If That's What It Takes
Even if she looks like a broken angel, all I can see is strength in her eyes. My Serena, my love, please be strong.
What would the future hold? Could this be the last time he had a chance to hold her? Exhaustion from the past few days had crashed against him. He was tired. They all were pushed to the brink. Tuxedo Mask pressed his face into his gloved hands.
Darkness had enveloped the castle. Ever since the future Queen had been put to sleep, the light of Crystal Tokyo had dimmed. Endymion alone could not keep the future in tact alone. It was why he sent for the guardians from the past. They needed a miracle.
Sailor Moon's light from her transformation surrounded her. Her eyes turned tO a mirror that rested on a vanity. Normally, she would be able to throw her "meatballs" up in hair ties without even looking at her reflection. Her mom always was amazed how fast she could get ready for school. Serena loved sleeping...even if it meant three minutes extra, she would wait until the last possible minute to get up.
"I look at this mirror and I see Serena, but I don't even feel like Serena anymore," Sailor Moon whispered. Her hands became clasped in front of her chest. Yes, she looked the same. Dark circles now lined her eyes, but there was not any other difference.
But her heart? No, her heart wasn't the same. Over the past few days, she felt her doubts growing more than ever. She was a strong warrior, she knew it, but she hadn't been strong enough to stop Diamond.
Pretending was easy for her. She could tell lies and assure the scouts and Darien she was going to be alright, but inside? No, she wouldn't be alright. Diamond has taken the very confidence she thought she had.
Am I even able to defeat him? He's coming here...he's coming for me...will he be able to defeat us? He's already defeated me in so many ways...took the one thing I thought I had the freedom to give...and Darien? He seems to be holding it all in. He's the man I love and even Diamond has put a doubt in his mind for our love, I can see it. He won't say it, he will love me, yes...but he wil only see me as used...as worthless-"
"Serena?" Tuxedo Mask rested a hand on her shoulder. Squeezed it.
"...you don't have to say it, I already know."
His grip tightened. Forcefully, he turned her around until they were face to face. He shook her,"Stop this! I love you and nothing will change that."
He knows me so well...it's like he reads my thoughts, my emotions, my pain.
"And when the time comes," he felt his face flush,"when the time comes for us to be together, it will be beautiful and-"

I will lay down my heart, my body, my soul
I will hold on all night and never let go

A laugh echoed in the dismal chamber. The walls echoed the sinister voice as if it continued to mock them. Darien automatically spun around and pressed Serena against the wall as if to protect her.
"What a touching scene," Prince Diamond, who was leaning against the open chamber door, now had a grin on his face. It almost made him sick.
Darien hissed,"This is between me and you, Diamond."
More laughter. Diamond took a step forward casually with his hands resting on his hips. "You're right...and then you're wrong...this will only be between us for a short while. I will strangle you until your breath slows, then I will take her over and over again until I see the life slip from your eyes. You're wrong, however, when you said it will be beautiful when she is with you...I will be the only one to ever touch her."
He wasn't ready. Tuxedo Mask, not as quick as usual, was already pressed against the wall with a hand at his neck. Prince Diamond howled with laughter,"Is your death to be this easy?!" His fingers burned as he dug them tighter into the white flesh before him. Yes, wise man surely had given him more power!
Serena shook her head, tears now gathering in her eyes, "Please, please don't do this. There has to be some good in your heart." Her strength seemed weak. Raising her arms, she called for healing.
"MOON HEALING ACTIVATION!"
Sailor Moon lifted her wand. Waited. Absolutely nothing came from it. Not again. Diamond threw Tuxedo Mask on the floor. The young prince dropped to his knees, clawing at his throat and sucking in as much air as possible.
"Do you not remember, darling? All of your powers are useless. The dark crystal zaps all of your powers, takes control of you. I can make you do as I wish." As if to prove a point, he opened his hand and raised his opposite in the air.
Tuxedo Mask let out a groan as his body was now suspended in the air. A dark cloud formed in the shape of a hand slowly constricted his throat once again. Laughter erupted as he could see the young prince's face turning white. "Now...as I was saying..."
Frozen. No, please, not again! I could not even heal him! My powers are not strong enough.
His eye widened on his forehead, his body now close to hers. With a single finger, he traced it against his Queen's,"Where were we...before we were interrupted?"

Emerald was mad. No, she was beyond mad. She felt rage. It didn't take her as long as she thought to reach Crystal Tokyo. Pulling herself to front of the castle, she looked at the pitiful palace. Wasn't this suppose to be a city of love and light? It looked like a cemetery.
Her entire life she had devoted her heart to a man who didn't even love her. Her life...wasted...she would have revenge. That silly moon girl had gotten in the way, no longer!
Her eyes looked around at the four bodies that were scattered before her. Ahh, he is here. Walking past each sailor scout, she tsked her tongue. They didn't stand a chance against the wise man's powers.
She knew something had changed. Even the dark crystal felt more powerful. Diamond had done some bargaining. Wise man was more than willing to tell Emerald about the negotiations Diamond had made.
He also was a master at thoughts. For only a short time, wise man had convinced Emerald that Diamond's love for Serenity was poisonous. It was a poison that would take over the dark crystal and it had to be destroyed. But how?
Wise man had given Diamond power, yes, but had also taken the one thing Diamond controlled: his soul. Not any longer. It seemed as if Serenity owned all of Diamond. There was no release from it!
Emerald wiped away tears that gathered in her eyes. Wise man had comforted her, tried to console her with his raspy voice,"...you weren't good enough." Not good enough?! She had given her heart, soul, and body to Diamond.
All she wanted was love.

The hands of the devil himself were on her again. Grasping, pulling. Her locket was ripped away. How could she even think? Serena closed her eyes. Was this their fate? Her eyes rested on Darien suspended in the air. His breathing was shallow, his blue eyes rested on hers with a look of remorse. There was no saving her. This was it.
"You will forget all about him, love. Let me make you happy," Diamond hissed in her ear. He was pressed intimately against her. Nothing made him more happy than this. Need overcame him. Laughter rang in his enemy's ears,"I will show you how to bring her pleasure, Endymion. I hope you watch well!"

Serena held her breath. If only death would just take her! Anything but this nightmare! She began to weep as she saw Darien's eyes close.
.
.
.
Diamond fell on top of Serena. His weight crumbled against her body, his eyes wide. Serena refused to breath. How much longer until he was done? Until this hell ended?!
Thud.
Darien once again sucked in air as he fell to the stone floor. He looked liken a rag doll. Clasping his throat, he undid the top of his button as if to make more room for a breath. Freedom!
"Darien?! DARIEN!?"
Sailor Moon Turned her eyes on Diamond. His own breathing was short. His body remained still. His hands, however, had released her skirts and gathered at his own chest. His eye on his forehead closed, his voice shaking,"Do not worry, Serenity, I won't leave you."His fingers pressed against his chest. Blood had began to stain through his beautiful white coat.

Emerald released the knife she had plunged into her love's back. Tears of rage traced down her cheeks. She had done it. It was over with. No turning back. Stumbling backwards, she pressed herself against the wall wishing she could vanish into it.
Sailor Moon pushed the prince off of her, her eyes wide with terror. For once in her life, she didn't know what to do.
Diamond finally felt the knife protruding to his chest. Laying on the bed, he let his eyes drift to the woman behind him. "E-Emerald? W-why would you do this?"
A sob escaped her lips as she lowered herself to her knees. Oh, her love! "It was the only way," she whispered.
"I-I was good to you."
She shook her head,"it was the only...way..."
The prince let out a holler of pain. Grasping the handle of the knife, he ripped it from his back. Blood oozed out of the open wound. The scent alone overpowered the room. "I am to die because of your foolish jealousy?!" Giving up, he laid on the bed with his face turned staring at the green haired beauty.
"No, my love," she whispered. Crawling on her hands, she came to him and touched A strand of hair delicately. Life was drifting from her precious prince. "You gave wise man your soul, Diamond...he wanted you out of the way so he could rule the Dark Kingdom. You were a puppet, he just used your love for Serenity to get Crystal Tokyo! When you gave him your soul...you endangered everyone...me, your Serenity, them!"
"...what do they matter?! They're our enemies!"
"Look at them, Diamond, what do you see?! Her small hands touched his chin and pointed her finger to the young lovers before them. Sailor Moon was crouching by Darien's side with his head in her lap. Back and forth she rocked him, her words reassuring him.
"That is love. Even after you took everything from them, they were strong. They are not the enemy, we are...we have lived under Wise man's dark powers too long...love, we...we are the wrong ones..."
A cough, a strain of his voice,"W-why not just tell me?!"
"Wise man has your soul, Diamond, and that also means he has your heart. I've seen good in you, Diamond. Sometimes, after we would make love, you would hold me in the wee hours in the morning...or one time, during that thunderstorm? You held me...you didn't send me away...but wise man took the last bit of that good away from you."
He smiled. Such a foolish woman. Scared of simple lightening. It was one of the few times he felt an attachment to her. So many years he relied on her, used her for wrong things, but all along he knew there was a bond between them. "You always were close to my heart."
The prince of darkness looked at the woman before him. How blind had he been? This wonderful creature was before him all the time, yet he just now realized it? For a brief moment, his heart felt light. But also guilt. "Dear Emerald, I am so sorry...for it all."
"Shh, now..." She pressed a kiss to his forehead.
.
.
.
"There is time. I can heal him." Has she really just offered? Shouldn't she be angry and laughing at his death? Her eyes were filled with worry, her body trembling with fear. Something inside of her screamed. Everyone deserved a second chance. Never had she killed anyone. Moon power wasn't about revenge...it was about love!
Emerald looked at the blonde princess that plagued her jealousy,"W-why would you do that? We are enemies."
"You have a good heart, Emerald, and you turned your ways by coming here. You set him free from the wise man-"
For a brief moment, Emerald let a smile play on her lips. Is it possible?! Will we finally get a chance to love?! Will my heart finally be free from all of its torments wise one held over us?
"Wise man still controls me, Emerald. He will not leave me until the last ounce of blood is out of this body. Not even moon power can save me." He took another deep breath as if it were a chore,"I wish there was another way. I wish..." I wish I had a chance to love you.
"...me too, Diamond."
Closing his eyes, he took one more breath,"I'm sorry, Sailor Moon."
There were no more words as the young prince took a final breath. Nothing could fix the damage he had done. Apologies were a good balm for the soul, but Diamond's actions had left scars. His sin had caught up to him.
Sailor Moon stood like a statue as Emerald wept over the lifeless body. As hurt as she was, never did she desire death to anyone...not even her enemies.
What more was there to do? With Wise Man no longer controlling Diamond, there was no more a threat of his presence. Diamond had been his hands, his body. Now, he was a lifeless shell.

Hours passed. The scouts were gathered at the front of the palace. Endymion, standing beside them, nodded his head,"I cannot thank you enough, Sailor Scouts. Without you, we would not be able to defeat the evil that had overcome us."
"It was not us, it was her..." Sailor Moon turned her head towards Emerald. The young woman stood behind the scouts with a look of discomfort.
"She will be well cared for...I assure you." Endymion bowed as he looked at the young woman.
Emerald walked towards Serena. She gently placed her hand on her shoulder,"I cannot take the pain away from the past, but I can thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for saving me, Serena."
"It was worth every pain, Emerald, to see you free. I am sorry for your loss."
.

And in less than a few steps, the scouts were back through the gates of time. Each were silent. What exactly would the days ahead of them, old? This trip certainly changed a lot of things. Would there ever be joy?
Rini, who was sleeping in Darien's arms, yawned loudly and looked at her future father,"Did I miss anything while I was asleep?"
Laughter erupted.
Yes.
Yes, there would be joy.
