Chapter 13: Memories Remain Part 3

Yaya's POV

When Amu cast the spell on us, I kept my eyes screwed shut. A childish move, I know, but I couldn't help it.

Spots danced behind my eyelids as the spell occurred, causing me to squeeze them tighter and I didn't open for a very long while.

But then, I heard laughter ringing around me and, out of curiosity, I tentatively cracked one eye open. I looked around and was shocked to find myself standing in a park. It wasn't a human park, though, as i saw two young children with pure white wings fly past me.

Where was I?

Shaking my head in confusion, I turned and saw an ice cream truck not too far away. My face lit up upon seeing it and I began digging into my pockets. I smiled when I pulled out a few crumpled dollar bills. Score!

I immediately dashed over and opened my mouth to order my favorite comfort flavor; green tea. I know, I know, the tarty flavor is not exactly how most people would describe something 'comforting' but it always helped me to relax, no matter how stressful the situation was.

"One green tea ice cream with nuts on top please," I chirped, except, I wasn't the only one that had spoken. A lower, huskier voice had rattled off the order at the exact same time I did, making me turn around in surprise.

"Kairi-kun!" I gasped as I saw the green haired teen smile at me.

"Hello," he greeted politely, "You're early, Yaya, for once," was that a joke? From the ever serious Sanjo Kairi? What's more, he didn't even use any honorifics with my name.

I didn't have much time to dwell on it, however, as he leaned down and gave me a quick peck on the lips, causing me to freeze completely.

He did it like it was a completely natural thing. Like we did it everyday…except, I hadn't known him until a few days ago, and we definitely haven't kissed since then.

He must've seen my shocked expression because he frowned worriedly at me, "Yaya, are you okay?" he asked as he placed a hand on my forehead to see if I had a temperature.

I laughed nervously and stepped away, "Perfectly fine!" I squeaked.

He frowned but didn't pry anymore as the ice cream vendor came back with our cones and he fished out money from his pocket to pay for the ice cream before handing the cone to me.

"You didn't have to pay for me," I protested.

This caused Kairi to frown even more, "Yaya, are you sure you're okay? You've always loved it when I treated you to things. And why are you being so distant from me?" he asked, hurt obviously reflecting on his face

"Maybe we should go see Amu, she may know what's wrong," Kairi muttered as he grabbed my hand.

I was too stunned to do anything but follow blindly as ears perked up at the sound of Amu's name. Suddenly, it occurred to me what was happening and why everything seemed so strange and twisted.

I was in the past.

And Kairi and I dated in the past.

Oh. My. Freaking. God.

I started freaking out even more as my breaths came in short, spastic intervals and not before long, the world started spinning around me. Then, the floor came rushing up towards me as the world turned black.

When I opened my eyes again, images flashed before me. Images that passed so quickly it should've been impossible for me to process them. But I did anyways. I saw everything, I remembered everything.

Kairi.

I gasped as I woke up, my breaths shallow and tense.

"Yaya-san!" Kairi yelled, immediately by my side and, despite the fact that it was cute that he was so flustered over me, I found myself annoyed that he had just called me 'Yaya-san'.

"Are you okay? Does it hurt anywhere?" he fretted.

I pouted, "It hurts right here," I said as I pointed to where my heart was.

This immediately set Kairi into a worried frenzy as he started pacing about the room, muttering to himself as he walked.

"This bad. It could be something serious. Maybe it's a side effect of the spell. But then again, I'm not feeling any pain, neither is anyone else. Why is she? Maybe the spell had a different effect on her. It could be affecting her health," he mumbled.

He then made his way to the door, "I'm going to find Amu, maybe she'll know why you're feeling like that."

I rolled my eyes but he didn't see it and he was halfway out the door before I called him back, "I know why it hurts, Kairi."

He froze at the sound of his name, but then turned to face me, "Why?"

"Because you called me with an honorific. I'm your girlfriend. You can't call me by an honorific," I said childishly.

Confusion was obvious on his face before it changed to relief and then embarrassment.

"I just…didn't know if you were okay with this after everything that happened," he murmured.

I pouted again and sat up straight, "Just get here you big oaf," I huffed before turning my head away and pretending to sulk.

He chuckled at that before sitting next to me on the bed, "I'm sorry Yaya," he said placatingly and I felt sparks go through my body at the sound of my name on his lips again, "Will you forgive me?" he asked.

"Not until you make it up with a kiss," I replied stubbornly.

He blushed at that (I didn't even have to turn my head to know that) before quickly pecking my on the cheek then lips.

"I'm sorry," he whispered and a slow grin spread across my face.

"Apology accepted," I said cheerily as I threw my arms around his neck before kissing him properly on the lips.
