Shanks was surprised when he heard a little girl saying the same things as the Pirate King. The surprise practically knocked him off his feet, but he held a composed expression that let the surprise seem mild.
"Oh?" he asked. Then Luka's words sank in.
"Then I'll become the Pirate Queen!"
"Wait... you're a girl?" he asked, staring.
Luka nodded.
"Why didn't I know that?" Shanks threw an accusing glance back to his crew.
"Because you didn't bother to ask," somebody on the ship replied.
"Uh, anyway," Shanks looked at Luka again. "If you're going to be a powerful pirate, you'll need this hat. Give it back to me when you're that strong."
Luka, the little girl he had befriended, nodded through tears. She clutched the hat to her head, hardly able to say a word.
Shanks smiled. If he understood one thing about this kid, it's that she would follow through with what he told her.
And she did.
