Chapter 8

We headed to Kendall's restaurant and parked the car. James decided her was going to hang with us at the restaurant today and help them train me. We all got out of the car and headed inside. Kendall and James walked ahead of us, but Carlos stayed with me.

"Loges, this is Donna, the hostess," Carlos smiled, giving her a hug.

"Hey Car," she ruffled his hair.

"Hey Don, this is Logan, a new employee," Carlos introduced me.

"Hi," I smiled.

"Hey, I can see us being great friends," she gave a warm smile.

"Come on Loges, I'll introduce you to everyone else," Carlos smiled, leading me by my shoulders.

We headed towards the back.

"Donna is really nice," Carlos said. "She's one of my favorite employees."

"She is nice," I agreed.

I nodded, but I was kind of jealous because of the way that they interact; it reminded me that I haven't known Carlos forever and that we aren't as close as I would like us to be. We headed into the back where he introduced me to a few other employees and showed me some equipment.

I remember a little from the other day when I came here with Kendall and Carlos, but I didn't know everything. Kendall popped out from a door, which I assumed was his office and handed me some clothes and a piece of plastic.

"Your uniform and nametag," he smiled. "Welcome to the team."

"Thanks Ken," I smiled back.

"Here, you can change in my office," he said, stepping to the side.

I walked in and he closed the door and proceeded to change into my new uniform. I looked at the green 'Kendall's Corner' shirt in the mirror as I put it on and I smiled at myself. I know it isn't much, but I'm starting over and taking my own path.

Hopefully, I'll be able to make enough here to go back and finish out my last semester of medical school, a dream that was deterred too long by Chad. I'm back and going to continue to be the old Logan, the Logan that I was in high school, minus the falling too easy in love, but I'm free to be me again.

When I was done changing, I was met with Kendall.

"Okay, first Carlos is going to show you what everything in the kitchen is and how it works for the ones you don't know yet and he's also going to teach you about most of our dishes, then I'm going to show you around the restaurant and make sure you know all of the rules and where everything is, and then James is going to be a mock customer and you're going to serve him from seating him, to taking his order, to making it, checking on him, and getting the bill, and then we'll come back here and do the paper work in my office for you to be official. It'll be a crash course, are you ready?" Kendall asked.

"Ready," I nodded.

With that, I began my day of training. Like Kendall said, Carlos taught me all about the kitchen, but he did it in a fun way. He has a song for remembering things and I just think it's hilarious and amazing. The other kitchen staff helped me too and I got to know some of them a little bit.

When Carlos and I were done in the kitchen, Kendall gave me the grand tour of the public and private areas of the building. I found out where everything was kept in case something needed to be restocked and we went over the rules and regulations that we had to uphold to remain open; if there's one thing I've learned about this restaurant already, I learned that it's very clean and it has its share of awards.

Kendall led me to the front and Donna stepped to the side and James walked in, like a normal customer. I glanced at Kendall and then I caught on.

"Oh, hey James, welcome to Kendall's corner, table for one today?" I said.

"Hey Loges, yep no date today," he said.

I nodded, grabbing him a menu and leading him to a table. He sat down and I handed him a menu.

"What can I get for your drink?"

"Um, a pepsi would be good," he said.

"Be right back," I nodded, heading over to the drink station.

I brought it back over to him to find that Kendall had disappeared.

"Are you ready to order?" I asked, ignoring that fact.

"Hey James!" I heard Kendall's voice.

"Hey Ken," James waved.

"I'm on break, mind if I join you?" Kendall asked.

"Not at all, I'd rather not eat alone," James said.

Kendall nodded sitting down at the table. I see what he did there.

"Can I get you a drink Kendall?" I gave him a confident smile.

"Just water," he said.

I went to get Kendall's water and then came back and took their orders. I took the orders to the back, where Carlos and I got to work on making them. When they were done, I took them back out, getting them whatever else they needed before heading to the back for a small break.

"I think you're doing great," Carlos walked over to me.

"Thanks," I smiled. "It's surely a busy job; I think I can get used to it."

"Good," Carlos said. "You might want to check on their table now."

"Right," I nodded, heading back out there.

By the time they finished eating and I gave them the check, I was feeling pretty good, I didn't think I had made any mistakes. Kendall stood up when I handed him the check.

"Logan, that was amazing," he complimented. "You handled us like an old pro!"

"I was happy to get free dinner, and it was really good Loges," James said.

"I try," I gave a smile.

"Come on, we have paper work to do," Kendall led the way.

I won't bore you with those details, but all I can say is that we rolled up to the house around 11 PM and I was exhausted. James and Carlos were the first to get out, going to unlock the door.

"You really did do good today," Kendall said as we walked to the door.

"Thank you," I smiled. "You have a nice business. I'm excited."

"I know it isn't your dream, but you can save to finish med school," he shrugged.

"Thanks Kendall for giving me a way; you've been a great help to me today," I said.

He only smiled in return.

"It's what I do."

I wasted no time in going up to Carlos and I's room, where Carlos was already in the shower. I waited for him to come out and when he did, I had to hurry into the bathroom to avoid his half naked and mostly still wet body. I think he does that on purpose.

Today was very productive and nice, but it felt great to just relax under some hot water and cleanse myself, especially after this morning. I dried myself off and put on some clothes before walking back into the room and plopping onto the bed. That's when I noticed for the first time that Carlos wasn't in the bed, but sitting at his desk on his computer.

"What are you working on?" I asked quietly.

"My script," he glanced at me. "This is my prime time for working on it. If it bothers you, I can go downstairs or something so you can sleep."

"No, it doesn't distract me," I chuckled. "I was just curious."

A few seconds of silence.

"So, what kind of films do you want to work on most?" I asked.

"Action," even in the dark, I saw a hint of a smile on his lips. "There's always something creative and original that can be created no matter what. The possibilities are literally endless as opposed to something like romance, which is pretty formulaic."

"Can I read it?" I asked.

"When it's done," he said. "Kendall and James ask me the same question."

"When will it be done?" I asked.

"I don't know," he shrugged. "Some nights I have writers block, other nights I can write like no other, but I want so bad for this to be finished and picked up."

"I wish I could help you," I said sincerely. "I know what it feels like to want something so bad. It's in reach and you're on the home stretch, yet you're so far away."

"What are the things you want most?" Carlos looked at me.

"To finish medical school," I said without question.

"You'll get back there, we support you," Carlos said.

"I believe that, I really do," I looked at the ceiling. "You guys are really all I have now."

"We won't let you fall again," Carlos promised.

I felt myself smiling, even though it couldn't be seen. I sighed before snuggling under the covers.

"Good night Carlos, write like the wind," I chuckled.

"Night Loges," he smiled. "Don't ever give up on your dream."

And I went to sleep with that last statement in my mind.

I know the Cargan is coming slow, but it's coming, I promise! Stay tuned! The next chapter is a small time skip!
