Chapter 6- Feelings
Outward Appearance
It was a particularly rough mission, but it was not Bruce's aching muscles stealing his attention as they made their way back to the Watchtower. It was her- it was always her. He denied it for so many years and he cursed himself for the wasted time. He had been so stubborn and what a fool he'd been. He suppressed a smile. She was right in front of him and he couldn't stop staring.
"We should get you to the med bay," she said as they exited the Javelin.
"Yes, Princess," he said almost absentmindedly.
"Not arguing, did you hit your head too?"
"No, I've just learned to pick my battles." He leaned into her. "Besides, the quicker we get this done, the quicker I can take you home," he whispered. Her eyebrow only cocked slightly as they continued on. She said nothing and the other leaguers passed them by (not realizing a thing).
As Wonder Woman and Batman made their way down the hall they gave nothing away. No one outside the founders knew who they really were, not to the public or to each other. The "other" leaguers had no idea what they'd been through, how long they'd been married, how many children they had or how crazy their lives were. Nothing of their outward appearance betrayed their feelings or hinted of what they were to each other.
A Good Man Is Hard to Find
It was late, but she couldn't sleep, her mind wandered to the man that slept beside her. She had come to Man's World to help, but she always assumed she would return to Themyscira. Eventually the world would not need her and then what else would keep her there? She never expected to form an extraordinary team of heroes that made it their responsibility to protect the world. She certainly never imagined she would fall in love. Her opinion of men was not favorable, but somehow he changed that. He was brave and honorable, everything she assumed they could not be. He amazed her with all he did. He had no powers, yet he was so far from ordinary. It amazed her. What amazed her more was when she showed her interest, he rebuffed her. Most men she met wanted to fall at her feet, but not this one. Not the man that would be her husband, the father of her children and make her never want to leave Man's World.
