Chapter 6: The Phone Call

Ikuto's POV

I sighed as I landed at the alley near the café we had gone to just now. I'd been aimlessly flying around for the past two hours, trying to remember…remember where we had met…when we had met…how we had met. But nothing was coming back, it was really annoying. Giving up on trying to remember, I had finally decided to come back to the café. I just had to talk to her. Folding my wings away, I walked into the shop.

I expected to be greeted by Amu again but a short girl with shoulder length blonde hair greeted me instead.

"Welcome to Midnight Rose, how may I help-"

"Where's Amu?" I cut her off.

She gave me a confused look and I sighed irritably, "Pink hair, gold eyes, comes to about this high," I said as I raised my hand to about three inches above my shoulder height.

She flashed me an annoyed look, "I'm not stupid, I know who she is. But, her shift has already ended. She left about five minutes ago."

I was about to leave when she said, "Hey, you're quite cute aren't you? Sorry I didn't introduce myself, the name's Hikari. My shift ends in twenty minutes, how about we go grab a drink after this?" she asked in I way that I supposed she meant to be flirtatious.

"Not interested," I said bluntly before yanking out my arm and stalking off.

I heard her huff indignantly from behind me but I ignored her and walked out of the shop. Great, now I'd have to go and chase her down.

I sighed as I walked towards the main street, however, just before I could take another step, I suddenly felt something weird pulling at my heart and without control over my actions, I dashed down the small alley at the side of the café.

No…she wouldn't have been so foolish to walk home alone in this kind of shady place…would she…?

I raced down the narrow lane before making a few turns here and there, not even a hundred percent sure where I was going, I was just following my gut.

I was making what felt like the last turn when I heard a wretched screaming sound and I swear my heart froze for a second. That…that was Amu.

I turned the corner just in time to see Amu pull out the knife from her blood soaked shirt, a pained expression on her face. She seemed to be in a daze as she turned towards me, her body swaying slightly.

"Iku…to?" she mumbled as her eyes slowly closed and I made a mad dash for her, wrapping my arm around her waist as I held her up.

"Amu! Amu! Oi! Amu wake up!" I frantically called out as I shook her.

She didn't respond and I felt my heart beat frantically in my chest. I quickly placed my shaking hands over the wound and muttered an incantation, I kept my hands there for a few seconds but the blood flow wouldn't stem and she seemed to get more lifeless by the second.

"God dammit! Come on! work!" I screamed and began to chant even faster, the gash was finally healing, thank god, but the process was slow and miserable and with every passing breath she seemed to grow paler and paler.

"Shit!" I cursed as I easily picked her up and spread out my wings, flying home.

"KUKAI! NAGIHIKO! KAIRI! COME IN HERE! NOW!" I yelled as I landed in my room, placing Amu gingerly on my bed, not caring about the fact that her blood was soaking into my sheets.

The trio immediately burst into my room but stumbled back a little when they saw her in that state.

"Ikuto…what happened?" Nagihiko asked, horrified.

"No time for that now!," I snapped, "Just help me heal her!"

They nodded and together we formed a circle around her, chanting a healing spell.

I felt beads of prespertaion form on my forehead as the spell began to take its toll on me, but I persevered on as I saw the color at least returning to her face. The wound slowly started to stitch itself up and when it was finally closed up, I sighed in relief and we all dropped the chant, the others looked as terrible as I felt. Despite only having ingested a single slice of cake and some hot chocolate in the last four hours, my stomach felt sickeningly full and I felt like puking.

"Why," Kairi panted, "Why would it take so much energy to heal a mortal?" he asked.

"I don't think she is mortal, Kairi," Nagihiko said hesitantly, then he closed his eyes for a second and opened them again, frowning for a second as he stared at Amu before gasping and stumbling back.

"What is it?" Kukai persisted.

I felt a sinking feeling in my gut and somehow I knew exactly what Nagihiko was going to say even before he did.

"She…she's an Angel," he breathed, "The Eternity Angel."

I felt my head spin even more and i had to prop myself up with the help of the wall. No…it couldn't be…she couldn't be. But that would explain everything, why it felt like I knew her from so long ago despite the fact that she was only sixteen and the fact that she could hide her aura from me, but still…I couldn't believe it.

"The Eternity Angel?" Kukai gasped, "She couldn't be…the Eternity Angel is always with the Celestial Angels and their not around."

"Yes," Kairi said grimly, "They are. The three other new girls today, I'm positive it's them."

I frowned, "We need to go and find them."

"No. You don't," a soft voice called out from behind us and I felt a strong wind hit us before we turned around.

And lo and behold, there standing before us were none other than the three new girls, looking exactly like they did when they introduced themselves to us. Except they had wings. Beautiful, majestic wings spread out from behind them.

They stared cooly at us for a second before they folding their wings away.

"Hand Amu over to us, we'll take it from here," the short girl, Rima, demanded as she stepped forward.

"Y-You guys," Kukai stuttered out, "Are Angels?!"

"Really? I never noticed before, how odd," the girl with long twin tails, Utau, deadpanned before walking over to Amu and placing her hand over her forehead, the spot she touched began to glow slightly for awhile before she sighed and her features immediately softened, a light smile touching her face as she took her hand off.

"She's going to be just fine," she said and all the worry I didn't notice on their face before melted off as they breathed a sigh of relief.

I couldn't help but feel relieved myself. Amu was going to live. She was going to be just fine.

"Thank goodness," Rima muttered, her frown breaking away for just a second to reveal a smile before it turned back to her usual stoic expression.

"Mou, Amu-chi had us so worried!" the ginger head said, her voice high and babyish.

"What the hell did you guys do to Amu?" Rima hissed, anger now obvious on her face after she was reassured that Amu would be okay.

"We didn't do anything, I found her like that," I snapped back.

Nagihiko placed a hand on my shoulder placatingly and shook his head slightly, "Why don't you tell us what happened, Ikuto?"

I sighed but obliged and launched into the story of what had happened.

The girls frowned after I told them the story, worry clear on their face.

"You said that there was a couple of guys around her, unconscious, were they mortal or Angels?" Utau asked.

"I didn't check, I was a little busy making sure Amu didn't crack her skull open on the concrete," I muttered sarcastically.

Rima looked like she wanted to punch me but she just took a deep breath and turned to Utau, "You know who sent them, mortal weapons can't harm us," she whispered.

Utau nodded grimly and even the sugar high girl's smile disappeared. They looked at each other solemnly for a second before Rima sighed again.

"Let's just get Amu and go home," she muttered, "It's been a long day."

"We can't move her yet, she's still healing," Utau said.

"Dammit, where are we suppose to stay tonight? We can't go home, it's too far away, if Amu gets in trouble we'll be too far away to help," Rima complained as she blew the bangs out of her eyes irritably.

"You guys are more than welcomed to stay here," Nagihiko piped up, "But, if you don't mind me asking, how did you even know to come here?"

Rima sighed, "We're all linked empathically, sort of, we can tell when the other is hurt or in trouble," she explained impatiently.

Kukai, who still seemed petrified by shock, cut in, "You guys are Angels?!" he repeated, obviously not over the fact and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, I get the fact that he's shocked, but seriously, he needed to get over it.

"Yes, we've established that fact, can we move on now?" I snapped irritably, my worry getting the better of my temper.

"Why didn't you guys tell us you guys were Angels?" Nagihiko asked, immediately diverting the topic.

Rima snorted, "Yeah, right cuz we go around telling every new guy we met that we're Celestial beings, now that's a real conversations starter. 'Hi there my name is Mashiro Rima and I'm an Angel, nice to meet you.' We'll be shipped off to an asylum."

"Touché," Nagihiko muttered.

"Well, since you guys do know now," Utau sighed, though she was just told she had to do a chore she really hated, "I guess it's time for formal introductions. I'm Utau, the Sun Angel."

"Rima. Moon Angel," the blonde chibi said curtly.

"Yaya. Star Angel, nice to meet you guys!" God, does she ever get off sugar high?

"And that's Amu, Eternity Angel," Utau said as she pointed to the sleeping pinkette.

"Kukai. Fire Elementalist," Kukai grinned.

"My name is Nagihiko. I'm an Air Angel," as polite as ever.

"Kairi. I specialize in the element earth," Kairi said as he pushed his glasses up.

"Ikuto. Water," I muttered disinterestedly, my eyes still trailing over Amu with concern.

"What are you guys even doing here?" Kukai cut in again, "On earth I mean. Aren't you guys suppose to be running heaven or something?" he asked.

"Nope," Yaya said, visibly more cheery after finding out that Amu was going to be okay, "That's a myth, we don't take care of heaven, the Keepers do, we're more like second-in-charge."

"And we like to go on earth because it gives us a more current update on the state of world affairs," Rima added emotionlessly.

Kukai opened his mouth to ask another question but was interrupted by a loud yawn from Yaya.

"Oops, sorry," she apologized sheepishly as she blushed.

Nagihiko smiled, "It's been a long day. Why don't we show you guys to rooms you can use for now?" he asked.

The girls murmured in agreement and followed him. Kukai and Kairi trailed after them too but I stayed behind, I was still worried about Amu, now perhaps even more so. She was the Eternity Angel, it would take a lot to get her injured like that, whatever happened to her couldn't be good.

I sat on the edge of the bed and brushed some stray bangs away from her eyes before letting my fingers trail across her cheek, "Amu, please wake up," I muttered and leaned down to kiss her cheek.

I hadn't planned to, my body just moved on its own, but it felt nice…and familiar.

I waited a few seconds, half expecting her to wake up after the kiss, but, of course, she remained motionless.

I sighed and stood up. What did I expect? Some fairytale whereby the prince would kiss the unconscious damsel and then she'll wake up and profess her love for him and they'll live happily ever after? I suppressed a snort. Yeah. Right.

Shaking my head, I turned to leave but froze in my tracks when I heard her mutter something.

"Iku…to," I immediately whipped my head around, thinking she had woken up but her eyes were still closed, she must have been talking in her sleep.

I smirked a little, she must have been dreaming of me, but then frowned again. She must know me. Why else would she have dreamed of me?

I needed out of here, before my brain exploded. I spread my wings out and flew out the window.

After half an hour I came back, only to find Nagihiko sitting on the bed, head in his hands.

"Fujisaki," I greeted, slightly confused and very worried.

He responded with bleary eyes and I scanned the room, immediately panicking when I realized that Amu was no where to be seen.

"Where's Amu?" I demanded.

His eyes darkened, "She's gone."

Amu's POV

I groaned as I woke up, I felt like someone had detached my head and used it for soccer before putting it back on. Needless to say, I was not in a good mood.

And this was before I got the phone call.

I sat up groggily and spotted a glass of water on the side of the table and immediately chugged it down. I felt much better after drinking it and my headache started to clear a little, but before I could revel in my momentary success, I started to process my surroundings. This was not my bed. This was not my room. This was not my house.

Where am I? How did I get here? Who brought me here? What was going on?

Just then, events from the past couple of hours came rushing back to my head and I groaned again, the headache was coming back, and in full force.

When it subsided a little, I gingerly spread out my fingers and tested my magic, smiling slightly when they lit up in flames. Well, at least my magic worked. I then moved them up to my head and began slowly massaging my temples, incorporating some magic to tone down the pounding.

I sighed in relief and laid back down on the bed, unintentionally taking in the scent of the sheets.

Midnight blue filled my vision and despite everything, I smiled a little.

"Ikuto," I breathed, then immediately caught myself, jumping off the bed like it was on fire.

Breathing deeply, I tried to calm my nerves, I needed to forget him. He is not suppose to be part of my life now. He can't be. I can't go near him anymore. We'll have to leave again, we'll have to move. I'll have to uproot the girls again and we'll move somewhere far away.

Tears pricked the corner of my eyes. I should never have comes back to Seiyo. I was lucky that this time I was the only person that was injured, if Ikuto, or Rima, Utau, Yaya, Nagi, Kukai, Kari, if anyone had been hurt…I could never forgive myself.

I was deep in thought that I jumped ten feet in the air when my cell phone started vibrating.

I immediately picked it up, "Hello?"

"Amu," a cool voice from the other end said and I immediately straightened up at the sound of the all too familiar voice.

My face lost all it's emotion except for a steely rage as I breathed in deeply to cool my temper.

"Diamond."
