Chapter 4: Changing of the Guard

The wizarding world woke up to mournful news, Kingsley Shacklebolt, the Minister of Magic, was dead, murdered. Harry Potter had woken up very early that morning, before the news had even broken out, he left for the Ministry stressed over the latest suspicious activity. As soon as he arrived via the flu network, he was met with a group of solemn looking aurors. " , we were just about to contact you, it seems we have really bad news, the Minister was found dead in his house just about an hour ago", said Charlie Woodfrow who was the in charge of the Ministers personal security. Woodfrow explained to Harry that the five aurors who kept guard the Ministers house noticed that the Minister did not wake up for his usual walk at dawn, after a while the aurors decided to check and that's is when they found the Minister, dead from apparent strangulation. There was no sign of forced entry, the flu network was not triggered, and the aurors would know if someone had appareted in or out of the house. Harry ordered every auror in the country to be on high alert, and called for tighter security at the Ministry, Diagon Alley and Hogwarts. Kevin Bletchley who was an elderly member of The Wizengamot was given duties as interim Minister for Magic, while the Ministry sorted out details. A strong successor would be needed to be in place, Kevin Bletchley accepted the interim position on the grounds that she would not be the Minister permanently as she had decided to retire. The Wizengamot decided to hold an emergency election in three days time, while they collected names of individuals whom they thought fit to take the position. Harry made sure to officially remove his name from any consideration, as he had no desire to become Minister. On the contrary, Harry felt that Percy Weasley would be the best to take over as new Minister. The following is the obituary in the Daily Prophet.
