Prudence felt so incredibly weak. She was in disbelief that something actually happened to him... the blackness was crushing her. She could hear her friends saying her name but it was only foggy murmurs, nothing was making any sense, what happened to him?
The blackness led her, it pulled her to her feet and out of the room. She could feel her legs limply beneath her and her body just floating lifelessly across the stone floor. She was drifting out of the room, the numbness reaching incredulous levels as Daphne and Blaise followed her. She didn't want to believe it... maybe she was still sleeping, this was just a nightmare and none of it was real... But the heartbreak felt so very real. A million times worse than the anticipation of heartbreak... She truly felt broken and she still didn't know what Pansy actually did, all she knew was the somber feelings dragging her down.
The tips of her toes scraped across the floor as her body turned the corner to enter the common room. The blackness exploded in her chest and she fell like a marionette getting its strings cut, crashing to the floor and bruising her knees. She couldn't lift her head, she didn't want to, she was terrified to look up and find what was making her feel this way. Because she knew when she did it would all come down, crushing her fragile little bag of bones into the stone.
Somewhere very deep inside her she found the courage to look up. It seemed like time slowed down just to agonize her, her eyes adjusted and she focused on the couch in front of the hearth.
She felt empty...
There he was, sitting on the couch, Pansy lounging in his lap casually. Pansy was looking at her, a satisfied and evil smirk set on her face.
"You have no idea what you have done..." Pru heard her own voice rumble.
Draco turned his head to see what Pansy was smiling at. There in the entrance from the girl's dorms he saw a girl looking at them from where she was collapsed on the floor. The first thing he noticed was that she was quite pretty, then he felt something odd stir in his gut as he looked at her, but he couldn't place it and he didn't appreciate feeling confused, so he suppressed it. "Who is that?" he snipped.
Pru watched and listened to Pansy's reply as if petrified, "That's just the new girl, I wouldn't bother with her unless you want her to go sniveling to her grandfather, the Minister..."
Draco rolled his eyes, dismissing her without a second thought, he didn't want anything to do with the Ministry.
Pru was on her feet, that confirmed it... he didn't know her, or remember anything about them. The heartache still pounded dead in her chest, but another strong emotion was creeping in... rage.
Daphne and Blaise were disgusted into silence as they watched the painful exchange of words. When Prudence finally stood on her unreliable feet they figured she would leave... but she stayed. As they kept their eyes on her, wondering what she was going to do, they were intimidated to see the outline of her body blurring from the gravity of her violent shaking. As her form became blearier everything in the room began to slowly levitate into the air.
Draco felt the sofa beneath him begin to rise as Pansy's cool demeanor turned to one of shock. "What the fuck...?" He hopped off and turned to see that girl standing up and staring at them looking creepy as a dementor, like some sort of possessed phantom and glide toward them. "Why is she staring at us Pans?" The girls head twitched when he spoke and now he was starting to get a little nervous. From the corner of his eye he watched Pansy try to make a run to the door, "Hey!" He yelled after her, confused about what exactly was happening.
He watched as the girl raised her wand and his girlfriend's body stopped mid motion as if she petrified her, but no words were spoken... He glared at the disturbing girl, "What the fuck are you? What do you want from us?" Her head jerked uncomfortably again.
Us!? Pru was screaming in her head, how he could he refer to them as an us? How could he defend her? He wasn't himself, that wasn't her Draco... Pru stopped herself, she couldn't get any closer to him, not without the pain blinding her. So she instead drug Pansy's body to her until they were face to face. Pru looked into the Pug's eyes that were full of fear, "You will pay for this," she seethed.
Draco was planted to his spot, unable to move and speak as he watched Pansy's body unwillingly move across the room until she was in front of the eerie girl. Although he would barely say he cared for his long time annoying girlfriend, he couldn't exactly stand by and let her be bullied. He yelled out, "Stupify!" trying to get the girl to release Pansy from whatever hold she had on his sputtering girlfriend.
The spell dissipated into nothing before it even reached the girl, her power was awesome... he had only ever witnessed such great power in the presence of Voldemort.
Prudence heard Draco throw a spell her way, but it fizzled. It didn't have to hit her though, the fact that he did it all was enough to turn her shattered heart bits into nothing but dust... She dropped her hold on Pansy, letting the stupid girl drop harshly to the floor. She disobeyed her own mind and took one look at Draco, she really wished she didn't because he was looking back at her with complete horror and disgust...
Draco was so bewildered, he looked into the girls eyes that were now filled with melancholy, why was she looking at him like that? As if she longed for him? He found it discouraging since he never met her before.
Tears brimmed Pru's eyes as she stared at him, his thoughts were no longer loving toward her, he didn't know her, he didn't want her, he was appalled by her... He broke his stare to go and collect Pansy from the floor. It killed her to see him trying to comfort that horrible girl he hated less than one hour before...
Prudence felt detached from reality, she felt nothing... A loud crash echoed in the room as all the levitated objects hit the ground and she fled the room.
Daphne and Blaise snapped out of their stupor and swooped in on the two idiots.
Draco saw his best mate coming toward him looking furious. "What the fuck is that girl even doing at Hogwarts? She obvious-"
"Shut up!" Blaise bellowed, "Didn't you learn your lesson last time Pansy!? You're a fucking fool for messing with her again!"
"You'll be lucky if you get out of this alive!" Daphne screamed at the blubbering girl in Draco's arms, hating her more than she could ever remember.
Pansy was frightened. And no, she would never learn, not when it came to Draco. She would die for him if she had to... and it was looking like that may end up being the case.
Draco looked back from his friends to his girlfriend, who much like him, had no response. Finally he hollered, "What is going on?"
Nobody answered him.
"I know what you did to us as well you deceitful twat!" Daphne screamed before leaving one steamy hand print across Pansy's face and chasing after her real friend.
Pansy stood up, the trepidation almost palpable. She knew that if she possessed the power that Pru did and the tables were turned she would kill Pru without a second thought. If another girl was trying to take him away, she would do it... hell, she's been trying to... but she just wasn't strong or smart enough. But she had him now, at least for a little while. She wrapped her arms around the man she lived for as her fat tears rolled down her cheeks, "She's going to try and kill me Draco!"
Draco hugged her back, unable to find a proper response through all the confusion he was feeling.
Blaise heaved a breath, "If she kills you Pansy then she will kill us all! Because the only way she would ever do something so unforgivable is if she is a demon, which your dumb ass may have very well caused her to turn into! I hope you're fucking happy!"
Draco was stunned as he watched his best mate leave... Who was this girl, why were his friends defending her!? It was perplexing the amount of questions that were swimming in his head...
The higher the morning sun rose in the sky the faster the rumors spread, Draco Malfoy dumped Prudence Scrimgeour. Even the professors weren't able to ignore the babbling gossip that spread like wildfire on what should have been a quiet Sunday morning. When word reached the ears of Professor Dumbledore and Professor Snape they feared for the very worst.
.
Blaise and Daphne followed Prudence outside to where she stood still by the edge of the lake. She didn't say a word and they were too scared to say anything to her, she wouldn't turn to show her face, but at least she wasn't hovering anymore. They stood silently by for quite some time, just waiting for her to say something...
Prudence had no idea where she was going. She couldn't get the images of Draco and Pansy together to go away. The way he looked at her with such disgust was burned into her retinas, taunting her until she couldn't handle it anymore.
Daphne choked with shock when she saw Pru start to walk forward again, continuing over the water's edge as if it were solid ground. Panic rose into her lungs, "This is bad Blaise, this is very bad!"
Blaise gave her hand a firm squeeze, he felt just as terrified. He wasn't scared of Pru, he was scared for Pru. The only person in the world that could stop her didn't even know her...
They continued to watch her walk into the horizon, over the black water, as their hearts beat hollowly. She finally seemed to stop once her silhouette was only a dot, they hoped maybe she was finally calming down, but they were helpless to reach her.
"What do we do? I don't know what to do!" Daphne whimpered.
Prudence managed to rid herself of his face, but in return all she had left was the blackness and the pain. She couldn't see the rising sun, she couldn't feel the brisk wind or the choppy water, there was nothing... just... pain... and black...
Blaise and Daphne had no words for what they witnessed next. They could see the water around Pru begin to slowly churn with choppy waves. Their eyes rounded in fear and their jaws went slack as the water around their grief-stricken friend began to rise around her, swirling about and encapsulating her in the center. The funnel quickly rose higher and higher into the air and within seconds it had turned into a tornado that with the darkening clouds. She was brewing a storm, a nasty and dark storm, much like the one in her heart...
New frightened voices snapped them out of their moment of awe and fear. When Daphne turned her head she could see Professor Dumbledore and Professor Snape running toward them, their eyes entranced with sudden twister.
"We have to try and stop this Albus, she could destroy us all!" Snape was yelling at the Headmaster wildly. But the older man seemed pensive now.
Professor Dumbledore watched the giant cone of swirling water that was now accompanied by booming thunder and flashing lightning. He had never been so torn with a decision in his many, many years. Does he interfere? His hypothesis of Prudence Scrimgeour's amazing life path was a baffling one. If he were right, then no, he should not. He felt this council was testing her, or maybe even training her. This was something that she alone had to overcome, which he truly believed she was capable of. She was an amazing girl. In fact, by all measures, she was the most amazing girl that history has ever encountered. She would not become a demon, he was sure of it. "No Severus," he replied to his colleague as calmly as he could, "She will prevail all on her own."
Severus stared back, his color whiter than bone, "What? So...?! So we just watch, we just let this happen!?"
"Yes."
Daphne didn't like the way Professor Snape seemed so unnerved, it was scary. Professor Dumbledore's calm demeanor only made her feel slightly better. He didn't look grave, but quietly hopeful...
As the minutes passed the spout of water only grew in size. The girth of it expanded to dangerous proportions, forcing the small group of onlookers to move away from the shore. Daphne was terrified for her best friend, she was in the middle of that. Yes, she was also the one creating it, but she just wanted her friend to be safe. Daphne understood though... Pru was constructing what a broken heart feels like on the inside...
Students began to take notice of the peculiar storm that stood in one spot and gather outside to watch in astoundment. The small few that had been outside when it all began anxiously spilled to the crowds what was causing the storm... who was causing the storm...
Hermione's eyes prickled with tears. It was all coming true, everything Pru said was coming true. She heard about Malfoy dumping Pru before she even made it down for breakfast and she knew that it wasn't true. She knew that something terrible happened. Not long after that the screams started about the weird storm brewing outside and she knew it was Pru, she just knew... Now, this is what it looks like when a goddess gets her heart broke...
She pushed her way through all the bewildered students until she found Daphne. She could hear the whispers as she fought to get through, everyone had made the conclusion that Prudence was much more than a regular witch. Also, Draco Malfoy was a git, but that wasn't new. She embraced Daphne once she was close enough, her crying now impairing her vision, "Daph, what's going on? What did Pansy do to her? Why is everyone saying Draco dumped her?!"
Daphne hiccupped through her sobs, "She erased Pru from Draco's memory, he doesn't know who Pru is!"
Hermione choked on her shock... no... Oh Merlin, no...
"And now if she doesn't control her early transformation she- she..." Daphne couldn't even say it, she didn't want to speak the horrible words.
"She what? What Daphne, tell me!" Hermione was screaming, her undying loyalty to her first real girl friend causing her to bend on insanity.
But Daphne couldn't speak, only grasp onto Blaise and cry into his shoulder. Blaise looked at Hermione square, his jaw line grim, "If she can't control this she can be taken over and become... a demon..." He couldn't tell her that Pru could also kill them all...
Hermione didn't have any words, just tears.
.
Draco and Pansy stood in a stone archway on the fifth floor, watching the violent storm like everyone else. They had deduced on their own that it was that girl causing it to happen, her great power was absolutely boggling.
Draco felt very weird about it. This girl was doing this directly after threatening Pansy and fleeing the Slytherin House... And the way she had looked at him before she left, her eyes haunted. Why hadn't he never met her until today? Where did she come from? And why did everyone he pass stare at him as if he killed someone?
"Tell me what you did," he said to Pansy very seriously.
Pansy was clinging to him and refused to let go. She hadn't stopped trembling since the encounter with that girl. Draco didn't like how every second only produced more and more questions, he didn't appreciate how he felt that he was some how involved in what was going on. ...And Pansy wouldn't answer him. She kept staring at the overwhelmingly ginormous funnel cloud that was swirling right in front of her.
"Pansy!" He barked, "What did you do?"
What was she supposed to tell him? She couldn't tell him the truth... It wasn't a love potion she gave him, just a powerful memory powder, specifically designed for him to forget and then despise Pru. The potion was working better than she could have imagined. He had no idea who Pru was, and when he met her he didn't give her a second thought. Even when Pru made her presence very relevant he was disgusted with her. It was everything Pansy could have hoped for... but still, he could break up with her if he finds out that she altered his mind...
"I didn't know she was some freak Draco, I didn't know she could turn into a demon!" That was at least true...
"Answer me!" Draco hollered, now completely aggravated, what did this girl's storm have to do with why he felt so... off?
Pansy panicked, "I broke something of hers, something valuable!"
"What? What did you break!?"
Pansy wasn't able to get out a response because the thunder cracked intensely, causing them to cover their ears. The lightening showered down in continuous bolts and along with it came waves of Pru's outpouring broken heart, making everyone feel just a fraction of how she felt. Draco fell to his knees, hating the feeling that came and went in an instant, it was torturous. When it passed he heaved a breath of relief and stood up, not bothering to help Pansy. He bore his eyes hard into the heart of the storm, doing his best to see if that girl was really in there... He understood now that Pansy broke her heart, some how, Pansy did this to her...
.
Her childhood never happened, she couldn't remember her family, she couldn't remember her mentors or all the amazing places she traveled... Prudence's life before that moment had ceased to exist. She was now just a body of energy with a heart so broken it left her nothing but a void. The blackness she felt had began to turn to sinister and evil thoughts of revenge. They felt good, they felt comfortable and right. It gave her relief to latch onto the malicious hate that began to fill her up...
But then... amongst the sea of wicked black she saw the tiniest speck of white and immediately recognized it as Draco. He was close... she focused on him and heard all his questions and confusion begging to be solved, she felt his doubt in Pansy... and that was all it took to calm the beast inside her trying to take her over...
.
Professor Snape and Professor Dumbledore were completely pressed against the bricks of the castle. The only students that remained by their side were Daphne, Blaise, and Hermione.
"Albus! Albus! I must implore we do something! She's going to destroy the castle, we must evacuate all the students!"
But Dumbledore already saw the change in her, he spotted the sunny beam peaking through the clouds where Prudence was beginning to overcome the darkness.
Severus saw the sparkle return to the Headmaster's eyes and knew something had happened as well, that she would pull through.
Sure enough the lightning has stopped, the thunder had quieted, and the dark bulbous clouds had began to lighten and soften as the swirling spout of water slowly shrunk. A burst of sunlight broke through the clouds giving alleviation to the few still left outside.
"It's stopping!" Cried Hermione.
"Merlin, it's clearing!" Daphne shouted happily, "She didn't turn!"
"She didn't turn!" Blaise, Hermione, and Daphne repeated as they hugged each other with alleviation.
They continued to watch carefully as the funnel kept shrinking until it was just a tube of water, Pru's figure visible in the center.
Daphne's brow creased with worry, "Is she... limp?" Upon closer inspection they could see Pru's body hanging like a rag doll, her head back and her arms dangling at her sides.
"Oh no, she is," Hermione whispered, her fear beginning to return.
Daphne knew better though, "She's just knocked out, she's probably never exerted that much power before, she'll be fine."
Even still, it was nerve wrecking to watch the water that held Pru up completely dissipate like it was never even there and her body plunge toward the water. Dumbledore took quick action and summoned a bubble to gently catch her and slowly bring her back to land.
.
Draco continued watching the scene long after the storm had died. He couldn't look away as his best mate, Daphne, and.. the Mudblood? Followed behind the Headmaster and Snape who carried the body of the mysterious and powerful girl back into the castle.
A/N- Woo quick update! Tell me what you think :)
