CHAPTER 2: The Mark
Padma recalled a late July morning. She had woken up early to start the preparations for Lily and Harry's birthday celebration. Harry and Lily shared the same birthdate and this was Lily's eleventh birthday and the start of her Hogwarts education. Padma stepped outside to pick some herbs from the garden when she noticed it. The crimson colored cross on her door, no doubt the same blood stained one that haunted her childhood memories. This couldn't be?, thought Padma, not here, not under the watchful eyes of the Aurors. Could it be that this was just some random marking made by some neighborhood kids?, after further inspection it was without a doubt marked in blood. Padma dropped everything and ran to wake up her husband. "This can't be the cult, can it?" pondered Harry out loud, "Harry this is their mark, small line crossed by a bigger line marked in blood!" recalled Padma, "Harry, if they are here they mean trouble, I think the kids might be in danger".
The crimson marking was a mark used by the Kaliloge, a group of wizards in India whose sole purpose in life was to become the strongest most feared group of wizards in the world. Padma had recalled to Harry that the Kaliloge would aide weaker wizards and muggles in their various unreachable desires, in return the Kaliloge would take a part or the whole soul of their beneficiary. Unlike in Britain and other nations without a formal Ministry of Magic, Indian wizards (or Jinns as the muggles called them) interacted with muggles almost freely. The interaction was mainly done through a medium such as a Priest, Molvi, or other spiritual leaders. Just like anywhere else some used this connection for good and others like the Kaliloge used it for evil. The mark of the Kaliloge symbolized the repayment of a debt, the Kaliloge would mark the homes of wizards or muggles who owed them for their services.
Harry had been an Auror for a very long time, and had come across the darkest of magic, but his heart always raced with anxiety when it came to dealing with dark magic from India and Arabia. With dozens and dozens of Aurors always on the lookout, the Ministry of Magic was able to keep these dark wizards away. But now the mark showing up for the second time this summer, this matter was more than urgent. The Kaliloge were here and they wanted something from the Potters.
