"Babe?" James asked, as he and Chris were lying in bed that night.
"mmm…" came Chris' reply, as he was nearly falling asleep whilst reading a book.
"Do you think it's time we start telling people about us?"
When Chris didn't answer, he continued "Like your parents?"
Chris sit bolt upright in bed. "Yeah, I was thinking that too. Why don't we video call them when we both get home from work tomorrow night?"
"Yeah. How do you think they'll take it?" asked James, nervously.
"Well. They've always been really supportive of me. So, hopefully they'll just be happy for me" said Chris confidently. "And then one day, they'll love you as much as I do" Chris teased, kissing James on the nose. "Now let's go to sleep – I'm wiped, and I've got Zach again in the morning."
James obediently lay down the bed with Chris in his arms. "Good night my love" whispered James in Chris' ear, before turning off the light.
When Chris and James got home that night, they settled down in front of Chris' laptop and selected "video chat". Chris had already called his parents to tell them that he would be calling for a video chat that evening. He had not mentioned James, but had told them that he had something very important to tell them.
"Ready?" he asking James, taking a deep breath.
"As I'll ever be" replied James.
"Come on, they're not that scary" said Chris, giving him a quick hug as James went into the kitchen to await his cue.
Chris pushed the call button on his laptop and waited until his parent's and sister's faces appeared on the screen. "Hi guys" he said, cheerfully. "Hi Sweetie" said his mum. They exchanged the normal greetings, and then his mum said "so tell us your news, we're going crazy over here"
Chris chuckled as James came into view.
"Who's that?" asked Hannah.
Chris took a deep breath and took James' hand in his. "This is my boyfriend James".
There was a silence.
"Congratulations guys. We thought it might be something like this." Said Chris' dad
"So..you're ok with this?" asked Chris, nervously.
"We are if you are" replied his mum.
Chris laughed. "I am. What about you Hannah?"
"Yes" she said, grinning.
The two boys looked at each other with love in their eyes, and Chris planted a soft kiss on James' lips.
Hannah cheered in the background, bringing the boys back to reality. They turned their attention towards the screen again.
"Welcome to the family, James. You must come to dinner next time Christopher comes up to visit" Karyn, Chris' mum said.
"I'd love to" replied James, feeling very pleases that he had been accepted so readily into his boyfriend's family.
