Chapter 6
.
After the failed attempt to assasinate president Mason Mimi avoided her family. Few made a fuss about this in the press. They figured Mimi was trying to keep her daughter Rebecca out of harm's way. There were always some conspiracy theories, some said vice-president Allen was involved, others said the first lady planned her hisband's murder. And ofcourse some actually got it right, that Mimi conspired to murder her own father. She couldn't speak of others' involvement, as far as she knew the conspiracy ended with the three of them, and one of them was dead. Mimi kept silent about the general's involvement. She was torn, loyalty to her co-conspirator, versus wanting to make up for what she did. But then perhaps the general had others, who might hurt Rebecca if she spoke. That was why she stayed silent. The president let his family know aout his daughter's involvement. He forgave her, Sharon let her know she was welcome in the white house. But Jed, Mimi's older brother, hated his sister for what she'd done, and made no secret of this. Mimi stayed away, she didn't speak to Zoey either. Jed and Zoey seemed to be back together. Whatever weird sexual proclivities they shared, they supported each other in times of crises. Mimi had been friends with Zoey for awhile. They had a fair age difference, Mimi considered Zoey to be her little sister. When Mimi was pregnant with Rebecca Zoey had stood by her, even after the bullies at her school called Mimi names. Mimi just tried to raise Rebecca as far away from the madness as possible. She did this for more than two months. Than, in late September, Zoey called her. They hadn't spoken in almost three months, but Zoey said she really needed to talk. Mimi agreed to meet her in private. Zoey seemed quite upset on the phone, which wasn't too suprising. Mimi knew if Zoey was willing to even talk to her it must be urgent.
