Chapter 2
.
Pierce was in the office, waiting to take his shot. He hated the president for telling him aout the asteroid. Pierce had served his country loyally for many years, beliving in something far greater than himself. He had done this when he believed that the United States of America would outlive him by centuries. But none of that seemed to matter, not with the human race having an expiration date in less than three years. Pierce siezed what happiness he could with Sharon. Five years ago it never would've occurred to him to act on his feelings for the first lady. They had been in love once, yet she chose her husband over him. Pierce would kill the president, make Sharon love him again. From his telescope he saw the motorcade, no idea which limo the president was in. Then he got his text message, it simply said "6." This was the code, now Pierce knew exactly which limo Mason was in. Very soon he could take his shot, and escape. If the agents saw him, he could claim to be ack in the Secret Service. He had been fired, but there had been a lot of desertions after 2/4, wouldn't be hard to convince them he'd been re-hired. Pierce watched closely. As soon as Mason stepped out Pierce took his shot, direct hit. efore he could take the time to savor this Pierce dismantled the rifle and fled. It took less than 90 seconds before agent OBrien and her team were on the scene. Pierce said he was checking for the sniper. OBrien asked him what the code word of the day was. Pierce knew he'd been caught. He tried to shoot his way out, but OBrien shot him in the chest. As Pierce lay dying he tried to destroy his cellphone, protect his informant. ut OBrien saw what he was doing and took it from him.

Within an hour the computer technicians were working on Pierce's cellphone. He'd recieved a text minutes before he shot the president. That theoretically could've been a coincidence, except it said simply "6." That was code for the president's limo. Secret Service had decided which car the president should take just before he left. The only way Pierce could've known which one e was in was if he had someone on the inside. The question was who? Pierce had used technology to block who the other person was, but it didn't take long to decrypt. By the end of the day Secret Service knew exactly who told Pierce which car the president was in.
