The sun was setting as the carriage came to a stop. The rest of the ride was complete silence. Wolf's eyes never moved away from the window. Ahri was beginning to wonder if she had angered him. She could not tell though. His face was like a blank canvass, but his eyes were still a mystery to her. They were a bright blue. Exactly the same as a mid-day sky on a sunny day. There was something that threw her off every time she stared at them for more then a few seconds though. It seemed as if though a gold glow radiated from them. The glow seemed to move every time it appeared.
"Ahri, stay here."
"Why?" Ahri asked coming from her trance.
"This is not our stop." Wolf stood and gracefully stepped down onto the street. Ahri looked out the window to see if there was anything suspicious going on across the street. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary from the rest of the city they rode by. She listened closely to the conversation Wolf was having with the driver.
" Master Wolf I am sorry but I have been instructed to bring you here."
"By who?" Wolfs voice had dropped into a lower register so the driver knew he wasn't going to be asking again.
" I do not know... I was only given the place to which you needed to be brought to."
She heard Wolf's growl as he turned back to her.
"Get out Ahri. We seem to be wanted." Ahri stood and got out of the carriage. As soon as her foot hit the ground the driver commanded the horses to move. In a flash he had disappeared down the road. The sun had finally sunk below the building and the streets had begun to darken. Ahri felt a soft vibration on the ground as a light golden glow illuminated where she was standing.
"What is this?" Ahri looked to Wolf as soon as she noticed it.
"The bricks we stand on are enchanted to glow softly when people are standing on them when the sun goes down. It's kind of like the street lamps your world uses." To Ahri's amazement when Wolf took a step towards the inn the were in front of the glow stayed under him. Ahri followed him into the building.
Her eyes adjusted to the low light level inside the building. She heard low voices from the various patrons inside the Inn. The bartender was a woman. She had long blonde hair and her wings were the same color. She was beautiful, and the clothing she wore was very classy. She had on a dress that was relatively plain, but the necklace she was wearing looked expensive. Wolf strode straight to the bar.
" Ma'am I was told to talk to you about a man named Arthur."
The bartender smiled as he approached her. " Ah yes, Lord Wolf the 13th Judge, Arthur has been expecting you. If you go through that door he is, in the farthest room, to the left down the stairs." She pointed to a door off to the left behind the bar. Ahri looked behind her. A man had shifted a table closer. A very odd coincidence she thought.
"Ahri, let's go." Wolf walked into the door the bartender had pointed out.
Ahri took one last glance to the entrance. Something seemed off to her. She had no idea what so she just kept it to herself. As she entered the door she noticed the low lighting. A singular dim bulb hung from the middle off the hall. It kept the eerie feeling frm going away. Ahri started to walk faster to catch up with Wolf who was almost at the end of the hall. His strides were long and unwavering. As if though he couldn't sense what Ahri was. It made her relax a little knowing she might just be worrying to much. Wolf took a left and went down the stairs the woman talking about. When Ahri finally got to he stairs she felt somehting in the air shift. It felt as if though the air had grown thicker. Wolf turned to her and his eyes pierced through her. Then his mouth started to move as if though he was saying something and his hand shot up. She felt a strong force pull her down the stairs.
As Wolf caught her in his arms everything went black. At first she thought she had blacked out but she heard Wolf talking:
"Ahri...Ahri! Hey are you alright?"
"Yeah, I think I'm good. What happened?"
Wolf's voice lowered and got extremely quiet. She could barely hear him talking.
"I'm going to set you down. I need you to stay against this wall and don't move at all. What ever you see, whatever you hear. Just stay still okay? I can only protect you if you stay where I put you alright?"
She felt her adrenaline kick in as he whispered those words. He didn't wait for her answer and started to set her down against a wall.
"I got it. Stay put."
"Good" As he said that last word his voice faded as if though he had walked away form her. She felt the air get even heavier and she started to hear other people's voices
"What happened to the light?" A man frantically called out as Ahri heard his feet shuffle. Out of the pitch black she heard a low menacing growl. It made her shiver in fear. The air grew to an even more unbearable density. She was panting and struggling to breath now. The growl got louder and she hear a man cry out in pure agony.
"What's going on!" A woman yelled out from what seemed like the other end of the room. Then Ahri saw them. Two piercing gold eyes. They shined straight through the balck. They scared her. The look of pure evil in them made he squirm. She was trying her best to listen to Wolf's words. Just stay still okay? Ha. Easy for him to have said. All she wanted to right now was run for an exit. She couldn't see one. Then her thoughts trailed off as the eyes started to egt closer and closer. Like death creeping up to her. Then she felt a warm moist breath hit her in the face. The glow of the eyes made just enough light to shape a part of the creatures face. It was a wolf. The damn beggars had laid an ambush with a wolf. The eyes disappeared faster then they appeared and she heard the woman cry out. This time though it was right next to her. A warm liquid splashed onto Ahri's leg. She could only assume it was blood. She felt it start to pool around her hand. Ahri thought that she had been bit so fiercely that she couldn't feel the pain. Tears started to roll down her face. The eye's of the wolf appeared once again. This time they were worse. They had a satisfied look to them.
"Wolf?" Ahri cried out. No answer was returned. She thought for sure that this wolf had done him in. Kind of ironic she thought. That the one creature he was named after he died too. Then she felt it. A warm pulsating power creep over her tail. She tried to look and see what it was. She saw nothing there. As if though all light was being sucked out of the air. The warmth enveloped her legs. It was spreading. She thought maybe this is what death feels like. Strange, it never felt like this when she died in the league. She started to get drowsy. The eyes got closer and closer. Then nothing.
