My name is Hannah Savoy, I don't think I've told you that. I'm your typical blonde girly girl teenager. I don't do my homework on time and I talk back to my parents, nothing unusual. I'm that plane Jane that no one ever remembers when they look back in their yearbooks but they remember seeing my face every once in a while. I may be remarked as beautiful sometimes, by some, but that is just speculation.
"Welcome to Happy Knacks!" Oh yeah, and I'm stuck working at a restaurant to help pay for my car insurance. I never see a single penny of my paychecks either. "Right this way, please!" I know you can't see my face, but I'm cringing through my awkward smile. I guess you could say my entire story starts and ends at Happy Knacks, a small restaurant chain on the East Coast. However, I'm only scheduled until eight and it's seven fifty-three already.
Tossing my apron on the couch nearest the front door I sighed, dragging myself to grab the remote and turn on my television. Scouting through my Netflix I saw no new titles that interested me. I flipped to my most recently watched shows and picked one.
I guess I had a little bit of an edge compared to other people when it came to knowing all about specific television shows. When I'm not at work I'm sitting in front of the TV, watching Netflix, or reading online fan fiction pieces. There are some really good ones out there about all different things.
"Hurry up, Doofus!" I smiled as Gwen Tennyson screamed at her cousin Ben Tennyson. It was one of my favorite American television shows to watch, Ben 10. When I wasn't shoving my head at the television watching the latest anime, not even in English dub, I was watching one of three shows: Code Lyoko, Power Rangers, or Ben 10. I guess there's always been something about watching teenagers beat up monsters in ridiculous odds that entertains me. Then there's the time and space aspect to Ben 10 that I absolutely love. I grabbed my laptop and pushed the power button.
I pushed open the door to Happy Knacks, forcing another fake smile on my already nearly tearful face. One more shift that I won't see any money for, great. This is where my cliche story begins, for those of you wondering where the real action is. Today my shift starts at seven and my world changed at 11:49 when my entire perception of existence changed forever. Well, I'll get on with the story then.
"Hey, table for three I guess." A raven haired boy sighed. His face was pale with dark circles starting to form under his eyes. His lips curled downward into a noticeable frown as two others appeared through the doors. As they walked up to the hostess stand, the girl's eyes widened at what was before her.
'I don't understand. What is this? Am I dreaming, did I fall asleep in the breakroom?'
"Ben, please we've got to get something to eat." The girl pulled at the other boy's jacket. It was a light cream, nearly white color, with neon green accents. A large number ten appeared on the left side of his chest. 'Ben, Ben Tennyson?'
He seemed to growl at the girl's tugging. He swatted her hands away with a small pink flash of light only noticeable between the two. "Gwen, I seriously doubt that you and Kevin need to eat right now. We just ate before we left." He growled, none of them noticing the girl's reaction to them. With a deep breath she invited them to sit at a table near the front of the restaurant. Her reaction carried over for several minutes as she stood at her register. She sighed, trying to figure out what to think.
'Maybe I should ask someone if they recognize them, but I feel like they wouldn't.' She sighed to herself, rummaging through the POS system on her register to figure out what she wanted for lunch. She hesitated when she saw one of the servers pass by her and start toward their table.
"Hey Tanner, don't worry if they seem agitated." She pulled at the other girl's apron whipped around to face Hannah, her dark brown hair nearly swatting her face. "Watch where you swing that, girl!" Hannah laughed, passing her three wrapped silverware bundles. Tanner laughed to herself as Hannah pushed her forward toward Ben, Gwen, and Kevin. 'I really hope that she doesn't piss Kevin off. What am I even talking about? It's like I actually believe that they're really from the television show.'
At the hostess stand she played with the menus to pass the time. The afternoon shift had to be the most boring of them all, she thought. Breakfast was always busy, the busiest shift, and then there was dinner shift which was normally crazier than the ocean when its waves came in, filling the entire restaurant in minutes. 'I wonder what those three are doing.' She couldn't help thinking about it. 'Maybe they're all just really extreme cosplayers.' She laughed to herself thinking of all of the old comic conventions that were held uptown. 'But there aren't any in town that I know of. I just need to stop thinking about it.' She hummed to herself.
"Savoy!" She heard her manager say her name in the background. She turned quickly to see him point to the register and then to the POS system that the servers used to ring in orders. "When you're finished you can go, it's been too slow today." He left his card near the computer-like device for her to use when she was finished. At her register she saw Ben, Gwen, and Kevin. 'Great, I get to look like a weirdo because I'll probably be looking at them weirdly.' She walked over and behind the counter to her register.
"How was lunch today?"
"It was great! Did you see those burgers?!" Ben was the first to talk of the three. Gwen nodded her head and remarked about her salad while Kevin just nodded and smiled. 'Maybe I should try the burgers here more, Ben seems to like them. Stop it! He's not the same Ben I'm thinking of.' She smiled and told them the amount of their lunch. Kevin was about to hand over his credit card to her when suddenly someone's hand appeared over it.
'I'm starting to really hate today.'
"Now I don't suppose your funds work across dimensions."
"Professeur, what're the odds of seeing you here?" Ben awkwardly removed his hand from Kevin's card. Gwen and Kevin nearly screamed at the sight of him, but Hannah couldn't help but stifle a laugh. "I'll be taking care of the tab today though, I'm afraid." He passed Hannah a more familiar looking card. He then noticed her smile and her lack of composure. "Are you alright there, miss?" He gave a knowing smile and turned back to the other three.
Hannah burst out laughing, not being able to form any actual words for a couple moments. "I spent this entire time tricking myself into believing that you were just a couple of teenagers in costumes!" She tried to catch her breath but the laughing was too hard. Ben turned to Paradox.
"Now Benjamin, this is Miss. Savoy. She is the one I wanted you to meet in this universe." Hannah paused at the mention of her name. 'Ok, this is getting too weird.' She pinched the skin on her forearm slightly so that no one could see. 'I've got to be dreaming.' And in an instant Paradox had disappeared once again, leaving her eyes to wander in the empty space.
The other three remained speechless as Kevin placed his card back in his wallet. Gwen sighed and decided to be the first to make some sort of guess as to what was going on. "We can come back later to talk, what time do you get off?" She smiled slightly.
"I'm actually supposed to be off right now." Hannah walked over to the POS system. Ben eyed Kevin before looking back to Gwen.
"Are you sure we should trust her?"
"Paradox said we should though." Ben harshly whispered.
"You know, you're all horrible at whispering. There we go, I'm all clocked out." She smiled, grabbing her coat from under the register. "And this may or may not be a fan's dream." She seethed through her teeth. She stopped for a second. "Ben, how old are you?" 'I've got to figure out where this places him in the timeline, assuming he really is Ben Tennyson. Ben Prime, too.'
Ben looked at her with a confused look before looking to Gwen and Kevin. "I'm 17, why does that matter?" They began walking toward the front door of the restaurant when Tanner waved, capturing Hannah's attention. "Oh, TannerI forgot to tell you that these three are my friends." She hoped that Tanner had never turned on a television and seen them. 'I swear, this is not the time to find out that my coworker is a closeted American-cartoon fan.' She smiled and turned away as the four walked out the front door.
"You know you've got a lot of explaining to do." Hannah smiled, grinning especially toward Ben. He hid shyly behind Gwen as they approached Kevin's car. It was different than the one's Hannah had seen, but it was still a beautiful model. "Is this new?" She smiled, running her finger across the black paint. It was jet black with a similar build to his past vehicles but the black looked to have small traces of a light blue overcast. "Does this have a taydenite crust?" She asked, looking at Kevin. He was almost at a loss for words before nodding.
Ben and Gwen nearly fell over. Suddenly Ben opened the nearest car door and as politely as he could pushed her inside. There was a couple moments of babbling between the three before they took their appropriate seats. Kevin sat in the driver's seat with Gwen in his passenger while Hannah and Ben sat in the backseat. 'So apparently these three know less about me then I do them, great. I guess they are the real thing and Paradox didn't tell them anything.'
"Are you guys going to explain, or just leave me sitting here clueless."
"I think you're the one who should explain. I'm…"
"Ben Tennyson, you saved your universe like a million and a half times yes I know. You have the omnitrix and blah. I know all about you, Gwen, and even Kevin." Ben's jaw nearly dropped into his lap. "You seriously don't know anything, do you?" Hannah sighed, grabbing her phone out of her pocket. 'It should only take a quick google search.' To her surprise she couldn't find a single shred of information on Ben or his television show. "Ok, nevermind. All I know is that here you were the stars of a cartoon television show. Didn't you notice yourselves becoming three dimensional? Then again, I guess you probably feel three dimensional in your own universe." She sighed, trying to figure out what was going on. "God, I wish Paradox was here to explain all of this." Hannah ran her hand along the inside trim of her door, touching the door handle.
'I don't know why they're being so quiet.' She turned to look at the side of Gwen's face. "How do you know Paradox?" Gwen finally chimed in. The rest remained quiet before Hannah's answer.
"I already told you, you were all on a TV show. I think I've seen every episode. There's a lot of them too!" Hannah smiled, scratching the back of her head nervously. 'If Ben is 17, then he's past the end of the final season so I have no idea what's been going on since then.' "If I didn't know what you three were about, would I have gotten in your car so willingly, would I even know what taydenite is?" 'I am getting really sick of their dirty looks.'
Ben sighed. "Ok, I'm tired of us not talking and I hate awkward situations like this so… if you know who we are and what we do, maybe that's why Paradox wants you to help us so I say let's go home." He shrugged, looking at Kevin.
"Ben, we don't know if she's evil."
"I am not evil!"
"Kevin, Ben, this is not the time to argue ok we have to get back to our own universe we really don't have enough time to argue about this. Paradox only gave us enough time to get her and we spent most of our time eating so, for once, I agree with Ben." Gwen shrugged and then turned back forward.
"How much time do we have then?" Hannah struggled to unlock her phone.
Kevin turned on the car as Ben stared at the glowing green screen of his omnitrix. "About seven seconds." Ben grinned. She nearly screamed before attempting to hit him upside the head but her swing was cut short as they were immersed in a bright green light.
