SCOTT

Two weeks had passed since Scott had begun investigating the mouthless man. Unfortunately, despite the assistance of Stiles, Derek, Lydia and Kira, they hadn't made any more progress. Scott was beginning to think maybe they should just give up. Stiles had voiced as much to him.

"It's pointless, man," Stiles replied. "He's gone by now. If he was dangerous, he would have come after one of us by now, but he hasn't. Let's just forget about it. And if he does come back, which I doubt, and he does try to attack one of us, which I doubt he will since he didn't attack me, then we'll be ready."

If Stiles was ready to give up, Scott had to take that as a sign. At least training with Lydia and Stiles was beginning to go in somewhat of a good direction. Stiles wasn't making much progress in hand to hand combat – which Scott couldn't completely blame him for. Scott wasn't even sure if he could excel at it, but Derek said Stiles needed to be much more prepared than Scott did since Stiles didn't have the abilities Scott did.

When Stiles pointed out that Derek had neglected to mention Lydia, Derek seemed to get strangely upset and say that went without saying. Then Derek ended his portion of training early and told Kira to get started, leaving everyone a little confused, especially Scott.

Stiles, surprisingly, was showing promise using a kendo stick. Lydia was as well, to an extent, but she seemed to be the opposite of Stiles and was doing better with hand to hand. Kira was pretty good at it as well, and she was teaching Lydia while Derek taught Stiles. Scott might have felt left out if it weren't for the fact that each session now ended with the two of them testing out their skills on Scott.

Even together, neither of them couldn't really take him. He mostly moved around and occasionally parried an assault. Derek had told him not to go so easy, but Scott didn't want them to think it was no use if he did go all out, or even if he used half of his power. He wanted them to hope they'd be able to take an Alpha, or at least something.

And while Stiles still wasn't completely opening up, he seemed to be in a less glum mood. He noticed that Lydia and he were growing a lot closer as well, which Scott was happy for – if anybody could understand how Stiles felt while under the Nogitsune's control, it was Lydia.

Still, every day that they were training, Scott couldn't help but think of Allison. If she'd been here, she could have taught them how to use a bow, how to make one of those clever tree traps her dad had used, probably even whipped out a big book of demons and given them a head up.

Derek had asked Scott to reach out to Allison's father about the mouthless man, and he told Derek he did. It wasn't a complete lie. He'd started calling him when suddenly his phone lost its signal, and Scott took that as a sign.

Truthfully, he didn't want to call, and yet he did. He wanted to see how he was doing, but Scott felt slightly ashamed. He knew he wasn't responsible for what had happened, and he'd been saying the exact same thing multiple times to Stiles, but he still felt guilty. If he and Allison had never begun dating, maybe she wouldn't have even been tricked by her crazy Aunt and set in motion many, many awful events.

Then again, if that had happened, she'd have never saved him and the others when they attacked the Alpha pack and thought they'd lost Derek… or the time he couldn't heal… or –

Well, he got the picture. There were pros and cons with everything. And deep down, Scott knew that Allison never would have wanted to be kept in the dark or out of this. She'd have laughed at him for making such a claim, saying she would have been involved anyway, even if she'd never met him.

And on some level, Scott knew that to be true.

And even though they had stayed friends, there had always been a bit of a strain between them, a weird block that wouldn't allow them to be quite as close as they had once been. And because of that, he never really saw too much of Allison's father, excluding supernatural circumstances and school events.

And as for Isaac… well, Scott hadn't really heard much from him other than the occasional "I'm not dead, sorry about not texting" excuse. He didn't even really know where Isaac had gone. All he knew was that he was gone, just like Allison's dad, and he wanted to give them both their space.

Whenever he felt the need to talk about Allison, Scott always found it easier to talk about it with his mom. She'd told him he was allowed to be happy and move on, and he knew that. Allison had, and he knew if she were here, she'd tell him the same thing.

But Scott didn't want to make Kira think she was a rebound, or some way to mend his hurt. He liked her, really, really liked her. And things had been going great for them at first, but it seemed like things had quickly ended just before they beat the Nogitsune.

Now he was afraid he was making things awkward for her. If he was, at least she never made him feel that way. She always had a way of making him smile and laugh and feel good about himself.

But maybe she had moved on already. After all, it'd been so long already. Kira probably didn't even think about him in an romantic way anymore.

Scott missed feeling like the hot girl.
