SARA'S SECRETS

CHAPTER SIX

Meanwhile in the break room Sara Sidle and Nick Stokes were getting the third degree about the changes between them and when the changes occurred.

"You are together? For how long? How did you get together? How serious is it? Does Gil know?" Catherine fired these questions at Sara and Nick who were standing next to each other and holding hands.

"Sara invited me over for breakfast and we talked and decided to start seeing each other. We want to be together not with anyone else." Nick left no room for doubts as to what Sara and he wanted, that they were together. "And yes Grissom does know. We don't intend to keep it a secret."

Grissom had walked in and asked "Don't intend to keep what a secret?"

"That Nick and I are seeing each other." Sara told him matter-of-factly.

"Oh, it is time for assignments, Catherine, you and Sara have a decomp address is on the assignment sheet." He hands it over to Catherine and told her to buy lemons. He smirked. Nick was mad, he knew Grissom gave that to Sara because she was seeing him. Grissom better watch himself, Nick thought. If he got out of line with Sara, Grissom would be answering to him, and Grissom wouldn't like that Nick would make sure of that. "Warrick you are solo tonight you have a db at the Tangiers ." Grissom hands Warrick the assignment sheet. "Nick you and I have a two db at a residence let's go." Warrick, Catherine and Sara are worried about Nick being paired with Grissom that night of all nights. What would happen between them? They hoped everything would be okay between the two men, but somehow they doubted it. They knew they were both professionals though so maybe it wouldn't be too bad. Grissom left the room and watched through the glass as Sara walked up to Nick and took his hand and kissed him briefly. Grissom realized that Sara loved Nick, he hated that because he has always known how much Nick has always loved Sara and he himself loves Sara but was always too scared to do anything about it. Now he had lost his chance.

On the way to the residence that held the two db Grissom said not one word to Nick. The silence was deafening neither man knew what to say to the other one. They were professional at the crime scene and only talked if it was about the case. Once they were back at the lab they dropped off evidence and went into the break room at the same time and no one else was back yet. Grissom started to talk to Nick. "You'll forgive me if I don't understand this, I thought Sara loved me and to find out she is seeing you, I don't understand it."

"Grissom, you strung Sara around for so long, she couldn't take it anymore and moved on with her life. I will not give Sara up for you or anybody. I care about Sara way too much for that. You screwed up, you could have had the best woman possible but you waited too long. She moved on with her life, you have to accept that." Nick informed Grissom and wondered where he was going with this. What did Grissom want Nick to say? Grissom had his back to the door and didn't see Catherine and Sara come in.

"I want you to break up with Sara or yours and her career will suffer. Do I make myself clear?" Grissom threatened Nick.

Catherine was livid. "You will do no such thing Gilbert Grissom if you even think about it, I will go to Ecklie and tell him and the sheriff what you just said and have you fired. Do I make myself clear?"

"Catherine, how can you say that Sara doesn't belong with Nick, she belongs with me. Can't you see that?"

"No I don't belong with you, I once told you that by the time you figured it out it would be too late, well guess what it has been too late for quite a while, before I even decided to date Nick so that had nothing to do with why I decided to be with Nick, you try to do this and I will nail your ass to the wall. Do I make myself clear?" Sara was very angry and everyone knew it. Sara continued. "You have no right to tell me who I can date. I don't belong with you. I don't want you even if Nick wasn't in the picture I wouldn't want you. You have your head buried in a microscope or with your bugs I don't need or want to compete with that. I have no romantic feelings for you left and I never will again, be sure of that especially after this. You have no right to threaten Nick or my career if he doesn't break up with me. You have no right to try to take what I want away from me for your own selfish gain. I won't let you. Do you hear me?"

"I told you I won't be without Sara no matter what. Your threats are meaningless I won't break up with Sara. I never would." Nick was very passionate as he said this.

"Give up Grissom you are outnumbered and we will go to Ecklie and the sheriff if you treat Nick and Sara any different than you always have." Catherine informed Grissom ready to take action if he didn't back down.

"Alright you've made your point. I won't do anything, they are safe from me." Grissom walked out saying "Don't we have cases to solve?"

"He is unbelievable, threatening me and Sara, thank you Cath for sticking up for us." Nick told Catherine.

"No problem, let's get back to work. Sara let's go we have evidence to process. I'll give you a minute with Nick then I expect you to meet me in layout room." Catherine walked out.

"Nick thank you for sticking up for us." Sara shyly said.

"I want to be with you. I don't care what Grissom or anyone else says. I want you."

"I want you too, Nick." Sara gently gave Nick a kiss and headed out to meet Catherine in layout.
