Chapter 4

Garu's POV

Watching Pucca twirl around in the water was a beautiful sight. Even though everything has been turned upside down and inside out for us, her grace and beauty was still a constant. I could still see her strength even though I've watched her cry. She never has been a weak person even when we were young.

I found myself smiling. I knew a long time ago that I fell for Pucca. Everyone does and has. She's thr sunshine that peeks through the bamboo trees. She's like the birds singing and you can't help but be happy when she's around.

I clinched my fists. But I went broke that god damn mirror. If I had been stronger.. She wouldn't be in such pain. It's my fault she can't smile like before or be as sweet and carefree. I need to keep reminding myself that this is the real Pucca, not the quiet, happy girl from before.

"You know you're gonna catch a cold if you stay in the water like that," I said without thought.

Dammit. She's enjoying herself, you idiot.

I heard a sigh of relief."You're right. I feel better now though. I'm getting o-''

All I saw and heard was a splash and Pucca was gone. I jumped up and immediately dived in. I saw Pucca struggling against something. It appeared to be some kind of monster made of black ooze. It's tentacle wrapped around her body and kept pulling down, hellbound.

I pulled out a kunai, making plans to cut through the creature. Then everything stopped. And before I knew it, both the creature and Pucca were gone.

I suddenly bcame aware of my burning lungs and quickly swam to the surface. I was gasping for breath and I looked around frantically. Where did it go? Where did Pucca go?

"GARU GET OUT OF THE WATER NOW!" I heard a voice holler.

I looked over my shoulder. Pucca's uncles stood there. Linguini's noodles were being thrown out and wrapped around my waist, jerking me out of the water and I found myself being slammed onto the lake's shore with great force. I grunted in pain.

"Pucca! Where's Pucca?! You idiot, answer me!" Dumpling screamed, grabbing me by the front of my shirt and roughly shaking me.

"Dumpling! Stop it!" Ho yelled, pulling him away from me.

I stood up fully. "Something is in the water.. It took her. I don't know what it was.."

They looked at one another. "The Demon in the lake..."Ho said." We knew it would happen one day.. I didn't realize it would be so soon."

"Do you think the seal is broken?"Linguini asked."The mirror may of been shattered but the seal on Pucca shouldn't be broken, right? There's no way that god awful woman was able to break it without the staff. She was trapped."

"What the hell are you talking about..?"I asked.

They all looked at me. Dumpling sighed."There are things no one knows about Pucca.. But it appears we may have to clean the skeletons out of closets. Sooga Village is about to fall into a very dark time."
