Chapter 11

"Why is it so early?" I asked.

"Because we have a plane to catch," Carlos chuckled slightly.

"Imagine how I feel," James grabbed his keys from the counter. "I'm not even getting on the plane and I had to get up to take you two there."

"You can always sleep all day," Carlos said. "You don't even have a shoot today."

"That's true," he shrugged. "But I love consecutive sleep."

"Consecutive…wow that's a big word for you," Carlos joked.

James punched his arm.

"Ow!"

"Guys, it's too early," I said.

They stopped fighting and we made our way to the car, putting our luggage in the trunk. James drove us to the airport.

"See you guys in a few days," he said as we stepped out.

We said our goodbyes and started walking into the airport. I looked back to glance at James and he pointed at Carlos before winking at me. I blushed before turning around. We got our boarding passes and went through everything we needed to and before I knew it, we were sitting on the plane waiting to take off.

"So are you going to tell me where we're going?" I turned to Carlos.

"We're going to Minnesota," he said.

My eyes lit up at the thought of going to my hometown, but I frowned when I realized that my parents lived there too.

"My parents wanted me to visit and I figured you'd like to have a nice vacation from everything and visit home," he said.

He looked at me, hesitating.

"Maybe…" he started slowly.

"No Carlos," I shook my head.

"Come on Loges, they can't still be mad," he said.

"They can and they are," I said. "I'm not doing it."

"Ok fine, no worries," he said. "We'll just spend time with my parents and do other stuff like go to the skating rink or something."

"Good," I said.

"Passengers, we are about to take off to Minnesota. Please fasten your seat belts."

We did as the pilot said and we were on our way. I hadn't even realized that I had fallen asleep until I heard his voice over the intercom again. Carlos had also fallen asleep next to me. The plane landed and together, the two of us stepped off of the plane.

I smiled stepping off of the plane, feeling the cold Minnesota air. Even though I was freezing my ass off right now in my short-sleeved shirt, it felt good to be home; I hadn't been back in so long.

We made our way into the airport and got our bags. I wasted no time in getting my coat out of my luggage and putting it around my shoulders.

"I forgot how cold it got here," Carlos chuckled.

"Same," I laughed.

We walked out of the airport and into our rental car, and then we were on the way to Carlos' parents house.

"My parents are going to love you," he said. "They're very accepting and they love to make anyone feel at home. They treat Kendall and James like their sons and they're bound to do the same with you."

The thought made me smile. I honestly hadn't experienced acceptance in a long time. I'm thankful everyday that I met Kendall, James, and Carlos. I was nervous though to meet his parents. I know he said I shouldn't worry, but what if I was like that 1% of people that his parents didn't like.

"…Don't think about it too much." Carlos finished talking.

I hadn't even realized that he was still talking. I was too busy in my own world. We pulled into the driveway of his house and he shut off the car. We got our luggage and walked up to the front door.

He knocked on the door and a few seconds later a woman, a little shorter than Carlos, but very close in resemblance opened the door. I assumed this was his mom.

"Mijo!" she smiled, hugging him and kissing his cheek.

"Mom," he chuckled.

She looked at me and smiled.

"You must be Logan," she smiled.

"Hi, Mrs. Garcia" I felt blush creep on my cheeks.

I was a little caught off guard when she pulled me into a hug.

"Don't be so shy," she said when she pulled away.

Carlos gave me an I told you so look before following his mom inside.

"Where's dad?" Carlos asked.

"Out on the run again," she shrugged.

"What does he do?" I asked curiously.

"He's the police chief," Mrs. Garcia answered.

"Oh," I nodded.

We followed her into the kitchen.

"Logan, would you like anything to drink?" she asked.

"No thank you Mrs. Garcia," I smiled politely.

"Don't be so formal," she laughed. "Call me Sylvia…or Mama Garcia," she said.

"Okay," I smiled.

Carlos grabbed himself a glass of water.

"So how are my other boys doing?" she sat at the table.

"Kendall wanted to come but so much has been going on lately with his restaurant, and James has some shoot coming up. He's getting big," Carlos explained.

"I'm so proud of those two," she smiled.

"Yeah…" Carlos looked at the ground.

"So, what about you mijo? I know you've been working on your script."

"It isn't finished yet," Carlos wouldn't meet her eyes.

I noticed how Sylvia was trying to be careful with her word choice. So Carlos' issues aren't so subtle.

"Don't worry mijo, something with come along," she smiled lightly. "You have the drive, just hold on a little while longer."

When Carlos didn't say anything she changed the subject.

"So Logan, Carlos has told me a lot about how you want to be a doctor?"

"Yeah, I've got about another year or so of school to do," I said.

"Wow, you're closer than I thought," she commented. "I thought it took 10 years of school."

"Logan's a genius," a smile played on Carlos lips, seemingly forgetting about his profession.

"I tested out of A LOT of classes," I said.

"I can't wait for Carlos to tell me that you've become a doctor," she smiled brightly.

I smiled back. Wow, she believes in me and she just met me.

"So, have you two started dating yet?" she asked nonchalantly.

I could feel myself turning dark red and Carlos spit out his drink, coughing and hacking.

"Mom!" he gave her a look.

"What? I was just asking!"

"We're going to go check out the town," he stood up, dragging me by the arm. "We'll be back for dinner."

"Nice meeting you Logan!" she called after us.

We got back in the car and Carlos started it.

"Sorry about her," he said.

"It's fine," I chuckled awkwardly. "Where are we going now?"

"You'll see," he winked, pulling out of the driveway.

We drove for about five or so minutes before pulling into the driveway of a house I didn't recognize. He got out, so I followed behind him. We stood in front of the door and he knocked. The door opened to reveal…my mom?

"Mom?" I didn't know what kind of look was on my face.

"Logan," she said breathlessly.

I looked at Carlos and then back at her, and then I finally decided to glare because that was all I could think of.

"You must be Carlos," she said.

"That's me," he smiled.

She stepped aside and the two of us walked in. I looked around the house that I didn't recognize at all. I guess they had moved to a completely different neighborhood without ever telling me. I looked at all of the pictures on the wall, seeing pictures of myself as a young boy and I didn't know how to feel.

Carlos was watching me; I could tell. He was gauging my reactions and how I was feeling about this and I'm going to kill him when we leave here. We walked into the living room to find my father sitting on the couch. He looked at me with a blank look.

"Logan, you're here," was all he said.

"Yeah…I don't know why," I said truthfully.

"I know you're mad," Carlos said. "I found them and talked to them before we left. I told them I was going to bring you by because you needed to see each other."

All I did was nod. I guess he was right, but I was still mad.

"Before we continue…are you still seeing that boy?" my father asked in disgust.

"No," I made a face. "He was an asshole."

"Did we not tell you that?" he asked.

"I know my mistakes dad," I looked at him. "You would've never known though. Neither one of you will respond to me or call me back."

"What did I tell you when you left?" my dad asked. "we didn't approve of the choices you were making so we had to do what we had to."

"So, when I'm having a hard time you decide to disown me and leave me to the wolves?"

"It's called tough love, Logan," my mom said.

"Love is tough…" I said. "That's for sure. If it wasn't for Carlos, I probably would've died out there."

"Again proving that we were right," Dad looked at me. "Is Carlos your new boy toy?"

I wanted to punch him in the throat honestly.

"No Dad," I said tightly. "Even if he was, why is that so wrong?"

"You aren't making clear choices," he said. "You're young and it's bound to happen, but you just can't love a guy and live a life like you plan?"

"You've never supported anything I wanted to do if it meant I was different from you," I said. "I've tried for so long to make peace with you, but just because I have a lifestyle you don't agree with doesn't mean you have to hate me for it."

"I don't hate you Logan," he said. "I just don't want you to be around if you aren't going to listen to me."

"Dad…I'm 23 years old," I said. "I'm an adult, I know how to make my own choices and I'm rediscovering myself."

"If you were such an adult you wouldn't have been crying to us every few months over that boy and that town and school," Dad raised his voice.

"I was growing up! I was trying to reconnect and show you that I was wrong and that I was sorry! At the same time I wasn't going to come kissing your ass just because you two laid down together!"

"Logan," my mom scoffed.

"Watch it," my dad said.

"No! If you didn't want me, why didn't you just abort me? I don't want to spend the rest of my life trying to impress you assholes if you're never going to give me credit for the things I tried to do on my own!" I said.

I turned around and ran out of the door. I felt tears prickling in my eyes and before long they were falling. I ran down the sidewalk, not really sure where I was going. I didn't stop until I had reached the park. I stood at a tree and I just cried.

"Logan…"

I turned to see Carlos standing there.

"How did you find me?" I sighed.

"Your parents told me you would probably be here," he said.

"Great parents," I rolled my eyes.

"Logan, they're trying…"

"Sure…"

"They love you…that much I can see," he said. "But I can see how their way of coping effect you."

He stepped closer when I started to cry again. He pulled me into a hug and I melted in his embrace.

"It's going to be okay," he whispered in my ear. "They're going to come around."

He pulled away and I punched him in the arm.

"Ow!"

"You deserved it," I laughed.

He smiled after that. I got lost in those chocolate pools like I managed to do every time I looked at him. My eyes scrolled from his perfectly spiked black hair, to his eyes and his lips, which I wanted so badly to feel against my own.

I felt myself moving closer, but I didn't register what I was even doing, but I didn't stop. I felt our lips touch, ever so slightly, and then even more. My eyes closed, feeling incredible sparks fly between the two of us. We pulled away and I rested my forehead against his.

"Thank you for trying," I smiled.

"Always," he responded, smiling back.
