A/N: I finally finished the new chapter :D. This time it´s jealous Alec again, of an Ex of Magnus like MrsMagnusB wanted but in a slightly different way. I like the idea of an Ex wanting him back, so I might write one more with another Ex, maybe a female next time... Anyway, enjoy ;)
A pillow flying into his face startled Alec. He looked up from the book he was reading and saw Magnus standing in front of him. „Hurry up! We´re leaving in ten minutes."
Alec grunted. „And you had to throw a pillow at me to tell me that?"
Magnus shrugged. „I tried to tell you in another way but you weren´t listening." He held a bundle of clothes out to him. Alec took them and realized it were a simple button-down shirt and a black jeans. He was okay with it, so he didn´t bother too much that his boyfriend told him what to wear.
Magnus had to attend a meeting with an old warlock friend. He had claimed that this was more a matter of business than anything else, keeping up the relations between Downworlders and he didn´t really want to go. So Alec had agreed to accompany him to make it a bit more pleasant.
It did strike him as a bit odd when he saw the restaurant.
There were only tables with two chairs and candles and everywhere he looked were couples. The table where the waitress guided them to was as small as the others, with the exception that there was one extra chair added at one side. The other warlock was already there and stood up as they approached, a dashing smile on his face.
„Magnus!" he said and ignored the hand Magnus was politely reaching out to him. „Oh, come on. I haven´t seen you in decades and I don´t even get a hug?" he asked but didn´t wait for an answer, pulling him close with such force, that Magnus almost tripped. Alec wasn´t sure if he was just imagining it, but he thought the hug lasted a bit too long to be an appropriate greeting for distant friends. Before he could complain though, they moved apart and the other male glanced at him. „Who´s your companion?"
Magnus cleared his throat. „That´s Alexander Lightwood, my... boyfriend."
Was it just his imagination again or did he really hesitate before saying the word boyfriend?
„And Alec, this is Marco Rossi, High Warlock of Florence."
Marco´s eyes wandered up and down at him and he raised an eyebrow. „So the rumours are true." he said. „You are indeed sharing your bed with one of the nephilim."
Alec raised his head and looked down on the Italian. He was tall, but not as tall as Alec. He had black curly hair, but there was one deficit he had: he didn´t have blue eyes. His were brown and although they were somewhat beautiful, it just wasn´t blue and that was the fact that made Alec almost forget how deprecating the warlock acted towards him. Almost.
„Is that a problem for you?" he asked coldly.
The expression of the warlock changed and he put on a pearly white smile again. „Not at all. I am quite the open-minded type, as Magnus can certify." He winked at him. „Take a seat, please." he said and gestured towards the table. Magnus and Alec did so.
During the conversation Alec was feeling more and more vexed. Marco was babbling about the oh so exceptional things he had done with Magnus about a century ago with his oh so charming Italian accent. Granted, Magnus was trying all the time to include Alec in their dialogue so that he didn´t feel too much fifth wheel, but Alec´s pride was injured nevertheless. If you thought about it, it shouldn´t be that way. Alec was Magnus´ boyfriend, so Marco should be the one feeling out of place. Although he knew he was being stupid and that he meant so much more to Magnus than this warlock guy, it gave him a little sting that they had shared moments in the past together, at a time Alec hadn´t even existed.
However, since he couldn´t change anything at that and he wouldn´t anyway, because he respected Magnus´ past, he just kept listening and nodding politely and started playing with his fork out of pure boredom.
„Oh, and that time in Venice..."
Alec looked up abruptly. „Venice?"
Venice revived memories from the time when Magnus and Alec had travelled in Europe. Venice was where they had taken the clichéd but romantic gondola ride, visited a baroque theater and one night in the glamorous hotel suite...
Well, let´s just say that Venice was a special place for Alec and Magnus and, of course he knew that Magnus had been there before, presumably with other people and that the town held a lot more memories than just one romantic night with Alec, but... he just couldn´t help but get infuriated when this particular word came out of Marco´s mouth.
Marco had overstepped the invisible line to occupied territory and he didn´t seem to regret it.
„Yes, Venice." Marco continued. „The town is amazing. I believe it wouldn´t be an aggrandizement if I said the best time of my immortal life happened in Venezia. We should go there together some time. Re-experiencing the good old times." he took a sip of his wine. „Your nephilim can come, too, if you want. " he added as an afterthought.
„The nephilim has a name." Alec said and made a mental note to himself that he´d never call Simon the vampire anymore. The passive-aggressive demeanor of Marco Rossi was getting more and more on his nerves. Alec himself wasn´t the passive-aggressive kind of guy. He usually blurted it out straightforwardly if something was going against the grain for him.
All that calmed him down from starting a fight with him was Magnus hand that squeezed his gently under the table. He was looking at him with a pleading and apologetic expression at the same time. Alec understood. This was important for Magnus. That´s why he wouldn´t act like a jealous fury today. He composed himself and prepared to act civil during the rest of the dinner. Which was hard since Marco apparently tried in a subtle (or sometimes not so subtle) way to lure Magnus into his bedroom.
„Right. My apology... Alan?"
„Alec." he said through gritted teeth.
Marco laughed. „I always wondered how you could remember the names of your boy toys, Magnus."
Alec´s skin turned a furious shade of red.
„Alexander isn´t just a boy toy. He is special." Magnus said, looking right into Alec´s eyes to emphasis his words. Alec relaxed visibly.
Until Marco opened his mouth again. „All right. I have no problem with sharing."
Alec´s jaw dropped. „Wh-what?"
Marco turned his head towards the shadowhunter, a mildly annoyed expression on his face. „Oh come on, don´t be so prude. I´m not interested in starting a relationship with your boyfriend. I´m more the physical type. Emotions always just get in the way."
Alec gasped. „Ever heard of monogamy?" he almost hissed.
Marco made a face. „Immortality and monogamy don´t really work together. It gets boring rather quickly. Doesn´t it Magnus?"
Magnus raised his eyebrows. „No." he said. „No, not if it is with the right person.". He winked at Alec and smirked. „So. I need to go to the toilet. Can I leave you two alone? No discussions about monogamy, please." With that he stood up, not even waiting for an answer. But Alec was okay with it. He wanted to talk to Marco anyway, without Magnus listening.
„So.", Alec said, after taking a gulp of his wine in order to try swallow his anger.
„Marco. I´d like to make something very clear. I don´t like you in the slightest. And if I hear you making one more cheap hit on Magnus, I´m going to pin your hands to the wall. And I can´t promise them to still be attached to your body then."
Marco looked unfazed. He leaned over the table and looked Alec straight in the eyes. „I´d like to make something very clear to you, nephilim: You´re a mortal. You´re insignificant. Magnus may enjoy your company today, but what about tomorrow? You´ll age and you´ll die, but I´ll still be there. I´ll be there to console him, and believe me, I´ll make him forget you in a heartbeat. I´m patient. I always get what I want, even if it takes three or four decades. Shadowhunters have a tendency to die young."
Alec shot him a steely glance. For a moment he was speechless. Even though they had sorted things out, his mortality was still a sensitive subject. He found himself hating Marco Rossi more and more.
In an act of rage he banged his fist on the table and stood up. „You know what I hate? I hate people who talk about something they know absolutely nothing about. You´re trying to get into Magnus´ pants since we walked through the door and you know what? That´s probably gonna be the first time you won´t get what you want. Because as long as I live you won´t come near him again. You won´t call him, you won´t text him, nothing! Capisce? And if Magnus has any self-respect, which he does, he won´t even want you after I died. I assure you that."
Marco stared at him, completely speechless for once and Alec was pretty proud of himself. He pulled out some money for the waiter and put it on the table as Magnus returned. „We´re leaving." Alec said, grabbed him by the elbow and pulled him out of the restaurant. „See you never." he said to Marco before they were out of sight.
They walked back home in silence. Magnus would sneak glances at Alec, but he didn´t comment. Alec took it as a good sign since he didn´t shout at him for being rude to the other warlock. It wasn´t until they reached their loft when Magnus spoke again. „You know," he said, waiting for Alec to look at him. Alec had calmed down by now, enough to feel slightly ashamed about his outburst. „I secretly hoped you would do something like that." Magnus continued and smirked.
Alec blinked. „You´re not angry?"
Magnus laughed. „Quite the opposite, darling. I told you I don´t really like Marco Rossi. And thanks to you I hopefully won´t have to see him again anytime soon."
Alec raised a brow. „Glad to play into your hands." he said dryly. „Did you... Did you have... something with him?"
Magnus sighed. It was still hard for him to talk about certain things of his past, but he wanted Alec not to stop trusting him.
„Yes." he said. „But it was more an affair than a real relationship. In the end, we were just too different. Marco doesn´t really want me. He just wants someone to have fun with. Actually, the time with him is one of the things I´d like to forget."
Alec nodded. He knew he sometimes overdid it with his jealousy, he just couldn´t help it. He was just glad Magnus disliked Marco as much as Alec did.
A smirk appeared on Alec´s face and he stepped closer to his boyfriend. „I think we could arrange that." he whispered, and Magnus could feel his breath on his skin, so close was Alec to him. „Remember that time you gave me that hickey and Jace asked me if I had a fight with a vampire?"
Magnus chuckled. „Yes. Yes, I do."
Alec touched Magnus´ neck with his lips, a feather light touch, a promise of a kiss.
„If anyone forgets that you´re my boyfriend, they´ll remember if they see this."
And Alec kissed him right there, where it would be visible if he did it the right way. Magnus moaned in pleasure.
„So, what was that about Marco?" Alec asked.
Magnus had his eyes closed. „Marco who?" he said and Alec smiled, shoving his boyfriend into their bedroom.
„That´s my boy."
