Chapter 31
Catherine woke up and for the first couple of minutes was disorientated as to where she was. Then she finally realised that she was taken half way through a mission. All she knew was that a couple of her team had been killed and for that her heart ached. But she was alive and whatever was happening she needed to get back to her kids and back to her family. She tried to move her arms but found they were bound behind her back and her feet tied together. She was locked in a small room with no sun light coming in. She could see another person in the corner of the room but couldn't make out who it was because it was so dark.
She felt a pain in her head from where she was hit over the head but that is all she remembered. Her ribs hurt but she was unsure what happened to them as she couldn't remember being taken only being hit over the head. She wasn't even meant to be close to what was happening. Only there for any intelligence they had gotten when they had finished the raid.
Meanwhile...
Steve and the team arrived at Pearl and after being security cleared and introduced they were set up in their own intelligence room.
"We have been given permission that we have full immunity and means on this case. I am in charge of this operation so there are three things we need to do. Firstly, find out who has taken Catherine and Ensign Lewis, secondly, we have to find out where they are and where they are being held and finally, we need to make a plan for extraction for when we find them." Commander Gutches said, he was given the lead and knew that he needed to say that mainly for Steve.
"Sir, where do we start?" Steve asked.
"You and your team along with 2 intelligence officers are going to find out where they could be. Me and SEAL team 5 are going to make a plan for extraction and finally Joe White is coming in and is going to take some time to find out who has taken them and will help you and your team to find out where they are." Gutches said.
Steve and his team moved over to a corner of the room, to start looking at where the mission was and where they could have taken them.
"Ensign Wright." Gutches said.
"Sir." Ensign Wright replied
"You and Ensign Langley are working with Lieutenant Commander McGarrett, I know he is your commanding officer but anything that he tries to do that you don't think is a good idea you come and tell me." Gutches said, he knew that there was a chance something could happen with Steve, ideally he wouldn't have allowed Steve to be this close but he had no choice, he just had to reduce the chance of Steve doing something.
"Sir." They both replied turning and walking away.
"The mission was set to take place in a little village outside Afghanistan. They were set to go into a building and they were expected. How they know this we don't know but it was heavily trapped and then the few people in their started firing. According to statements from the team survived said that they think they took out all of them and Lieutenant Rollins was not near the building." Ensign Langley told them.
"What was the mission for?" Danny asked.
"That's classified." Steve said.
"Of course." Danny sad sarcastically.
"Kono and Ensign Wright, I want you to find out if there was any air traffic in the area at the time because anything that happened was fast. Chin and Ensign Langley I want you two to have a look at any head cam footage and see if you notice anything out of the ordinary. Me and Danny are going to Tripler because some of the team are being flown there and it's landing in about 10 minutes." Steve said checking his watch.
Meanwhile...
Malia was in the kitchen making something for them to eat. All the kids were quite, they had all sat down on the sofa watching TV and not talking to each other. Malia had only met the kids a couple of times but they had always been livelier than this. She knew in the circumstances this was what would be expected but they weren't even saying anything to anyone.
Malia was unsure what to do and what to say. She knew what to say when the people were patients but these were closer. These were part of the Ohana and this was personal, Cath had become a friend and if something happened to her she wasn't sure how they would all cope.
"Here we goI have made some sandwiches, I am not sure what you all like so I made a mixture." Malia said setting them down on the table in front of the kids.
"Thanks." Jay said. He didn't move for the sandwiches just sat on the sofa looking at the TV.
Evie was the only one who made a move for the sandwiches. She picked up two trying to hand one to Chelsea but Chelsea just looked at it and shook her head.
Evie was not exactly sure as to what was happening, she understood that Cath was taken but didn't understand why. She had knew some of the risks from when her dad was in the Navy and people had told her about them. She knew that her dad's job was more dangerous than Cath's her dad had told her that when Cath went to sea. In the short space of time that Evie had known Cath she had loved her because she seemed to care more than her mom did and actually want to spend time with her.
After a couple more minutes of sitting in an awkward silence Jay got up and went upstairs. He didn't want to be with people. He always knew that something like this was going to happen. It always did, people who stayed in his and Chelsea's life for too long always seemed to end up in danger or dead and that was the fact of it. All Jay could think about was his mother being dead and not coming home, if she didn't make it home it would send Chelsea over the edge and he was pretty sure he would follow, he was not sure what they would do. Although he kept telling himself that he couldn't think like that, and that Steve would find her, he just couldn't get that feeling out of his head.
Soon after Jay left Chelsea walked out into the garden, she just had to get out of the room, she felt like both Malia and Evie had their eyes on her to make sure that she was okay, but she wasn't. She kept replaying the last conversation that she had, had with her mother over in her head, not wanting to say goodbye because she was leaving again. Not even bothering to look at her. If she didn't make it back this time she was not sure what she would do because she would never be able to forget that conversation that they had had.
Meanwhile…
Cath kept trying to move, trying to free her hands but nothing seemed to be working. She kept hearing a groan coming from the other side of the room but every time she said something there was another groan or silence, she assumed whoever it was, was either on conscious and slowly coming round or they were asleep and trying to pretend this wasn't happening.
She kept replaying what she could remember about what had happened but she was having limited success. She got as far as hearing the team going into the building and then something going wrong. She got hit over the head and then she remembered little bits of being in a helicopter. After that she remembered nothing. That was no help, if she couldn't work out who took her.
She was wondering what would be happening, if she would be presumed dead because of what went wrong, if people knew that she had been taken. She wanted to know if her kids and Steve had found out if she was dead or kidnapped. She hoped that if Steve knew she was kidnapped he would do everything to find her.
Meanwhile…
Joe White's team was having the most success. After using nearly all databases that the Navy had they had found that Wo Fat was in the same area as where Catherine had been taken from. This news had been told to everyone except Steve and Danny who were still at the hospital. Chin and Kono both looked at each other and knew what this meant. Everything else that Wo Fat had done was just a warm up and to make sure Steve looked after the kids and take his eye of Catherine.
Joe had then taken control on trying to find where they might be, looking at anywhere that Wo Fat or any of his close associates would be able to keep Cath. That gave them a lot of locations they had to check out, they knew that they had to somehow rule a lot of them out before they could even start looking into the others.
When Steve and Danny return they see that something has changed in the mood of the people. They seem to be more focused on one thing, that they have something that is going to help.
"How did it go at the hospital?" Commander White asks as he walks over to Steve.
"We were only allowed to speak to a few because others are still too badly injured and the only thing we found out is that two of them saw a helicopter in the area but they don't remember in being military and they don't remember seeing anything on it to make it a commercial one." Danny explained. He had remembered Steve walking into the ones he could see quite aggressively and it was only after Danny had pulled him aside and told him he needed to calm down because they were injured too and only doing their job that he finally calmed down to talk to them properly.
"What is going on here?" Steve asked.
"We think we have something on who took Catherine." Joe said. "We have looked at everything and we think that it was Wo Fat."
Everyone in the room had an eye on Steve, on what he would do next. His shoulders tensed and his hands made into fists at the side of him. He wanted nothing more than to lash out right now but he knew that if he did it here him and his team would be longer working on finding Catherine and be back to working ordinary everyday cases.
"Okay where do we start?" Steve asked. It was a shock to everyone at how calm his voice came out.
"Well we have everyone looking here to where they could be but me and you are going on a little walk." Joe said, leading the way out of the room.
Joe lead the way down the hallways and after a few turns Steve knew where Joe was taking him. To the gym.
"Here we go, let all the aggression out on to the punch bags." Joe said. He had decided to take Steve down here because he knew that the SEAL would not be able to control his anger for much longer and he would rather he do it here than in the Ops room, with many witnesses and get him kicked off working the case and possibly court martialled.
After about half an hour Steve started to slow down hitting the punch bag.
"You feeling better?" Joe asked stepping over to Steve and putting his hand on Steve's shoulders.
"Yeah let's go and see what they found." Steve said. "Thank you."
When they made it back up to the Ops room, everyone noticed that Steve was a little calmer than he was when he left.
"Have you got anything else?" Joe asked walking into the room.
"We have narrowed down some of the places that they are definitely not. But we are still finding more places that they could be holding them. We are still looking at air traffic trying to find that helicopter that some of the team saw but that is not going as well." Danny said standing up.
"Right if you want to focus on narrowing down places me and Steve are going to look for this helicopter." Joe said.
"Have you phoned home?" Joe asked. He knew that Steve cared about the kids but right now he was fully focusing on finding Cath so that he could call and give the kids some good news.
"Not yet, I don't know what to say. What can I say that we are no closer to finding your mom now than we were when I left this morning." Steve replied.
"You have got news, we have found out who has taken them. You have found locations and we are going to find out about that helicopter." Joe replied. He had to stay focused and he had to make Steve still believe that everything was going to be okay.
"Well I call them later and give them more news." Steve said.
"Well you can tell them once you have picked Mary up and gone home for the night." Joe replied. Steve was not going to work round the clock, he needed to go home and talk to the kids and make sure that they were okay.
"I was only going to pick her up and drop her home. We need to find Catherine." Steve replied.
"Yes and you are not going to help matters not seeing the kids and both you and your team working all night." Joe knew that most of this reasoning was not going to work and in the end he would have to order Steve to go home but he didn't want it to be an order.
"I will send my team home, but I have done many nights in a row without sleep I will be fine." Steve tried to argue.
"No you are going home as well. You need to speak to the kids and makes sure that they are alright I am asking you to go home with your team, if it turns into an order then so be it." Joe replied.
"Okay, but I am coming back early tomorrow morning." Steve said.
"You will report back after you and the kids have had breakfast, we will have people working to bring her home over night as well and you don't need to be here." Joe said not willing to compromise, it was going to be his way and he didn't care what Steve wanted. "Now let's stop this conversation because I am telling you, that is what you are going to do, and move on to find out about this helicopter."
"Sir." Steve said, knowing that it had turned into an order.
"This helicopter has to have taken off and landed somewhere, the way it was described it looks to be small and only travel for a limited amount of time. We need to look for places for it to land and see what we find, we are also going to look for places that could have picked it up. Steve I want you to use the maps of the area and look within a 100 mile radius of places it could land. I am going to start speaking to centres that could have detected that it was there." Joe said.
It was getting late in the afternoon and the team were making little progress. Steve was making very little progress having found many sites that it could have landed and many other routes it could have took. He was starting to think that if something didn't happen soon then Cath would never be found. He knew that Wo Fat needed to get in touch just to give them more information and more chance for them to be found. He knew they had made limited progress but it was progress that he would tell the kids about.
"It's time for you lot to go home and get some rest, I want you back on base by 0900 hours tomorrow." Commander Gutches said.
"Sir." Steve said, knowing that he would have to go home. He knew that Joe and a few others would stay but he knew that he would be ordered to go if he didn't.
"Your going just like that?" Danny asked.
"Well if don't go Joe will order me to go home anyway." Steve replied.
"Oh okay. Well I am going to pick Grace I will be back early tomorrow. And Steve we will find her." Danny said.
"Yeah boss, Cath will be fine, we have never not found any missing person." Kono added.
Steve knew they would find her, because whatever happened Wo Fat would let them find her in the end, he just wasn't sure if they would find her alive.
"Thanks guys, see you tomorrow." Steve said bidding goodbye to Danny and Kono.
"You going to pick up Mary?" Chin asked.
"Yeah she lands in about 5 minutes so hopefully I should be there by the time she is outside." Steve informed.
"I am going to head to yours I will wait with Malia until you get home."
"Thanks Chin, I couldn't do any of this without you lot and Malia helping with the kids."
"No problem." Chin said as he got on his bike and rode away.
A little while later…
"Hi Steve, what's happening?" Mary asked. She had only had a short brief idea of what had happened through the phone call that she had with Steve earlier.
"Cath was kidnapped during a mission. We are trying to find her but truthfully things aren't going as well as I would like. There is nothing to say where she will be." Steve informed Mary.
"Steve she is going to be okay. I believe you and your team they will find her."
Sorry for the slow updates. They will be updating more soon. Please review
