Yehey! My group's project was great and the teacher exempted us from the exam :D More updates to celebrate my favorite seasons, fall and winter.
Zazie's POV
I was thrown to the ground but before he jabbed the knife into my head I managed to move away and kick him off me. He kept slashing away while I tried to fire my shindan. He kept going and I tripped. He slashed his knife but I covered myself with my arms. Blood flowed down my right arm but I managed to shoot my shindan with my left hand. It missed but it did distract him. I ran and I could hear his silent footsteps chasing after me. A knife flown by and almost hit my head but only missed by an inch. I ducked as more knives flew through the air. I made a turn into another alley. Right, Right, Left. I went where the alley led, into a dead end. The minute I turned around Gambit's knife is already at my throat. He pressed it against my neck and my old wound started to bleed again.
"Where is she?" His voice was calm but you can feel the desperation and absolute anger in his voice. His posture seems to be quite alert, like one move and he'd be cleaning my blood of his clothes and his eyes darted around as if he was keeping watch in case something happens or someone arrives. He's a mad man.
"I'll ask you again. Where. Is. She?" The knife is only a millimeter away from killing me.
"I don't know. I'm looking for her. She's missing." His eyes widened a bit but returned to normal as if nothing happened. He quickly hid the knife in his coat and left.
"Wait! If she's not with you… where do you think she'll go?" He frowned and hit me in the chest. I stumbled back a bit and took deep breathes.
"If I knew, why would I go to you? You really are dead from the neck up. "He walked away and tried to follow him but somehow my legs won't obey. I looked down to see my clothes torn and a dart sticking to my leg. Poison.
I felt something warm on my cheeks. Something rough brushed across my cheek. Wasiolka. I opened my eyes to see that we are still in the same alley from earlier. My mind was hazy and my eye sight was blurry but I'm conscious which is already good for me. I stayed on the damp ground for a while not minding the fact that I'm probably covered in dirt already. I finally decided to sit up in order to look at the map I have. If Gambit was here, he would've found her already. There is no point in looking in this town anymore.
I picked up my scarf that I dropped earlier and wrapped it around my wound on my arm. I know I have to get this treated but I don't have the luxury of time to go back to the Hive. There's a nudge on my arm and Wasiolka keeps going around me. When I turned my attention to her, she immediately ran out into the street. I picked up my stuff and ran after her. After a while she jumped on a carriage and pinned down the driver. I was about to think that she's going crazy until I noticed a dagger on one of the seats. I kept asking him where his passenger was but he didn't budge. I don't have time for this. I pulled out my map and checked the nearest city.
Dammit.
Undercurrent. Of all the many places here in Amberground, it has to be Undercurrent. I am such a lucky bastard.
I prepared for my trip and told Wasiolka to send a message to the Hive for me. I have to go alone but with any luck, there might be other Bees there that could help me. As Wasiolka set off, I go the other way. It's pretty difficult to find anyone who's willing to take me there so I just have to settle with walking. It'll probably take 3 hours plus the finding would approximately take me 2 or 3 before I get tired so I guess I still have 5 or 6 hours of work to go. I have a long day ahead of me so I better get started.
It took me longer than expected to get to the town and I guess the fight with Gambit wore me off too. I arrived late at night already and I'm spent. Looking for a place here is not easy but since I used to live here I know a couple of people that I can ask help from.
"341 Pines Grove street…" I stood in front of the building, my place of nightmares, the old orphanage. The same grey walls and wooden doors that are ready to give in at any time stared back at me. The air suddenly turned cold and I shivered. I knocked at the old oak double doors and after a while I could hear a set of footsteps in the inside.
"One second…" a high pitched voice said from the inside. The door creaked open a little and a small girl poked her head out. Her gray eyes scanned me and she grinned.
"I know you!" He squeaked with delight while she called out to others. Some kids were near my age while the others were no older than 6. They all greeted me with a smile and they started to gather around me.
"Sister Marianne! He's a Letter Bee! We can finally give our letters!" some kids started cheering and a few boys carried a sack filled with letters. Some of the people there greeted me too and pretty soon an older lady came out from one of the rooms. Her hair was white and her eyes were a dull blue but as soon as she saw me a grin spread around her wrinkled face.
"Oh! A Letter Bee. I haven't seen much of you visit our town since a few years ago. Hope you don't mind taking all our letters." I smiled. I know her. She's sister Alexandria, one of the people who took care of me. I guess it's been too long.
"Sister Alexandria, I'm glad to take your letters but I have some matters to attend to first. Also, can I stay here for the night? I really need a place to stay in. " She quickly nodded and led me to my old room. Still dusty, still dirty, still covered in webs but it's still the same old room.
