
"Toms dumped me auntie Rachel, I thought he loved me" Amy cried
She collapsed into her aunties chest and started crying all over again
"Oh darling" she sighed "shhh it's okay"
"He tried to make me have sex with him but I wouldn't so he called me...he said I was a frigid cow"
"Did he now" Rachel said "well you know what love he doesn't deserve you, if that's the only thing he's interested in then he really isn't worth it"
"But I really liked him, maybe I should have just done it with him"
"No Amy and don't ever let me hear you talk like that" Rachel said quite sternly "do you have any idea how young you still are, still young to be even thinking about sex really"
"Okay I didn't ask for a lecture"
"And I'm not giving you one, it's just you've got so many years for that sort of thing, don't just have sex with someone for the sake of it wait till you know he really is the one"
"I know you're right really"
"That's because I'm always right" Rachel said laughing
Amy gave her aunt another big hug before getting up
"Come on give me a nice big smile"
"I'm not Rebecca's age" Amy said
But she out a smile on her face Anyway
Rachel soon realised it was time she got Rosie from school as it was getting quite late
"Rebecca, lily in the car please" she called
As was always the case with small children getting them in the car was easier said than done however eventually they all got in
They waited a while for Rosie to come out but eventually she did and got in the car
"Hey how was your day?" Rachel asked
"Okay"
Rosie stayed quiet most of the way home just staring out the window
Rachel started to feel tense when she pulled up and saw joes car on the drive but she knew she needed to face this now
"Girls when we get in will you go up to the playroom for a bit for me"
The girls agreed to do this so went upstairs as soon as they got in
Rachel took a deep breathe before going through to the kitchen
Joe looked up when he saw her come In, he too was looking pretty nervous
"Joe I think we need to have a talk" she said
"So do I"
The two of them sat down at the table
"Let's not pretend things are working joe"
"I know, I know I've been awful I thought I was ready for a family It turns out I'm not, I know I've been so horrid to you all,if you want I'll never see the girls again"
"Is that what you want?"
"No but I can understand you not trusting me around them after everything I've out you through"
"I know how much you love those girls joe, and when the baby comes I want you as involved as you possibly can be"
"I will be I promise, look I know we can't work this out me and you that is, but I want to support you more than anything in the world"
"Good" Rachel said smiling slightly
"Let's not leave it on bad terms, I want to still be friends"
"We've had 10 amazing years together joe, I'm not going to forget that, just turns out we want different things" she said
The two of them spent another Half an hour talking everything through before joe started packing his things
"Rachel" rosie shouted as she ran downstairs "Rachel where's joe going"
"Sit down sweetheart"
Tears started to fill Rosie's eyes as they sat down
"The thing is me and you we've decided... Decided it's for the best if we split up"
Hearing this made Rosie burst into tears as she didn't really expect it to happen so suddenly
For the rest of the evening Rosie remained practically silent only speaking when she was practically forced to and by the end of the day Rachel was starting to get a bit worried as Rosie wasn't opening up to her at all.
