i think I won't do review time again for this

ONTO THE STORY

"What?" Nick asked, disbelief drenched his voice and had not gone unnoticed.

To show him I was serious, I grabbed the keys from their spot on the dash and put them in the palm of his hand. I tried to plead to him silently with my big, golden eyes. Something he seemed to realize, "Nick, we can just leave! The keys are here and the truck is working. Plus, we have a bag of supplies! We can go find Wellington!"

"Clem," I couldn't tell if Nick was scolding or scoffing, "We cant just do that. We'd be abandoning them."

I didn't really see why he would care about those who are left. In truth, Luke was the only other one keeping him there. And now that he's gone, there is no reason to stay. It could actually be dangerous to stay. But I could tell he would need convincing. He's still Nick after all.

I shook my head, "They have the other half of supplies, so it's not like we're leaving them for dead! Please Nick!"

"But..." His voice trailed off, "What about Kenny?"

"What about him?" I asked, trying to be colder then I really felt, "Bonnie looks like she's ready to snap at me, Mike wouldn't leave Bonnie, and Kenny... Kenny just murdered Arvo! Right in front of all of us! Do you really think it's safe for me to be around him?"

Nick looked out of the rear view window, then back at me, probably judging whether or not I was positive. He gazed back down at the metal key's. He moved the biggest one around in his hand, the moonlight shone of the edge of it. He just sat there, thinking about his options After a moment of silence he muttered, "Are you sure?"

"Yes," I gave a nod, sounding as confident I could muster.

He looked at the keys once again before adjusting one around in his hands. He put the key into it's slot and said, "Alright, buckle up."

I smiled before obeying and putting my seatbelt on and he did the same. With one quick turn, the engine roared to life and I swear that when I looked in the rear view mirror, I saw Kenny charge through that back door. But before he could even yell something at us or even think of stopping us, we had already started to drive the car away from him.

I let out a small chuckle of victory. Nick stepped on the gas pedal and drove the car into the woods, through the clearest path he could. He said something about cutting through the forest in order to get back on the actual rode, but I wasn't listening. I could feel my heartbeat in my ears, adrenaline pumping through my system. I couldn't believe we were actually doing this.

"Wellington is supposedly North," Nick said, looking ahead, "SO that's where we're heading."

I looked at him, "Good!"

Three hours later

"We have water," I offered while going through the bag. I looked back at Nick (Who was still driving, easier now that we were on the actual road) who shook his head and kept on of his hands on the steering wheel while the other rested of his lap. I moved some more things around, "As far as beverages go, I don't think we have much other then some kind of energy drink. You want some crackers or a granola bar?!"

He chuckled, bringing his free hand to push my hat down so it covered my eyes, "You sound like an excited kid."

"Well," I huffed and adjusted my hat. I took out the granola car and opened it for myself. I also took out some blue energy drink that had 'Gatorade' printed on the label and twisted the cap off if it before handing it to Nick, "I'm not a kid so you shouldn't call me that!"

"Cute," He chuckled again, "Very cute."

I playfully growled under my throat and turned over to rest my head against the car door. Over these past three hours, I have thought about the three we left behind. I did feel a little bad about it, did they really deserve that? But we're living in an hellish world, I have to look after myself. And I have Nick protecting me as well. It's just the two of us, like how I wanted. It's better this way.

"Hey, baby girl," Nick said, still keeping his eye on the road.

I turned my head toward him, "Yeah?"

"I need to talk to you about something," He took a gulp from his beverage, "It's important."

I rolled my eyes and took a bite from my food, "Could you be anymore mysterious? What is it?"

"It's about what happened at Parkers Run," He muttered, maybe a little uncomfortably, "When you were cleaning my eye out."

I felt my cheeks heat up and looked away from him as I recalled what had happened. When I had called him dad, it was a pure accident and I hadn't meant to do it at all. Been avoiding the topic. Didn't want to make things awkward. I could've sworn I looked like a cherry by the time I responded, "Oh... yeah... about that..."

"Do you really think of me as your dad?" He put me on the spot and I swear I grew redder then humanly possible.

I fiddled my fingers around as I took another bite of my bar, "Well, yeah. You protect me Nick, you check up on me and care about me. That's what dad's do."

"Clem, I'll be honest, I really do think of you as my daughter," He nervously put in (Which brought a smile to my lips) before continuing, "But I've been fucking shit at actually taking care of you."

I shook my head "No you haven't! You taught me how to shoot a rifle and have saved me multiple times from putting myself in unneeded danger!"

"Do you remember what else happened while under my supervision?" He reminded, sadly, "You were forced to kill an innocent, shot in the stomach, whipped by a madman, and nearly fucking drowned!"

"And what about the walkie talkie incident?!" I shot back, prepared to defend him against himself, "That beating Carver gave you would've killed me! You lost an eye for me! And I am more sorry then you can imagine for that! But after everything you've done for me, yeah I consider you my dad! And there is nothing you can do to convince me otherwise!"

I didn't know how sharp or harshly I spoke until he flashed me a brief glance of surprise. A small silence wedged itself between our dialogue and nothing greeted my ears but the sound of the tires rubbing against the road.

"Ok then," He gave a half shrug, acting like what had just happened wasn't a big deal to him even though the biggest smile tugged his lips, "The, as my daughter, I demand that you give me a granola bar."

Two hours later

"Shit!" Nick cursed under his breath And the car came to a sudden stop, "Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit."

I looked over at him, "Why did the car stop?"

"Out of gas," He groaned, looking around as if expecting a solution to our problem to magically pop out of nowhere. He bit his bottom lip, "There was that gas station a couple miles back... one of them could have diesel."

I shook my head, "Waste of time. Especially on something that's a might."

"Yeah," Nick sighed. He opened the car door, "How much more stuff do we have?"

"Quite a bit," I answered eyeing the bag he mentioned.

He grabbed it and walked out. undid my seatbelt as well before exiting. He looked back at me, "C'mon slow poke, lets go!"

"What're you doing?" I asked before speeding up my pace to catch up to him.

He shrugged, "Looks like we're walking the rest of the way."
