A breeze tapered off right as those words left his lips. His father? What on earth would his father want with her she thought. So many questions poured into her mind. First she needed to know if he was okay.
" Are you hurt?" Ahri whispered softly as she stepped closer to inspect the arm he caught the pillar with.
"No, I am fine. I'm sorry you had to witness that. I lost it in there." Wolf's sad expression told her all she needed to know.
"Don't lie to me. No one could catch something that large and be okay." she spoke as she lightly touched his arm. Nothing felt broken. There was something there though. I slight heat radiated off him. It was power, pure raw energy. He must be filled with adrenaline from the fight. As soon as she tried to touch him again he jerked away.
"I'm fine Ahri" His voice was louder this time. With more authority. He walked back inside without even a glance to her face. She wanted to look into his eyes, but he was avoiding it. She followed him almost stepping on his heels.
"Is he okay Matriarch" Wolf asked.
"I have healed him. He will be fine when he wakes up in the morning. How are you?"
"I am fine." The Matriarch stared into his eyes. She knew he was lying, but Ahri could tell she wouldn't pry further. Wolf strode out the main doors of the building. Ahri followed him into a bustling city street. All she could see was angels, demons, fairies, and even a few minotaurs.
"Where are we," Ahri asked in amazement.
"The Town Hall of the Holy City." Wolf answered as he turned to her. " We have to go to a woman's place. She will help us further. I will also explain the situation on the way." Right as he finish a carriage pulled up. Wolf boarded the carriage without a second glance. Ahri followed still gaping at the city.
"It's beautiful," she remarked.
"It is."
Ahri stared out the window of the carriage to soak it all in. Every building was clean and had a peculiar glow to it. As if whoever owned it pour there heart and soul into maintaining it. The people that walked around all had smiles, or soft expressions. The street was small, but people stopped and moved for the carriage to make its way. Everything was clean and well kept.
"I want to live here," she joked.
"Humans are not allowed to own property in The Holy City, and only a select few are allowed to even know it exists." Wolf spoke softly as he stared out the window with her.
"So why me?" Ahri wondered.
"You were given your humanity. Not many beings are like you Ahri."
"So because I happened upon someone who could do that I am the key to this all?"
"No, you are the key because that particular someone wasn't actually a someone."
"Wasn't a someone?" Ahri looked to Wolf as she asked.
"What you happened upon was a thing." Wolf turned to meet her gaze.
"What was it?"
"A part of my soul that took a human form to hide till I found it." Wolf's eyes hardened
"Wait, WHAT!?" Ahri started to stand up in shock until Wolf stopped her. She sat back and wondered how that was possible. Wolf went on to explain that in rare cases. A powerful enough fragment of a soul can take shape till it can be found. Or in the worst case, fades away. All of this began to baffle Ahri and her mind wandered. If the old man Ahri had found was a part of Wolf's soul. How was she granted humanity?
"Ahri!" Wolf shook her out of her train of thought. "Were you listening?"
"No."
He scowled "I said the part of my soul that you found was what made me an Angel."
"So, do you have to take it back?" Fear hummed in her bones. She didn't want to go back to being a fox.
"No, if anything all that would happen is our connection would fade."
"So if one of us dies?" The fear began to seep into her voice.
"If you died I would die. If I died nothing would happen to you." Wolf's face lightened. Ahri began to feel guilty. She saw what he was capable of. It might have been only a fraction of it, but she saw enough. She is being protected by him for only one reason. Shes his weakness...
