After Soda has left to join the Vietnam War, Darry and Ponyboy struggle to stay out of debt. But one day Darry gets a raise and a new position. He also gets a letter in the mail. Will this letter change Darry? How will this change affect Ponyboy? And will Soda ever come home? *warning in later chapters abuse and pony is 12 in this just cuz :p*

5. I won't speak

Ok! hello everybody and I am here with a well needed update! I am going to Oklahoma tomorrow AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

The birds chirped and the geese hissed at me as I walked around the lake. I was suppose to be at school but that's what Darry wanted me too do. Perhaps I should be like Sodapop and drop out! To bad I'm not old enough to drop out yet. If I could I do that in a heartbeat. But wait, If I don't do good in school then I cant get away from Darry! I have to do good. Would make him happy and maybe he would be nicer to me? I hope so.

I check the time on my watch to see it is 5:50, two hours before school! I quickly ran home silently cursing Twobit for messing up the clock on by the side of my bed again.

" Ponyboy Curtis!" A low voice yells at me as soon as I reenter my house.

"Hey Darry..."

" What on earth were you doing out this early in the morning! And you are grounded so aren't even aloud outside!"

" I know but-"

"I don't really care for what you have to say so if you were wise you would shut the hell up!" Darry practically screamed in my face. The words really stung me. Sure I have had worse thrown at me but to hear that from my own brother? I thought wasn't suppose to say things like that.

" Ponyboy, look at me."

" Come on just say something

"Look Pony, next time you take a ramble tell me first ok? I was worried."

"I sorry Ponyboy."

" Fine"

" See if I care"

" Go get ready for school you brat."

and that day forward I decided that their was no need for me to talk because my words aren't even liked by Darry.

During School was like hell on earth. None of the gang decided to come today so I was an open target for Soc. None of the things they said were as bad as what Darry said.

I wish Soda was here. Steve is drunk and a my house again. He slapped me a couple times so I guess it wasn't too bad.

Darry is avoiding me. I feel so alone, Soda were are you?

They bed feels so cold and I cry myself to sleep.
