I apologise, the chapters appear to be getting shorter. I try to make each chapter a decent length but I feel that if I wrote more it would be unnecessary waffle for the sake of it. I hope you like.
Chapter three- Roundhouse
Kono held her breath as the footsteps grew closer, the crunch of twigs and leaves under each step sending a shiver up her spin. She clenched he fists tightly and tried to control her adrenaline. A shadow could be seen as the evening sun cast light between the cracks in the trees. She bounced lightly on the balls of her feet in preparation. The footsteps stopped as she presumed he must have stood still to scan his surroundings. After a moment the steps continued, slowly and carefully. She counted each step he took 1…2…3…4…5 and she saw him, standing in front of her, his back to her as he peered around with a squint. She had to be quick and precise. If she gave him too much time to hear her, he would no doubt turn and shoot her.
She took a breath and sprung from her position as she completed the perfect roundhouse kick successfully catching his head as her leg swung high and fast. Her action stunned him as he stumbled. Using his moment of fault Kono kicked his hand with his gun before going to punch him. The unknown man caught her movement and grabbed her wrist in a crushing hold causing Kono to tremble in pain. Not one to let injury stop her Kono used her other hand to punch him in the jaw, the crunch of bone echoing between them. The man dropped her right wrist and clasped his broken jaw in his hands. Kono kicked the man to the ground and spun him over pushing her foot into the back of his neck, his jaw pressing painfully into the mud. She grabbed cable ties from her back pocket and pulled his hands behind his back, fastening them tight.
Kono kept her weight on the man preventing him from moving. In reality he was twice her size and well-built so could probably have rolled himself over but the lack of movement in his hands and the undoubtedly searing pain spreading through his face was enough for him to stay still.
The sounds of footsteps echoed through the forest once more, this time though there were three distinctive sets accompanied by voices. Kono smiled at the comments she could hear Danny make as he was battered by branches.
"Cuz!" Chin cried as he found Kono and the man.
"Chin" Kono smiled as she let him hold her in relief whilst Steve dragged the guy up.
"There's probably a few more things I can teach you, but you've got the arse kicking thing down" Chin laughed as he picked twigs out of Kono's hair.
"Yeah I don't know how you out ran him" Danny piped up.
"Adrenaline" Kono said as she brushed it off.
"Did you break his jaw?" Steve asked curiously as he laughed at the whining man.
"Oh yeah, a roundhouse kick and carefully placed punch will do that." Kono grinned as they hauled the man in.
The man sat in interrogation his jaw a wonderful array of purples and blues and his wrists indented with teeth marks thanks to the cable ties. Steve paced the small room glaring at the man. His face creased in frustration as he tried to figure out the man's motives for shooting them.
"It's a shame about your friends…shot in cold blood." Steve commented in a steely voice.
"That's life" The man grunted.
Steve tensed his jaw and squinted.
"Who do you work for?" Steve asked tensely.
Steve slammed the chair down in anger having no patience for uncooperative people.
"Answer me!" Steve snapped.
Steve sighed in annoyance as he eyed the man.
"Damn it! Wo Fat set you up to this" Steve stated rather than asked.
The man bit his lip in thought before smirking. "No comment"
Kono entered the interrogation room at that moment having heard the noise. She decided Steve's gun's blazing approach probably wouldn't work.
"Boss" Kono said grabbing his attention.
Steve looked up and eyes his rookie understanding her look without speaking and moving outside to let Kono take over.
Once Steve had left Kono turned to the man who she had since discovered was called Anders A'Oie.
"Anders" Kono smirked as the man twitched at his name.
"Seems as though you've got a bit of a past, possession, robbery, assault." Kono listed as she folded her arms.
The man looked to the floor and avoided her gaze, his body tense as though she set fear upon him.
"And now we can add intention to murder four police officers and murder of two other men. Things aren't looking good for you you're going to face life imprisonment but if you help us I'll make sure that once you get that jaw fixed and two I'll make sure you're in maximum security." Kono reasoned.
"What does it matter if I'm doing life" He grunted.
"How would you fancy a broken arm?" Kono asked her eyes dark and cold as she approached the man.
"You can't do anything"
"No?" Kono questioned in mock shock as she pushed her fingers into his jaw eliciting a squeal from the grown man.
"Alright!" He yelled.
"Who are you working for?" Kono asked sternly.
"Wo Fat! Wo Fat…" The man said nervously.
Kono looked the man up and down deciding on her next question.
"What did he tell you to do?"
"Kill Five-0"
Kono returned to the smart table where the rest of the team were stood waiting and hoping she had succeeded.
"So he's working for Wo Fat…no surprise. He was instructed to kill us and told to wait out knowing we would arrive at the forest. Apparently he didn't know the other two men, they were just bait. Wo Fat must have made the call from the forest then left leaving Kinzy and Kaleo to get back to their own business then we would trace the call and Wo Fat clearly made sure we could then we would turn up hear Kinzy and Kalaeo we would approach then Anders would kill us." Kono explained as she put every detail together.
"Do you think Wo Fat was watching?" Danny asked.
The man sat in his car watching the Five-0 headquarters. He hadn't heard any more from his lackey so decided to wait and see if any one returned to HQ. His blood boiled as each member returned with every limb intact, the girl looking slightly beat up prompting him to assume she had fought back hard and that's why his man was being hauled into interrogation. He thumped the seat next to him in frustration at failing to kill the task force once again. He couldn't understand how they were surviving. They were like a cat with nine lives.
"Well Five-0 you've got seven lives left…use them carefully."
