Chapter 5

Quinn knew what she wanted. Which should have scared her a little but all she wanted is to treat Rachel better than her oaf boyfriend and make her happy. The more she got to know Rachel the more she saw a different side of her that she never saw before. She was beginning to fall in love with the girl she thought she once hated. She wishes she can take back every hurtful thing she has ever done to her. Just being around Rachel makes her want to be a better person.

But for now, Quinn had been reverting back to her HBIC attitude over the past few days considering Finn had not been subtle with his affections towards Rachel.

Well technically she wasn't back, she was done ordering slushie hits on other students, but she was not one to be mess with. It was the only way she knew how to deal with being basically rejected by Rachel for an ogre. Something she must have inherit from being a Fabray.

He was playing the perfect boyfriend, hoping his good deeds will ease his guilt and Rachel was buying into it all. It's not really shocking, since the brunette loved attention.

She had witness him showering Rachel with gifts, sweet gestures, and helping her get clean up after she get slushied. It was disgusting. It was typical protocol of what a boyfriend does after he cheats.

Despite his annoying display of affection, he has yet stood up for her against his football buddies to stop the slushies, maybe that's why he hasn't won a football game. He's always thinking re-active instead of pro-active.

It made her so angry and sick to her stomach watching him serenade Rachel in Glee everyday this week, with the knowledge that he had cheated on the brunette. What made her really sick was they way Rachel was just glowing as the tall oaf awkwardly performing his horrible rendition of Bruno Mar's "Just the Way You Are".

This is what he was doing right now.

Miss Del Monico surely would put an end to this soon.

Finn's overly gross display of affection was not the only factor to her bad mood, but Rachel was, yet again, avoiding her.

Also Coach Sylvester was killing her in practice since she found out her top 3 cheerios joined the Glee club. She has been so exhausted physical and mentally this week.

"Hold up, M.D.M. I did not sign up to be in a Shrek Musical." Santana said when Finn finished his song. "If gigantor sings one more time, I'm going to cut my ears off."

"I'm still mad at you," Miss Del Monico yawned from her position at the piano, looking like she just woke up when the song ended.

Santana frowned at her.

"But your right, Ken you sound awful."

Finn gave her a frown

"You're wasting our time. We need to work on looking good behind Santana's performance at Sectional."

Finn looked like some kicked his puppy and took a seat next to Rachel, who soothingly rubbed his arms.

"My name is Finn." He mumbled.

"And my parents didn't name me "Butter Wheels"." Artie added.

"That's not important." Miss Del Monico said not caring. "We still don't have a set list and Sectional is in three weeks."

"We already have Santana doing the solo. So I have come up with a way to figure out in a fair way whose going to duet." She grabs the hat off Matt Rutherford's head.

"We will be drawing names from the hat to determine your partner. I will choose the winner and who will have the Duet at Sectionals."

The idea was actually Mr. Shuester's, but Miss Del Monico didn't tell them that.

"Sorry Miss Del Monico, But I got in trouble last time I did it in public." Brittany said.

Miss Del Monico looked confused and Santana stared at her shocked.

"Britt, she means a Duet, where two people sing together. Not do it." Santana explained.

"Oh."

"We don't have time for games Miss Del Monico." Rachel shook her head yet again disagreeing with Miss Del Monico's method. "If we want a sure win, it would be best if Finn and I performed the Duet."

Quinn rolled her eyes.

"We already have a dynamic chemistry that audience will love and our voice blends well with each other."

"Oh please, it would look like watching a Godzilla massacre when Finn steps on everyone with his horrible dance moves. I think it's best if we just use him as a tree prop or something." Santana argued with her naturally.

"Finn just wasted all of our time, I didn't see you complaining." Quinn added raising her eyebrow at Rachel.

Rachel looked back at Quinn. She couldn't really argue with her, she did have a point even if she thought it was sweet but there was no time for personal romantic gesture even a self-observed person like herself can admit. So she turned away sharply in her chair and huffed.

"I think we should just chill. Our competitions are a retirement home of old folks and the juvie school for girls . I think we can easily take them." Mercedes said confidently.

Rachel shook her head in frustration. Nobody seemed to take her seriously.

"Enough, let's just put our names in the hat and let fate decide." Miss Del Monico said passing the hat around. "Even though you have a solo, Santana you have to participate so we'll have even numbers.

Santana shrugged.

After everyone had put their names in the hat, Miss Del Monico had Santana come up first to start it off.

"Finn?" Santana read on the paper while she had a disgusted look on her face. Finn looked at his girlfriend uncomfortable, while Rachel didn't think much of it, only that she felt sorry for Finn.

"Um okay…" he spurted out.

"Uh no, sorry finny boy, I like my feet."

Finn sighed in relief.

"That's fine, Santana. Finn you can partner up with Artie since his don't work." Terri said.

Artie shook his head while Finn gave him a dopey smile, relieved he didn't have work with Santana.

She tossed Finn's name has far away from her as possible and picked out another name.

"Mercedes?" Santana read and glanced at the girl and then shrugged her shoulders. It was better than working with Finn.

The rest pairing for the assignment were, Quinn & Brittany, Rachel & Kurt, Tina & Mike, and Matt & Puck.

000000000000000000000000000

"Hey Quinn."

Quinn turns away from her locker at the sound of her name from a familiar voice. She smiles as she sees a bubbly blonde bounce next to her.

"Hey Britt." Quinn greeted back.

"Do you want to come over after school today and get started on our glee project?" Brittany asked excitedly.

"Sure, I just need to check with my mom. She was saying something about dinner tonight, but she'll probably be okay with it." Quinn replied.

"Awesome. I have a lot of cool ideas." Brittany smiled.

Quinn nodded and smiled at the blonde. As long as the taller blonde didn't want to sing Paris Hilton, Quinn was pretty much okay to go with whatever the blonde wanted. She was only in Glee because of Santana, and wasn't planning to participate that much. She was just there as an extra body.

Yes. Quinn did like Glee sometimes. But she has other things she enjoys. Like Cheerleading. Reading. Being Top Honor Student.

Quinn looked down when she felt her phone vibrate; alerting her that she had received a text message. It was from her mom.

Just before she could read the text message, she caught Rachel and Finn walking down the hall. Apparently Rachel thought Finn was hilariously funny from the way the little brunette threw her head back with laughter.

He was acting like the perfect gentleman and it grated intensely on Quinn's nerves. So much so that she found it near on impossible to not tell Rachel about the Ogre's infidelity.

"Why do you look like an angry panda?" Brittany asked when she notice Quinn wasn't paying attention to her anymore.

Quinn turns away from the couple to look at her friend.

"Its nothing. But tonight, sounds great Britt." Quinn ignores the other blonde's question.

"I got to get to class, I'll catch you later." Quinn not waiting for a response, walked away from the taller blonde.

"How can she catch me?" Brittany wondered to herself as she watched her captain walk away.

"Maybe she's psychic. And I'm going to trip on something and fall, which I will be saved by Quinn when she catches me." The blonde smiled to herself.

"Quinn's a good friend."

000000000000000000000000000000

Quinn was currently spending her free period in the library, isolating herself from everyone while she loses herself in a book. This is a time she cherishes, when she was away from everyone and imagine herself far away from Lima as possible.

She usually spends her period in the auditorium playing with the piano but lately Rachel has been taking the auditorium to practice.

After their kiss, Quinn's has yet been able to talk to Rachel about it. Rachel was avoiding her and been spending more time with Finn than normal.

She sighs in frustration when she fails to pay attention to her book instead of thinking about Rachel.

Before she can pick up where she left off on the page, she hears someone clear their throat next to her.

She tears her eyes away from her book to glare at whoever dares to interrupt her.

"Can I sit down?"

Rachel was nervously fidgeting with her skirt waiting for the cheerleader's reply. Quinn let her eyes roam up Rachel's expose legs.

Even though Quinn was kind of mad at Rachel for avoiding her, she really did miss just hanging out with her.

Instead of answering the small diva, the blonde just push aside her books that were lying on the table to make room for her.

Rachel gave her a shy smile before taking her seat.

"I know that things have been awkward with us this week, but I want you to know that I'm sorry. I really enjoy hanging out with you but Finn has been putting a lot of effort in our relationship lately, and I feel like I owe him the same courtesy."

Quinn scoffed internally to herself.

"I don't really know where this was leading up to and I don't know what happen the other night, but I know that it can ever happen again. I'm with Finn and I love him."

Quinn didn't take her eyes off her book. It her heart clench in pain to hear what Rachel was telling her. She felt like she was getting the speech when someone breaks up with you.

"Every since I knew you, you've torture me, and made fun of me with your friends. I know you're not that person anymore. And I love getting to know a different side of you. A side of you I really enjoy. And really still would like to know. You're going to laugh at me but, I always wanted to be friends with you." Rachel continues even though Quinn has yet looked at her.

Now Quinn was angry at herself. Rachel will only ever see Quinn as the girl who tortured her. She felt so stupid thinking Rachel would jump at the chance to be in a relationship with her after years of torment. Rachel would never be able to trust Quinn. Right now, she really felt that she was worst than Finn. She really can't blame the girl. The concept of being in a relationship with someone that had bullied her for most of her high school life does seemed ridiculous.

"I want to offer you friendship, Quinn. I think we need to start slow and build some trust."

Ever since the incident between her best friend and Rachel's dopey boyfriend, she was so preoccupied with being angry at Finn that she forgot how devastated Rachel's going to be.

Quinn wanted so badly to tell Rachel about her other night, but she can never break a promise to her best friend. She knew what she was about to say to Rachel was going to hurt her, but she knew that this was something she had to do.

Rachel nervously waited for Quinn's responds

"We will never be friends." Quinn softly whispered, speaking for the first time masking a stern look, hoping Rachel would buy it and not argue with her.

She takes a chance to glance at Rachel and her stomach sunk even further as a wave of nausea overcame her when she could see tears forming in Rachel's eyes. It would something she told herself she never wanted to do after seeing Finn making her cry so many times.

She couldn't in good conscience start a friendship with Rachel, knowing that she has already been keeping something from her that she knew would devastate the other girl.

She quickly stood up from her seat before Rachel could question her. She had to get away from the other girl before she was going to break down.

In the small amount of time Rachel was talking, she felt so many different emotions. Rachel was the only person so far to make her feel that way. She was usually always so control of her emotions. It was a Fabray family trait.

000000000000000000000000000000

Quinn sat on Brittany's bed that night. Barely paying attention to her friend, who was exciting coming up with ideas for their Duet. She felt so horrible after her talk with Rachel. She felt like she did the right thing, but it didn't feel right.

"Quinn?" Brittany was waving her hand in front of the other blonde.

"Where you paying attention?" she asked when she finally got Quinn to snap out of her daze.

"Yeah, Britt that's sounds good."

"Okay, what's going on?"

"Nothing"

"You have that glazed look that Lord Tubbington gets when I talk to him about dogs."

Quinn raised her eyebrow. She never did understand her friend's unique relationship with her cat.

"You know you can tell me anything. You don't always have to go to Santana for advice. I'm also your best friend. I could be of help too."

Quinn felt bad. Every since they started high school and Santana and Brittany started getting closer, she always felt like the odd one out. Maybe she was neglected Brittany a little bit. It's just Santana and her were always out to top each other and weird enough that brought the two of them closer than her own friendship with Brittany.

"It's nothing, just stupid stuff about my parents." Quinn fibbed a little.

Brittany nodded in understanding.

"I think this was a good thing that happens. I mean people shouldn't just stay together because of their image. Maybe both your parent will be happier apart with other people. I know that sounds harsh but love is harsh."

Quinn really couldn't see her mom with some other guy, but her mom does seem happier now that her dad is out of the house.

"Thanks Brittany" Quinn smiled gratefully.

"No problem." Brittany gave her friend a big hug.

"So how about we kick every ass with some Britney Spears?" Brittany asked excitingly.

"Anything but "Baby One More Time"?" Quinn pleaded.

00000000000000000000000000000000

"Whezzy, stop texting Lady Hummel."

"I can multitask." Mercedes told her not looking up from her phone. "We are singing Beyonce."

"No, we doing Amy Winehouse."

"You're already doing Amy Whinehouse for your solo."

"She has a lot of amazing songs."

"So does Beyonce."

"Fine we can do "Say my name"."

"That's a Destiny child song, and Kurt says with your vocal we can't pull of a three part harmony"

"What three part harmony?"

Mercedes didn't answer her and continue texting.

Santana glared at her, frustrated she grabbed the phone from the other girl

"Hey?"

"As captain I like to have your full attention"

"Give it back" Mercedes lunge forward for her device in Santana hands

"No" Santana replied before going through all her text messasge to see what is so important, while dodging Mercedes attempts.

"Come on Santana!" Mercedes yell still trying to get her phone back.

Santana was reading the recent texts with a frown on her face.

"Satan? That's the best you guys can come up with?" Santana laughed.

"You even laugh like satan?" Mercede muttered finally getting her phone.

"Really?" Santana asked sarcastically.

Mercede didn't respond.

"At least I'm don't have a ridiculous crush on a ladyboy who is obviously gay."

"Kurts not gay"

Santana raised an eyebrow

"Look at the way he dresses. I hate to burst your bubble but you have a better chance with Mr. Shue."

"That's not true. We just have a lot of common interest." Mercedes said in denial.

"Yeah. Boys."

"Look, I don't know why I'm even here. My chances were shot at getting to sing at Regionals when I got paired up with you. It's not a good idea for you to have the solo and also the Duet as much as you may think, plus two girls singing together, Lima's not ready for something like that." Mercedes snapped at the Latina.

"Who do you think we'll win than?" Santana asked even though she was pissed that Mercedes was talking to her like that, she did have a point.

Mercedes shrugged while still texting to Kurt.

Santana pondered this for a moment before she started feeling queasy and dashed to the bathroom connected to her room.

Mercedes head shoot up from her phone when she heard Santana run to the bathroom. Being the gossiper that she and Kurt were they immediately dished on the truth behind the anorexicism happening inside the Cheerio's squad.

000000000000000000000000000

"What are you doing Kurt?" Rachel stop her rambling enough to notice Kurt was texting on his phone and not paying her any attention.

"Mercedes dishing about Santana. It's rarely anyone gets to see inside the devils house beside the Cheerios and her man candy for the day. We were wondering if that what hell looks like."

Rachel huffed.

"Despite or similar negative attitude towards Santana, I don't think that it is worth our valuable limited time we have. Instead we need to have our attention on this important task that will determine my future. Though I'm glad that I'm am not the subject of your gossiping that I know I have been in the past. However, this is the only other opportunity that I have to out shine Santana even if I have to share the stage. So I would appreciate you try to block out any distractions so I can have my reach my potential stardom. If your lucky I will mention you in my first autobiography after I become a Broadway star."

Kurt rolled his eyes, without looking at the brunette.

"Please, as much I love to be a footnote in your little book, we all know that Miss Del Monico is just going to pick Quinn and Brittany despite Brittany song choice that would probably be a horrible rendition of a Britney Spears, which it will be Brittany's choice because Quinn has as much disinterest in this club as you have with sharing the spotlight."

"That's not true, Quinn has interest in this club more than you think." Rachel defended.

Kurt raised his perfect sculpture eyebrow at that statement.

"I know you like to think Quinn will be your best friend now that were all in this club together and you going to ignore the fact that you stole her boyfriend, but the truth is Quinn hates you." Kurt said.

"She doesn't hate me," Rachel pouted. She knew the blonde and her were never friends but it hurt to hear the blonde say it out loud. Has tried to pass it off that Quinn was just upset with her.

"And I know that she is completely over Finn." Rachel said confidently as she remembered the night the shared a magical kiss, despite her betrayal, Quinn was a very good kisser.

Kurt had gone back to her phone and completely shut Rachel out. Rachel sat on the edge on the bed and sigh. Even is it looks like she wasn't going to win, she'll never give a performance nothing short of spectacular.

000000000000000000000000000

Quinn opened the door to our house quietly trying not to wake her mother. She was out later than she should have been, an occurrence that always happens when she was at Brittany's house.

"Quinnie?"

Quinn stop in her track from the bottom of the stairs and turn towards the living room where it look like her mother had falling asleep waiting up for her.

"Mom, i'm sorry. I didn't realize it was getting late." Quinn apologize before her mother could reprimand her.

"Quinn, you didn't call or text me back where you were going to be. I was worried sick." Judy said exasperated.

"Mom, i said I was sorry." Quinn reasoned. She wasn't use to this question game. When her parents were together, they barely notice anything she was doing and barely said two words to her. If she was caught, she received the infamous disappointing glare that was way worse than any lecture.

"I was able to find time for us to actual sit down and have dinner with each other, and you didn't even give me the courtesy of a call." Judy said frustrated.

"Well i'm glad you finally found time for us." Quinn replied sarcastically.

"Quinnie, I'm trying really hard for you to trust me again. I will never stop trying. But I'm still your mother and you will not act this way towards me." Her mom promised.

"Yes mam." Quinn said.

Quinn did feel bad about her actions. She had seen how hard she was trying to mend their relation and this family after her father has cause so much disarray.

"Okay." Judy sighed.

000000000000000000

Even though Rachel was hurt that Quinn declined their friendship, she had to get the blonde's help in order to be able to perform in Regionals.

"Hey Quinn," Rachel greeted her at her locker, scaring the bejesus at of her.

"Rachel! You scared me. Give a girl a warning or do I have to teach you etiquette of how to greet someone properly." Quinn said.

"I promise you, I am well in dowed with all things etiquette that even the Fabrays would be proud."

"The Fabrays' are very hard to impress Miss Berry." Quinn couldn't help flirting with Rachel forgetting all the drama with Finn and Santana.

"I can imagine, I could impress at least one Fabray." Rachel flirted back. Like Quinn, Rachel felt so free and natural when she talk to the blonde.

Quinn raised her eyebrows and Rachel couldn't help but bite her lip at her.

"You been avoiding me since that night and i declined you offer of friendship just yesterday, so this has me questioning your motive of initiating a friendly conversation with me."

Rachel smiled at the blondes articulate but accusing statement. It was a new but amazing feeling to have a conversation that didn't include hot dogs or the latest video game.

"No motives." Rachel denied. "I respect your decision of us not being friends. I declined your..." rachel leaned in and whispered. "romantic motives..."

"I didn't..." Quinn was shaking her head trying deny Rachel accusation.

"...and you in return denied my friendship. So were even." Rachel said.

"Then why are you here?" Quinn asked.

"Well I was trying to help you get out of performing today because I know how you don't want to sing or make any effort in Glee especially one that would have you perform for Regionals in front of hundreds of though I personally would love to hear your voice, i know you would rather just hide in the back burying your head in a good book and for public performance just sway in the background."

"How thoughtful of you of respecting my wishes and not pursue this friendship. Even though that sounds like something a friend would do, which I would have to declined. And I also know there's a selfish reason behind this action."

"It's not selfish if you do not get anything in return." Rachel explained.

Quinn raised her eyebrows.

"What is it that you want?" Quinn said cutting to the chaste.

"I would like volunteer to take the Duet with Kurt and prevent any embarrassment to any our teammates. We just have to find a way to get Kurt and I to win the Duet's competition."

"Rachel, one performance is not going to derail your dreams of Broadway." Quinn said.

"That maybe so, but Quinn, any opportunity to show the world or this school that I more than a tiny, loud mouth Jew with two gay dads. That I'm going to be somebody when I leave this town." Rachel said.

Quinn sighed. She knew this was the part where Rachel would start to pout. Honestly, Rachel was the only one worthy of getting a solo. Maybe she couldn't give Rachel friendship but she owe her this for treating her so horribly in the past.

"I will sabotage mine and Brittany's performance if you stop Finn from all the singing and serenading in Glee. And tell him to stop with the lame gifts, and no kissing in the hallways. Or touching..." Quinn subconuisly ranted.

Rachel found this amusing.

"You're jealous." Rachel stated with the biggest grin on her face.

Quinn eyes widen when you realize what she was doing.

"No..no. Of the Orge? No way..it's just disgusting..." Quinn denied.

"You're cute." Rachel smile stopping the blonde to deny it.

Quinn blushed.

"So, do we have a deal?" Quinn said quietly slightly embarrassed.

"I will talk to Finn toning it down." Rachel agreed. "Can me at least hold hands?" Rachel joked.

"Whatever." Quinn said with fake interest.

Quinn closed her locker and started to walk away from the petit brunette.

Rachel was subtly watching the blonde walk away from her when she notice Quinn had turn around and made her way to her.

"On second thought, no hand holding." Quinn told her.

"Get out of here." Rachel smiled. She amusingly shook her head and the blonde's silliness.

00000000000000000000000

"We are so going to win Quinn, Britney Spears always wins." Brittany said excitingly.

"Yeah, Q, there's no way I'm winning with wheezy over here. So you better make my girl happy and win this so the Cheerios can take over Sectionals."

"I can't help the way Miss Del Monico will vote guys." Quinn said nervously.

Quinn is definitely feeling guilty right now. Her longest best friends are counting on her to win this performance but she had already made a deal with Rachel, who as she can see was keeping her word as she swatted away Finn's gigantic arms as it tried to come over her shoulder. Rachel looked up from the front row back to give and gave her tiny smile.

She had focus all her attention on how hurt Rachel was going to be when truth came out about Santana's and Finn's infidelity that she keeps forgetting that Brittany would be devastated also. Brittany was one of her best friends but she had already made a deals with the little brunette. They both seem like they wanted to win more than anything. Could she really sabotage her's and Brittany's performance?

Before she could make up her mind about the situation she had gotten herself into, Miss Del Monico had arrive.

"Alright, let's get this over as soon as possible. I guess we can start with the prettiest to the ugliest. So Quinn and Brittany, you'll start us off."

"Oh yeah." Puck agreed leering at the girls.

Quinn stood up nervously while her partner copy her moved but with more enthusiasm.

Their song choice was Britney Spears, "Oops! I did it again." Which in Quinn's opinion they should lose for that reason alone, but knowing Miss Del Monico that won't be the case.

A soon a the song started and the two girls were performing Rachel was watching closely for Quinn's big move. At first she thought she would makes a obvious mistake, like falling down or messing the words up, Rachel remember Quinn's not that stupid.

They song was close to ending and despite the lame song choice Brittany and Quinn's performance was not bad. The dancing was amazing. She was getting angrier when she realize that the blonde was not going to hold up her end of the deal and had blatantly lied to her. She huffed her seat and shot the blonde an angry glare.

As they finished their number, Quinn was afraid to look Rachel. She already know the other girl was angry but she couldn't do that to Brittany. All trust that was forming between the two girls has demolished in less than 4 minutes.

In the back of her mind she should of been happy that they brunette didn't trust her so they wouldn't have a chance of any friendship being formed because of the cheating scandal she knew the brunette would be ten times more angry if she found out that she knew about while trying to be her friend. That was way more of a betrayal to Quinn then this Duet competition. In this situation she was only hurting one girl not two.

00000000000000

Quinn was surprised how good everyone was in the group besides Finn of course. But it was obvious to her that Rachel and Kurt should win.

"Well I didn't fall asleep so you guys were at least some what entertaining me. I think we have a chance at Sectionals." Miss Del Monico said.

Everyone smile and clapped feeling good about their chances.

"I could lie and tell you this was hard decision for me but I think it's obvious, we should have pretty people on stage so are winners for the Duets competition is Quinn and Brittany." Miss Del Moncio announced proudly.

"Yes. Suck it." Brittany said.

"Good job Quinn," Santana clapped smiling at the blonde proudly.

Quinn gave her fake smile before looking at Rachel who stood furious.

"That's totally unfair, Miss Del Monico. You just ruined all of her chances..." Rachel started her tirade.

Santana rolled her eyes blocking everything the tiny brunette was saying.

"Kurt and I were the best singers today and you know it. You playing favorite to the Cheerios..." Rachel continued.

When she finished yelling at Miss Del Monico, she turn in her heels to Finn and gave him a big, sloppy kiss while staring at Quinn.

Quinn sat there with her jaw on the floor after she witness the disgusting display. She wouldn't imagine Rachel behaving that way in front of everyone.

After Rachel was done, leaving Finn in a daze haze, she stormed out of the room.

"Midget has gone crazy." Quinn heard Santana snickered.

"I think I'm gonna finally going to get some from Rachel." Finn said not too subtly to Puck. Selfishly not thinking about Rachel and only thinking about his own needs and taking advantage of the emotional brunette.

"Angry sex is hot, dude." Puck shared a high five with Finn.

Quinn's heart sank to her stomach. What did she do?

00000000000000000000
