The Promise

Chapter 7: Illness

I realized that I skipped chapter 5, so chapter 6 is 5 and 7 is 6!

Kanda lay on the ground meditating after a long practice with Mugen. After his mind and muscles were relaxed he stood up and started home. Upon entering he was tackled by his ever loving father, Tiedoll.

"Yuu-Chan! Where've you been all day? You couldn't have possibly trained that long! You're going to hurt yourself." The man with kind, worried brown eyes cried out.

"Don't. Call. Me. That." The boy had a very childish scowl on his face. Tiedoll just ignored it, though.

"But it's your name Yuu-Chan!"

"At least drop the -Chan! You're not even Japanese!" he yelled.

"You're no fun, Yuu!" The old man whined.

"And to answer your question, Yes, I was training; No I'm not going to hurt myself, I'm smart about it." At that the boy stomped off.

"Poor boy has become so bitter these last three years." Tiedoll muttered under his breath then sighed and went to his study.

*****Kanda's POV****

Oi, Old man,

I'm going into the town. I'll be back soon. I'm taking Moa with me; See ya later.

Kanda

I left the note for Tiedoll and left for town. I needed new clothes so I could train better, but Allen's house is in the middle of freaking nowhere. In the back of my mind I hoped to see the boy, but I knew I wouldn't; He's the prince after all.

"Kanda, why is your not father coming?" Moa asked.

"I don't want that old man on my back all the time." I said making my way through the gates of the town. There were many people here. In the corner of my eye I saw a man being dragged off into an Alley way. Sneaking away from Moa I follow.

"Let me go!" the man cried out. A burly man was dragging him away so I ran up and kicked his shin. I grabbed the man's arm and ran him to an abandoned house.

"Thanks kid, I owe you one." The man sighed. He was pretty beat up. He had black hair and kind of resembled Mr. Walker. "What's your name?"

"Kanda; why were they taking you away?" I asked bluntly.

"That really isn't your concern, but it's because I refused to go to on the family trip! They've been chasing me for over two years now! I am not going back to that evil king, Cross! We're half brother and I'm sad to admit that. He's taken a huge interest in alcohol and women. Once while drunk he thought I was a lady!" The man shuddered. "They just won't give up though! Trying to take me by force; sending Tyki after me." The man let loose a few tears of frustration. I sweat dropped at his behavior. He was definitely strange. "I wanted to return to my real family but I found out my brother is dead, and there's no telling where my nephew is now." He curled up in the corner and I could practically see the mushrooms growing.

"Who are you?" Becoming serious again he turned to me and stuck out his hand.

"I'm terribly sorry, I've forgotten to introduce myself; I'm Neah Walker." My eyes widened at his declaration.

"Neah Walker? Is your brother Mana Walker?" He dropped his hand when I didn't grab for it. His expression became grim.

"Yes, did you know him?"

"Yes, and I know your nephew, too. I lived with them until Mr. Walker passed." We both stood in silence.

"Was he suffering?" Neah said quietly looking at the ground.

"No, he was happy. Glad to have Allen. My father told me he died peacefully." At that Neah let out a small smile.

"That's good." He then had a look of realization, "Wait, you said you knew my nephew! Do you know where he is now? I gave him a heart attack last time I saw him! All covered in blood and such."

"You've seen him? How is he? Did they hurt him?" Instantly I was jumping him with questions.

"Whose they?" Neah asked confused.

"The king and everyone else in that damned castle!" I was desperate for an answer and grabbed the injured man by the collar, "Now answer me!"

"Look kid, that was two year ago, I haven't seen him since then. Why is he in the castle?"

"When Mr. Walker died they kidnapped him to be king. I haven't seen him in four years." I let go of his collar and sat back down.

(AN: Cookie Break, NOM NOM NOM)

"Damnit! Why would they take him to that pedophile Cross? I'm his uncle!"

(AN: I ran out of cookies, so I need another cookie break)

"Cross is a pedophile? You don't think he'd touch the Moyashi, do you?" Suddenly very worried I forgot he wouldn't know who or what a Moyashi was. "I mean Allen."

"He better not! I'll go save him now! But wait, then I have to go back to my family. They punish me for evading them." He started having an internal argument. "My nephew needs me, but they'll have me close to death if I go back, then I can't help him anyways." He was mumbling after that and I could no longer make since of his words.

"I'm getting him back." I interrupted his self conflict. I'm going to become a knight so I can get him back." I stated confidently.

"But it can take decades to become a knight! My poor nephew will be king by then and won't be able to escape!"

"I bet I could get there in less than ten years." I smirked at his doubtful expression.

"How's a kid going to get in?" my smirk only grew wider. A dark evil aura formed behind me.

"Are you insulting my abilities?" I slowly reached for Mugen. Neah looked panicked for a little bit before he started apologizing and begging for forgiveness.

"Also I was wondering, how come that guy went down when all you did was kick him in the shin? I fought with him for almost an hour and he wasn't even hurt!"

"I broke his shin bone in half." I stated simply.

"Why'd you help me?" Neah asked curiously.

"For Allen." I once again stated simply.

"But you didn't know I was related to Allen." He said confused.

"You're right. But Allen wouldn't want anyone to be in trouble like that; He'd be upset if he knew I didn't try to help." At that I started out the door. Neah had a surprised look on his face before he smiled warmly.

"Thanks Kanda, and tell Allen I said thank you when you see him. Can you give this back to him? I had it cleaned." He handed me a white handkerchief with black M.W. initials on it. I recognized it as Mr. Walkers.

I walked into my house with my head throbbing. "Tiedoll I'm back."I called out exhausted. It was a whole day to the town and a whole night back. I expected Tiedoll to come jumping on me talking about how much he missed me but there was only silence. "Hey, old man, you here?" I walked back to his room and he wasn't there. I made my way towards the study. The door wouldn't open all the way so I looked around the door I didn't see him standing in there. I squeezed through to see what was blocking the door.

It was Tiedoll.

"Old man, what're you doing on the floor?" I asked crouching next to him. Looking closer I could see blood out of the corner of his mouth. "Hey Tiedoll this isn't funny, get up!" I yelled at him. He didn't budge. "Tiedoll, wake up! Dad, get up!" I shook him furiously.

Moa ran in to see what was going. She gasped and crouched next to me and my father. He eyes had finally opened slightly.

"Yuu?" He said questioningly.

"Who else you moron?! What happened?" I semi- yelled and he flinched. I calmed down a bit, "What's wrong?"

"I'm not sure." He started coughing again spiting up a bit of blood. "I just had a little cough, but over a few hours it got worse. Then I became really dizzy so I decided to set out to town. That's all I remember." He said weakly.

"I'll go get you a doctor." I said determined.

"No, Yuu. That's alright. It'll blow over in a few days." He started coughing roughly again.

"Yeah right Old Man. I'll be back tomorrow morning."

I walked the streets of the town looking for a doctor. Turning the corner I saw a boy who looked to be from somewhere else. He was carrying several medical books. He was wearing a green half shirt and had his arms wrapped in white; He was wearing white shorts with an orange-ish belt.

"Oi!" I called out to him. The boy only looked a year or two older than me but maybe he would know where to find a doctor. He turned to me and the first thing I noticed was his intelligent eyes. They practically screamed 'Look at me! I'm a smarty pants!' I smirked as he hummed in response, "Do you know where any doctors are around here?

"I'm a doctor." He replied quickly, his brown eyes lighting up. I gave him a doubtful look. His face suddenly got bright red, "I-I mean I'm almost a doctor. I'm qualified though I really am." He corrected.

"Well I guess you'll have to do. My father's sick will you come back with me? It's a night's walk." He looked so excited.

"Sure! Let me go tell my sister!" He ran off excitedly and I followed him.

We arrived at a wealthy mansion like house. "You live here?" He nodded.

"Well I work here, and for my job I stay 24/7." He smiled and then led me through the halls looking for his sister.

"Mina! Guess what! I'm going to go on a house call!" He cheered to a girl who looked a few years older than us.

"Where? Narain you know you can't just leave without the master's permission." He scolded him lightly eyeing me suspiciously. "Who's this?"

"He's the one who needs me to come to his home. His father's sick. His name is… What is your name?" I rolled my eyes.

"Kanda."

"Yes, his name's Kanda." He smiled brightly.

"Alright, I'll do both of our jobs today, When will you be back?" she looked at me for the answer.

"If we leave right now then he should be back by afternoon tomorrow." I said, giving a few hours for him to look after Tiedoll.

"Come home soon. Good luck with your first real job!" She hugged him.

"Alright Sis, don't forget to take the medicine I gave you!" He kissed her cheek and we headed out the door.

We headed towards my home.

"Moa, I've brought the doctor." I called out to the seemingly empty house.

"Are you sure this is your house, its kinda quiet." I was about to yell of course at him when I heard sniffling and footsteps.

"Moa is that you?" She came out of the hall with red eyes and a tear stained face.

"Oh Kanda!" She sobbed and hugged me. Not knowing what to do I just put my arms around her.

"What's wrong Moa?" She cried harder. "Narain my father is in the room down the hall second door to the right most likely. I'll be in there in a little bit."

Moa spoke out, not quite audible. "What was that?" I asked as Narain started towards the hallway.

"Tiedoll is dead." She cried even harder. MY face lost all emotion. Narain stopped walking for a second stunned and then he ran down the hall. I separated Moa from me and walked down the hall. I saw Narain standing over the bed. He was feeling for a pulse.

"No, you can't die! This is my first job, please don't die!" I forgot that Narain was only a kid. He was genuinely upset about Tiedoll. He began trying to bring him back to life by using CPR. He had tears going down his face.

"Why are you crying?" I asked monotonously.

He turned towards me with a heart-broken expression. "He really is dead. I'm sorry." On the inside I could feel myself shutting down. I turned around and walked out the door trying my best to keep my composure. When Narain turned to talk to me I saw him. He was pale and his warm eyes were cold and void of light. I made it out the door and then broke into a run.

He's not dead. He can't be dead, he's fucking Tiedoll. I'll go back home tonight and he'll be annoyingly happy as usual. He'll give me a big hug telling me he missed me and use my first name. Then I'll push him away even though when he is fatherly like that it makes me happy.

A tear fell threatened to fall. I blinked it back and kept running.

I'll go to sleep and he'll come wake me up in the middle of the night because he wants to draw me. I'll chase him around the house until I go back to bed. The next morning he'll bring flowers and apologize once again calling me by my first name. He'll give me another hug. I'll just let him since I'm too tired to react.

I came upon the forest. (1)

Why the fuck would he die on me? It's just not possible.

I pulled out Mugen and began cutting up everything in sight. (2)

I shouldn't have left in the first place. Then I could've gotten a doctor sooner. I would've been able to convince him to leave sooner. (3) I dropped Mugen down on the ground and fell to my knees.

*Flashback*

"Hello Yuu-Chan! I'm your new Dad!" The strange man with crazy gray hair and warm brown eyes gave me a hug.

"Don't call me that. And you're not my dad, just my guardian." I pouted. He looked crest-fallen.

"But Yuu~ I want to be your Dad! Please! Just let me think it!" He begged for a good five minutes before I finally gave in.

"Fine, I'll let you think that if you just stop crying and yelling! But I'm not calling you dad, what's your name?" He went from sad and begging to elated.

"Froi Tiedoll." He smiled at me and I almost smiled back.

Almost.

*End of Flashback*

I screamed. I'm not sure what at. Maybe God for taking all of the ones close to me; maybe myself for not being able to protect my loved one; it could've even been both. That one scream had a thousand pounds of pain laced in it. I felt my face getting wet as I wailed for my dad to come back.

"Why did you leave me? You were supposed to be my dad! Good Dad's don't leave their sons!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. And then my sobs got quieter, "Baka Otosan." I whispered. (4)

I got back up collected Mugen and started back to the town to find a new home, not wanting to go back.

"I'll see you again someday soon, Tiedoll." I said solemnly to the air. (5)

Allen's POV

9 years old

"Tyki if you don't hurry up I'm going to leave you behind!" I laughed as I made my way through the town. While looking back I accidentally ran into a boy a good five years older than me. In the process we both fell and my ankle twisted the wrong way. I winced in pain. "I'm terribly sorry!" I said. He looked kind of sad but mumbled an 'it's okay'. I went to stand but fell back down again.

"Allen is you alright?" Tyki asked helping me up.

The boy looked up and said, "Did you hurt your foot? Let me see I'm a-… I'm a doctor" He said sadly. I let him examine my ankle. "It's sprained. I'll wrap it. He reached into his bag and pulled out wrapping cloth.

"Why are you so sad?" I asked curiously.

He looked up at me and smiled, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. "It's nothing much. My patient I was supposed to take care of today passed away. I was just a little upset, mostly because his son went missing afterwards. The poor boy was upset. I think his name was Kanda." My eyes widened at the name.

"Kanda Yuu?" I asked.

"I'm not sure what his last name is. He was of Asian descent though." He looked at me confused. "Why? Do you know him?"

"If his father's name is Froi Tiedoll then yes." That means Tiedoll is dead now too. My eyes watered a little. Yuu must be so sad right now.

"I do believe that was his name. If you see that Kanda boy again offer my condolences please." He said with a look of pity on his face. I have to return home now." He pointed to the huge house behind us. "I'm sorry for your loss."

"Thank you. I'll see you another time." I said sadly.

Tyki and I made our way back to the castle. I didn't feel like walking around anymore.

"Who are Kanda and Tiedoll?" He asked.

"Kanda's my best friend in the whole world and Tiedoll is his dad. They lived with me before I came to this place."

"Do you not like it here at all?"

"You, Chouko and the other are the only reason I haven't run away yet." I said walking through the secret door by the west wing.

"I see." He said and followed me until we got to my room.

"Well Tyki I'm going to spend some time alone in my room, okay?" He nodded and bowed to me.

I closed my door and fell on the bed.

Where are you Kanda? Are you still keeping your promise?
