Prompt: Gift
Sum:
The best gifts come from the heart.
Notes: Time for a new Gajevy week, which means another week of me writing up last minute fics for the prompts, and here is day one. Written in approximately 30 minutes, give or take.

Levy stared at the small wrapped box with the too large ribbon, her brow furrowing in confusion.

She'd woken up to the box on her bedside, on top of the book she'd fallen asleep reading last night, and she'd turned to ask Gajeel about it, but he wasn't there. She'd explored their entire house and he wasn't anywhere. So she'd returned to the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed and just stared.

There was no reason for the gift. It wasn't a birthday, anniversary, or holiday. And it wasn't like Gajeel was one to show his affections through gift giving, not that she minded. She didn't much care for gifts, unless they were in the form of books. Material things just didn't matter to her …

So she didn't understand why. Why was it waiting for her?

She knew she should just open it. Maybe if she saw what it was then her questions would be answered, but she found herself pausing, her hand hovering over the box.

Maybe it wasn't for her …

"Why haven't you opened it yet?"

The voice made her jump and she shot a guilty look at the door. Gajeel leaned against the doorframe, his hands shoved in his pockets and his expression almost … pouty.

"I wasn't sure it was mine."

"Who else would it be for?" he huffed. He came further into the room and knelt in front of her, taking the box from the nightstand.

"Why did you put it on the nightstand instead of giving it to me?" she asked, staring at the small box in his hands. Her mind was whirling with possibilities and she glanced up at his face. He was staring at the box, his eyes full of emotion, but unreadable. Then he raised his gaze to hers and smiled.

"I was nervous."

Her throat went dry and she looked back at the box.

"Open it," she breathed, licking her lips. Suddenly she had to know what was inside.

She couldn't look away as he undid the ribbon and removed the lid, and her breath caught in her throat when it was revealed.

It wasn't anything special, just a small metal band, but she understood.

"I wasn't sure," he started, but she threw herself in his arms, shutting him up.

"Yes, Gajeel. Yes."

"Yes?"

She pulled back, feeling the tears sting in her eyes. Her hand shook as she held it out, but when he slid the ring onto her finger she realized how right it was.

Then she looked up at his face and smiled.

"Yes."
