ONTO THE STORY!
"Today's my birthday," Luke announced around the fire, "I- I think today's my birthday. It's defiantly this week."
Everyone around the fire shared smiles. Bonnie grabbed a bottle of rum out of her bag and began passing it around (After Luke made a toast, of course). Kenny had passed, taking a seat in the cold with AJ wrapped in his arms. Omid was enjoying the rum... maybe a bit too much. It was almost like we hadn't lost Rebecca and Mathew today. Everyone was calming down. Except Arvo, who had been carelessly tied up away from the fire.
"I cant believe Jane just left," Mike muttered, rubbing the back of his neck after he handed the bottle to Bonnie, "I mean, just after what happened..."
"She must've had her reasons," Bonnie argued, taking her swig, "Honestly, I'm kind of glad she's gone. I didn't trust her."
Luke looked over at the redhead, "I trusted her."
"Well of course you did!" Nick rolled his eye and a small smile tugged his lips.
His joke didn't have the same effect on Luke though. Luke looked away, ashamed of what had happened on the observation deck and most likely guilty of it all. Bonnie noticed this and lightly punched the man she obviously still cared for on the shoulder.
"C'mon," She said, trying to lighten the mood, "He's just teasing."
Luke paused for a bit, "It was stupid... I should've done better. I guess I just wanted to forget all this for about... ten minutes."
"Ten minutes?" Mike chuckled, "that's longer then I would last at this point."
Luke blushed lightly, "Alright... it wasn't ten minutes..."
"I expected better from you Luke," Nick joked along with a chuckle as the bottle found it's way to him.
Bonnie shot her eye's at me, them being filled with amusement and she covered her mouth with her hand, "Are we really going to talk about this with a little one around?"
"She's not going to get any of it," Mike shrugged it off.
I looked around at the small circle of adults. All of them looking at me like I was the elephant in the room. Saying to no one specifically, I spoke, "I know what you're talking about..."
"I certainly hope not," Bonnies southern accent rang through my ears.
Nick looked down at me with his only eye, "You better not."
"Rebecca filled me in," I informed him, a sly smirk planted on my face. Everyone's (Except Omid's and Mike's) cheeks went a little pink, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't from the alcohol. I turned my head to Luke, who was the reddest of them all. I made a face and shivered a bit "I cant believe you and Jane did that! That's so gross!"
Luke rubbed the back of his neck, and looked away, a small smile o his own taking over his features.
Before long, Kenny came back over with AJ and declared that it was time for bed. Kenny offered to take first watch with me, but I denied his offer so instead Omid (Who Kenny unhappily handed AJ to) stayed up with me. We left Arvo where he was, not concerned with what was going to happen if he left him unsupervised. Kenny may be scared, or paranoid, or whatever of Arvo, but I certainly am not.
Omid looked out into the dark distance, AJ in the security of one of his arms and his gun in the grasp of his other hand. Omid looked down at AJ, and there laid something I haven't seen him do since we had been reunited.
"Why, Omid, is that a smile on your face?" I asked, either sarcasm or playfulness hidden in my talk, "Because by the looks of it you're actually smiling! What would the public say?"
"Crazy things, I'm sure," He played back (Which surprised me more then the fact he had smiled)
"That's all there is to say," I mumbled, not to sure if he had heard me. If he had, then he hadn't said anything in response.
We sat there, just swallowing up the silence. Crickets chirping. I wonder if walkers eat those too.
"Clem," Omid turned to me, "Kenny once had a son, right?"
The question caught me a bit off guard. Omid never met Duck, not really. Duck had died the day he had met Omid. Three hours before in fact. I swallowed, "yes, he did."
"And his son is dead, correct?" Omid asked, still bothering me with uncomfortable questions.
I nodded, "Yes."
Omid gave a blink of acknowledgement, "Alright, you can go to bed if you want, I got first watch."
I backed away. Not wanting him to ask more unwelcomed things. I opened the gate back up and scooted myself back by Nick. I would've asked to sleep in his lap like I had a couple of times back at Howes, but I'm sure he was already asleep. SO I just pressed our backs together, trying to get some body heat. Which didn't work very well. But it didn't matter because I soon felt Nick turn over and wrap an arm around me. his hand took my hat off and set it near us and he pressed a kiss to my forehead.
"You alright baby girl?" Nick asked, sleepy.
I smiled, still loving the nickname that was given to me, "Yeah, I'm fine. How are you doing?"
"Im good," Nick yawned and pulled me a bit closer, "I thought you had first watch with Omid."
"He offered to take it," I said, "And in really tired so I accepted."
He smacked his lips, "I'm rather tired as well,"
"I can hear that," I chuckled.
"Yeah," His voice drifted off and is fingers played with my curly hair, "Just get some sleep."
A smile tugged my lips as I closed my eyes. It didn't take long for me to loom to sleep.
WHACK
With another hard swing, the whip made contact with my back. A scream left my throat and pierced the air, leaving an echo as prove that it occurred. I gritted my teeth and did my best to bare the sting. Tears stung my closed eyes and began to fall down my cheeks as another hit came down. My body racked with a sob and I lifted one of my hands to cover my mouth, but that did nothing to quiet me down.
"Are you crying?" William Carver taunted. I heard his shoes make contact with the ground as he walked over to me. Ever so slowly, he lifted my chin up so he could look at my face.
I didn't answer, I kept my mouth shut and eyes shut tight. Even though the whip wasn't in his hand anymore, I still felt fear from the possibility of being struck. Being struck so that another scar may form on my flesh and remind me of my moment of weakness.
"Clementine," Carver said, rather strictly, "Open your eyes."
I remember just wanting the pain to stop. To want him to stop causing the pain. I sniffed before obeying the order given to me by the man and squinted my eyes open. His smug face held the familiar satisfied smirk that was always there.
"That's a good girl," Carver hummed as he ran his thumb across my cheek, much like nick had thousands of times before.
"Bill," I whimpered, careful not to call him by a name that would make him mad. Another tear fell down my cheek as I continued, "Please... please stop."
His smirk turned into a warm hearted smile. He leaned his face closer to mine and whispered, "I'm not doing anything. You see, I'm not even here. But I'm still hurting you Clem. You still listen to me."
I let out a shaky breath, "No..."
"Clementine."
"No!"
"Clementine!"
"NO!"
"Clementine!" I awoke to see Nick had been shaking me.
Nick spoke again, but I was to distracted by the world spinning from the nightmare I had just had. When I looked past Nick, I noticed everyone arguing in a big circle. I gently pushed Nick away as I got up and walked to them (Passing Arvo who was still tied up on the way). Kenny looked ready to murder every last one of us and Bonnie tried to reason with him, a bit of fear in her voice.
"Fuck!" Kenny cursed as I came by. He ignored my presence and kept pacing around.
"Kenny," Luke spoke up, "It'll be alright, just clam down. We'll-"
"Don't you fucking tell me to calm down!" Kenny spat back, not willing to listen to Luke, "Do you have ANY idea what this means?!"
"Of course I do, but-"
"Then you should be AGREEING with me here!"
I looked between the two of whom had been yelling back and forth at each other, "Whats going on?!"
My answer came from Bonnie, who had worry hinted in her blue eyes, "Omid ran off with AJ."
CLIFF HANGERRRRRR
