Chapter two- Athlete
The team trekked through the dense foliage as they scanned the area in search of Wo Fat. After discovering the car bomb the team had concluded that their resident criminal mastermind was without a doubt behind the whole ploy to kill Five-0. This was confirmed when Chin received a call from an unknown number but most defiantly the honeyed and low voice of Wo Fat.
"Lieutenant Kelly, I'm sure you're not surprised to hear my voice after all your cousin did discover the bomb I planted. I must say you're very lucky had she not found it you would have been blown to a pile of dust." Wo Fat drawled.
Chin waved his hands at Kono getting her to trace the call before putting it onto loud speaker for the whole team to hear.
"What do you want with us? Chin asked angrily trying to keep the voice on the phone.
"To kill you…were you not listening to my last call. Clearly though I will have to try harder."
"Why don't you just face us like a man?"
"It's more fun this way, seeing the looks on your faces." The smirk in Wo Fats voice evident.
"Will get you!" Chin snapped angrily as Kono held her thumbs up as she got up the location.
The trees and branches kept anything ahead perfectly hidden meaning it would be hard for Wo Fat to see the team coming, he bad thing was the team wouldn't see Wo Fat coming. Steve and Kono led the way with Chin and Danny bringing up the rear. They pushed the foliage leaving a parting for them to walk through, the twigs scratching their skin.
"Why on earth did this idiot choose to hide out in the bush!" Danny exclaimed dramatically.
"Shhhh!" Steve snapped as Danny apologised sarcastically.
"Sorry Steven but this isn't exactly what I expected today" Danny whined.
"Danny stop moaning I hear something" Kono whispered as she waved her hand to silence him.
The team gathered around Kono as they each strained to hear the sounds of muffled voices in the distance. There were two distinctive voices, both husky and gravely, both without doubt men however neither were Wo Fat, that Kono was sure of.
"That doesn't sound like Wo Fat" She whispered in a hushed tone.
"No do you think he's played us?" Chin asked.
"Let's find out" Kono smirked as she led the way through the trees her gun drawn calling for the men behind the voices to raise their hands.
"Get on the floor!" Steve called as the two men looked on with anger still standing with their hands on their own guns.
"Make us" The larger man grinned.
Kono pulled the trigger and shot the man in the leg making him cry out in pain and crash to the floor with a thump the other man quickly following in fear.
"Who are you?" Steve asked as Chin and Danny kicked their guns away whilst Kono kept hers on them.
"What's it to you" The skinny man asked whilst the other writhed around in pain.
Kono fired another shot right next to the man skimming his arm.
"Okay okay will talk!"
"What are your names?" Kono questioned her stance not faltering.
"Kaleo" The bigger man grunted.
"Any you?" Kono asked again as she took a step closer to the other man.
"Kinzy" He mumbled.
"What are you doing out here?" Danny asked as he wandered the surroundings freezing suddenly as a branch snapped in the distance.
"We come here to organise our drugs stash" Kaleo muttered.
"Who are you working for?" Kono asked.
The two men looked at each other almost nervously shifting slightly and tugging on their sleeves.
"No one" Kinzy answered.
The team didn't by it but the sound of twigs snapping increased before shots rang out directed at the team. Everyone split and took cover behind trees shooting into the distance in hope of catching the shooter. The two men on the ground no longer had their guns and scrambled to hide. As they rose they both got hit from the gun fire behind them, slamming into the cold hard mud presumed to be dead.
The shooter couldn't be seen through the foliage meaning the team had no idea where to shoot, the blast just kept coming until Danny and Chin realised they were out of ammo.
"I'm out!" Danny called as he and chin kept themselves behind the trees.
Steve continued to fire but also noted he was nearly out. Kono saw this from the corner of her eye a she tried to save her fire and make accurate aims. She knew they didn't stand a chance without ammo and this guy seemed to have plenty. An idea sprung to Kono's mind, a dangerous one but at least it could save the guys and give them a chance to get out.
"Steve I'm going to head him off see if you can get him!" Kono called as she began to run.
"Kono!" Chin called in the distance but Kono ignored it.
She ran like the speed of light, glad that she was an athlete. She pushed herself through the foliage accepting every hit she received from the twigs, the scraps that marred her skin from the scratchy leaves. She could hear the heavy footsteps of her company quick on her tale as well as continued shots. She kept her movements quick and sharp making sure to move about to avoid a hit. She prayed he would tire and give up but for now she had to keep running. Sweat covered her skin as she gasped to take in more air realising she had been holding her breath. Adrenaline coursed through her as she pushed herself with each step, her legs gradually becoming slow and achy as she pounded the hard ground beneath her. She presumed the guys would follow but they would be a while behind to avoid spooking the shooter and Chin and Danny were certainly not as quick on their feet as her. Kono glanced over her shoulder making out a shadow in the distance as she was chased across the expanse of the forest. It seemed he had stopped shooting but she guessed that was to avoid slowing down. She assumed he was saving his fire until he had her so he could shoot at close range. Thoughts of death began to fill Kono's mind as the idea grew closer to reality but she refused to let it cloud her mind. Her thoughts however did stop her seeing the hill that was upon her and she yelped in surprise as she tumbled down cutting her body on the uneven surface. The sounds of her chaser were closer and she used her strength to pull herself back to her feet scrambling to hide herself behind a tree stump and a cove in the hill.
Her breathing was rapid her heart pounding as Kono fought to control each breath keeping herself as quiet as possible as she waited with bated breath for the unknown man to find her…
"Did you get them?" The voice asked.
"No the girl ran and I went after her but I lost her."
"What do you mean lost her?"
"She ran down a hill and now I can't see her"
"Find her and kill her then bring her body to me"
