Chapter 6: Logan's POV
I've been with the guys for a few days now, and I've been having a blast! They're so nice and fun and I've found myself being less shy. Sadly, my time is running down with them because I don't want to intrude and all of my things are at home.
As much as I don't want to go back, I can't burden them with my problems. I got myself into this mess and I have to take care of it myself. Besides, we're definitely going to keep in touch because we live close to each other and I don't want these bonds to go to waste.
I plan on going back home tomorrow, but for today, the four of us are going to have a fun day. First we're going to the movies and then we're going to go to the park, and at some point, we're going to get lunch somewhere and go from there.
After gelling my hair, I walked downstairs, where the others were waiting for me.
"Alright, everyone is here," Kendall said. "To the movie theater!"
We all piled into Kendall's car and headed to the theater, talking about what we're going to see once we get there. It was probably going to be something action packed because well, we're dudes.
"We should see zombie action teen 3," Carlos said.
Even though it sounds like a title to another stupid flick, the franchise is actually really popular, and very well made. I imagine this one only gets better, so I quickly agreed, along with the others.
We pulled into a parking spot and together, the four of us got out of the car and got our tickets.
"Someone come with me to the snack line," Carlos said.
"I've got to use the bathroom," James walked away.
"I'm going to look for seats," Kendall also walked away.
"I guess I will," I chuckled.
Carlos smiled and pulled me into the line at the snack counter. He was looking at his options.
"Hey Loges, if I get a large popcorn, will you eat some?" Carlos asked.
"They're like 3 tons," I said, amused.
"I know, that's why I need the help!" Carlos laughed.
"Fine, I'll help you eat it," I chuckled.
Over the past few days, even though I've bonded well with all of the guys, Carlos and I really hit it off. We talk all the time and we sleep in the same bed. Every night, it's cold so we cuddle and I get to hear his heartbeat, which lulls me to sleep. I really like him, but I wouldn't tell him that. I'd just like to build our friendship and have fun.
We got the popcorn and Carlos brought each of us a drink and we headed into the theater. Kendall and James were sitting next to each other at the very top, so that's where we headed. Carlos sat next to James and I sat next to Carlos.
"You didn't bring me anything," James scoffed, fake offended.
"Should've gone in line with me," Carlos stuck out his tongue.
"Well sorry that my bladder chose that time to produce pee," James rolled his eyes.
"Here, we can share the popcorn 3 ways; Happy?"
"Yup," James grabbed a handful.
"Uh, what about me?" Kendall looked over.
"Okay, four ways," Carlos corrected himself.
I chuckled at these three. The way they interacted was so cool to me. I grabbed some popcorn myself and waited for the movie to start. When it finally did start, we sat attentively, still grabbing popcorn once in a while.
Through the movie, the four of us would go crazy at the action of the movie because we loved it! Other people in the theater probably hated us, but we didn't care because we were having too much fun. Movies plus popcorn plus the four of us (mostly Carlos, the crazy one) equals bad.
After the movie was over, there was still tons of popcorn left…the bags are like almost as tall as I am. We got back into the car, talking about the movie all the way there, it really was a great movie.
"But the part when the zombie teen lost his arm, but then he took off that other guys arm and used it for himself," James said.
"That was my favorite part!" Carlos said.
"It was so sad when his daughter was crying because her dad lost his arm," I said.
"It was," Kendall agreed.
We reached the park, and James pulled a football out of the trunk. We went out to the field and just passed it around, so we'd have something to do. We did a quick scrimmage, Kendall and I against James and Carlos. I was informed that Kendall and Carlos on the same team equals rampage, since they're both aggressive sports players, so squaring them off should even it out…or make it worse.
James and Carlos won, causing Kendall to pout since he doesn't like losing…at all. It also resulted in him demanding a rematch. Considering that he wouldn't stop talking until he got one, we did a rematch and luckily we won the second time.
Afterwards, we went over to the playground part. I know what you're thinking…4 grown men on a playground, but hey sometimes it's good to go back to childish habits, just for a little while.
After watching James swing, for who knows how long, I decided that I was going to take a walk around the park.
"It's nice out, I think I'm going to go for a walk," I said, standing up.
"I'll go with you," Carlos stood up too.
I smiled, and we started to walk. I could see Kendall and James making faces as we walked away. They obviously knew that I had a crush on him.
"So, I assume you want to make movies like the one we saw today," I said, starting a conversation.
"Oh, you have no idea!" Carlos said. "It's my dream. The big thing is finding something that works and rolling with it."
"Well, from what I saw a few days ago, you're a great script writer and I'm sure you're an equally amazing producer," I said.
"Eh," Carlos shrugged. "You know what my number one fear is?"
"What?" I asked.
"I'm so scared of negative criticism," he said.
"Well, that's a part of the business," I reminded him. "I don't think you can escape it, but don't focus on the haters, focus on the ones that love your work because they make it worth it."
"You know, you're right," Carlos said thoughtfully. "Thanks Loges. So tell me, what your biggest fear."
"Well, there isn't much to fear anymore," I said. "I've already lost everyone."
"…What do you mean?" Carlos looked at me.
"I don't really want to talk about it," I said.
"Okay, but you have to have some fear," Carlos pushed.
He knows that something is weird about my life, he just hasn't pushed. I guess he deserves to be let in just a little.
"One of my fears is rejection," I said.
"Hmm," Carlos nodded.
"I've done some stupid things, and it's caused some of the people I love the most to reject me, and I just don't want to go through that heartache again," I explained.
"Well, I won't reject you," Carlos said. "You and I are friends, and I never turn my back on my friends. Just ask Kendall and James, we've known each other since Kindergarten. They won't reject you either."
"I'm glad, because you guys are really great," I smiled.
"We try," Carlos laughed.
"Logan?" I heard an oddly familiar voice.
I looked to my left where I heard the voice from and there was Chad, sitting on a bench. Oh crap! What is he doing here? How did he find me? I'm going to hyperventilate. Hold on Logan, just relax.
"Chad," I said uneasily.
"I was wondering where you went," Chad chuckled, standing up and walking over to us. "Who's your friend?"
"Oh, well this is my friend, Carlos," I said, obviously nervous. "Carlos, this is my boyfriend, Chad."
"Nice to meet you," Carlos said, holding his hand out to shake.
When Chad didn't shake it, Carlos awkwardly put his hand down.
"When are you coming home?" Chad asked.
"Tomorrow," I said, a little too quickly.
"Maybe I should leave you two alone so you could talk," Carlos said awkwardly, turning around.
"No!" I said, a little too frantic. "There's nothing to talk about. I'm going home tomorrow."
Chad had a normal expression, but I was looking at his eyes and he was infuriated.
"Okay," he said finally, giving a (fake) smile. "I'll see you then."
He kissed my cheek and then he walked away. I didn't relax until he was out of my sight.
"I don't like him," Carlos said when he was gone.
Yeah, neither do I. I find it weird that I don't like Chad, but I love him. It's weird but it's possible.
"Yeah, he has to warm up to a person," I shrugged.
"Why were you so tense?" he asked.
Carlos, stop asking me question that make me want to cry.
"No reason. Let's get back to Kendall and James so we can go get some food," I turned around and walked back in the direction that we came, confusing the hell out of Carlos.
We walked back in silence, Carlos deciding not to ask me anymore questions to my relief. We got to Kendall and James and then we headed to a diner so we could get some food to eat. Our conversation went back to the usual lightheartedness and then we went home.
Once we did get home, I hadn't realized that it was 5 PM. I didn't know that we were gone for that long, but the proof is in the clock. Carlos went upstairs to work on his scripts…I think I upset him or something when I pretty much ditched him after we saw Chad.
James freshened up and went back out with his model friends or whatever, and Kendall had to go to his restaurant to get some paperwork done, so basically I was alone right now and I decided to turn the TV on.
The later it got, the more nervous and shaky I got. Tomorrow I would be going home, and Chad clearly wasn't happy when he saw me today. If Carlos hadn't of been there, he probably would have dragged me all the way home today and beat the crap out of me.
I suppose I don't have to leave tomorrow, but I have to face this and I can't hide here with Carlos, Kendall, and James forever, especially for free. If I had a job and helped pay bills that would be different, but I don't so it's not.
I was actually shaking thinking about it. I seriously have to get out of there for good. Maybe I can call my parents and they'll forgive me and let me come back home until I can get on my feet, or maybe I could work with Kendall (after a lot of convincing Chad) and when I have enough, I can tell Chad that it's over and move far away. Both plans would involve leaving my new friends though.
I could just call the cops…nah, I never liked cops.
"Logan?" Carlos came down, looking at me concerned. "I came down to see if you were okay, you looked pretty shaken up earlier."
"I'm okay," I lied.
"You're shaking," he observed sitting next to me. "Please talk to me."
"I just…I can't," I sighed.
"Tell me what happened with your parents and go from there," Carlos urged. "I really want to help you, but I can't if you won't let me in."
"…I'm scared," I said finally.
"We'll protect you," he promised.
I think he had an idea, but didn't really want to accuse.
"Well…I was born in Minnesota," I said.
"So was I!" He smiled. "…Sorry. Keep going."
"Everything was good with my parents and then I went to high school and I met Chad. I didn't really know I was gay until I met him and we became a couple. After we graduated, Chad asked me to run away with him here to L.A. and my parents didn't want me to and we got into this huge argument, ending with me coming here with him. When I left, they told me that I was going to ruin my life with him and that they wouldn't help me, so that's when my relationship with my parents ended.
"Oh, Logan," Carlos looked at me sadly.
"When I first moved, things were good," I said. "I had gotten a scholarship to medical school and Chad and I got a house out here. Things started out great, and then we started to argue, and it took a toll on us and eventually I had to drop out of med school because we needed things to survive so that's what happened with my scholarship money."
"…What did he do about that?" Carlos asked.
"He became a drunk," I said. "He does odd jobs to get money and I didn't really leave much because I left all of my friends in Minnesota…my whole life is there."
I felt tears prickle in my eyes.
"We argue all the time," a tear fell. "I'm just tired of that."
"Is he hitting you?" Carlos asked eventually. "Is that how you got the black eye?"
I looked at Carlos, tears in my eyes. He looked pained to ask that question and genuinely concerned. I sighed deeply.
"Yeah," I nodded eventually.
"God Logan, why do you stay with him? He's got you scared to death," Carlos said.
"Like I said, my life is in Minnesota, I have nowhere else to go," I cried.
"Oh Loges," he pulled me into a hug, his chin resting on the top of my head and soothingly rubbing my back. "You have a choice now."
"What?" I asked.
"You're staying here," he said firmly. "I'm not letting you go back to that sicko."
"I can't do that, I have to face this head on," I continued crying. "That's what my dad taught me."
"I'm not letting you," Carlos said. "I care about you and I want you here, safe with us. I won't stop you from having fun and abuse you because I had a bad day. We'll care for you and help you through your bad days. You can get a job with Kendall to help us pay for the house and you can stay here, in my room with me."
"You would really do that?" I looked at him.
"It's not that I would really do that. I am doing it," he stated firmly. "I mean it."
"Thank you, Carlos," I smiled.
"We won't let him hurt you," Carlos said.
"I still need my other stuff though," I said.
"The four of us will go together tomorrow," Carlos said.
I nodded, burying my head in Carlos chest, still sniffling here and there. I needed the comfort. We were still like that when Kendall came home.
"Uh…" he started, noticing my tear stained cheeks. "What's wrong?"
"Logan is staying here with us," Carlos said.
"Good," Kendall moved to my other side. "I know that jerk hits you. I can tell by the way you act."
James walked in a few minutes later to see the three of us on the couch and looking very serious.
"What's going on here?" he asked.
"Logan is staying with us because his jerk of a boyfriend abuses him," Kendall explained.
"You mean he's staying here because his EX-boyfriend abusED him," James said, pulling me into a hug. "We got your back bud."
"Yeah, and you can work with us at the restaurant," Kendall smiled, also hugging me.
"Thanks guys," I smiled.
"We won't leave you hanging," Carlos promised.
"Never," Kendall and James said simultaneously.
I smiled, because I know that they would protect me. I was so lucky to have made friends like these.
"You guys are the best," I said.
