Another chapter. I can do this. *goes into writing mode*. *Takes inspiration from a song* Oh and by the way… only maybe 2 more chapters to go or one.
Zazie's POV
She stirred and looked at us. There was no sign of recognition in her eyes, in fact there was no sign of anything. I stared while I tried to think of any emotion that would fit her blank expression. I started to hit the glass wall and I yelled her name. Someone at the other side started to stare at me. Gambit told me over and over again to shut up but I didn't give until I realized there really was nothing I could do.
"How'd you survive this?" I asked as I sat beside him.
"I didn't. That's why our wish is to escape."
"Oh."
So there we were, sitting in silence, with nothing to do.
"This place is mad. The scientists here don't value life at all. They started with convicts but when they realized they were getting closer to achieving their desired results, they took innocent people. They ripped out hearts and forced them in something else. That's why the only thing I can remember is Nathalia. We didn't know each other personally but our cells were right beside each other. We talked when we were bored. We planned an escape, me and my friends but before we could do it, Nathalia was taken away to be tested. She told us to do the plan anyway. So we did what she said.
This place drove most of us near madness. What they do here is beyond what you thought. If I remember correctly, Nathalia spotted a gaichuu nest some time ago. It's also the fault of this place. It was one of their experiments…" he said.
"So many things happen here so when we escaped we thought we were free but it turns out you can't run one they've experimented on you. They told us that they won't experiment on us again if we do their dirty work. We were young and desperate to live so we agreed."
"So that's the reason why you're in the organization…"
Before I could continue a guard passed and snickered as he carried on his shoulder the limp form of Nathalia. There were still chains around her ankles and hands but she was in a sleep like state.
"I have a plan." Gambit whispered when the guard left.
"What is it?"
"You won't like it but just trust me…" He punched me in the face and when I fell he kicked me in the stomach and I felt the stabbing pain. I punched him back. An eye for an eye. We kept at it until the guards pulled us apart. We both stopped but Gambit took the gun he was hiding in his coat and shot the guards holding us. I punched him again for not telling me the plan and he just laughed and we ran down the hall.
"stop!" we were being chased and the odds didn't look like it was in our favor. We kept running and from time to time Gambit would shoot them. We were breathing hard when we hid in a room.
"Dang, out of bullets…" He tossed the gun to the side and we waited a few more minutes before going out to look for Nathalia.
We wandered through some halls and Gambit suddenly stopped at a glass cell. When I read the name, I couldn't believe it. I never knew that this could happen.
Clarent F. Verdencia
Experiment type: none
Gambit started to destroy the door and once it opened he hurried inside. There was a teen inside with ash black hair and hazel eyes. He backed away but Gambit carried him out and soon we were running down the halls with a kid muttering incoherent words.
"Listen kid, your sister is here and if you want to find her you need to shut up…" Gambit hissed.
The boy stared at him wide eyed.
"Nathalia is here?" I placed my hand on his mouth because I heard some footsteps nearby. When it was safe I removed my hand and he immediately started to ask questions about his sister. Instead of answering his questions, Gambit told him to shut up once more. The boy kept silent and didn't look at us anymore.
"I only wanted to know how she's doing…."
I felt bad for the kid, I really did but we really needed to stay quiet or else they'll catch us. We walked around aimlessly when I suddenly heard a gunshot followed by a sharp pain on my leg. I yelled for them to run and I tried to follow them the best that I can without dripping blood on the floor that the guards could use to track us down.
"In here!" I yelled at both of them and we entered a room. The scientists yelled and we found Nathalia on a weird chair in the center of the room. They all called in the guards and we tried to avoid them to the best that we can. Gambit started to stab people left and right while I tried to fight off the scientists who were blocking my way to Nathalia.
"Stop!" The mad man from earlier took my hand but I kicked his stomach and he stumbled back. Most of the people in the room were already down and some were injured. Gambit fought like a machine, never getting tired and never making a mistake. The mad man tackled me again then aimed a gun at me. I didn't know what I was doing but I looked through my pockets and hoped for a miracle. I found the gun from earlier and pulled the trigger.
For the first time in my life, I just killed a man.
The other scientists were stunned at the death of their leader. I took this to my advantage and took Nathalia. Gambit took another scientist and used him as a hostage so that we can escape easily. We went out and Clarent followed us out. We were only a few steps away from freedom when Gambit said that we should blow the place up. First, I just killed a guy and now he wants us to kill all the other guys?
"How about the other prisoners?" I asked him while I carried Nathalia on my shoulder like a caveman.
"There's no hope for them. Even if they escape, where will they go? This place if it survives will hunt them down, if not then the government will and if it's not both then hunters who sell humans for profit. I don't want them to experience the fear of hiding like we did. Until now we still hide. Don't worry. Their blood is on my hands. I take full responsibility." He said as he planted heart bombs wherever we pass. The bombs will cause little damage but their technology and chemicals will be affected and will probably start a fire. I silenced my conscience but whenever I passed a cell I opened it and told that person to leave.
We were nearing our destination when the guards started chasing us again. It was no use that Gambit took a hostage because they still started to shoot at us. Gambit just used the man as a human shield while he distracted the guards to let us escape. Me, Clarent and of course Nathalia, who I was still carrying on my back, jumped into the icy water. I swam to the boat and helped Clarent get on. Gambit waved at us and was about to jump into the water when we heard more gunshots. He fell and I helped him get on but the moment he lied down I knew he was gone. You know those books and stories where a character is about to die and he says his last words that are touching and encouraging? Well there was none of that. The bombs exploded causing a big fire but the only thing I could keep my eyes on was Gambit's dead body. I took off my coat and covered him. Nathalia was slumped down on the other side of the boat and Clarent hugged his sister and fell into a deep sleep. I rowed away and hoped that everything will finally be okay.
It's all over now.
I didn't want to kill a character but I someone I know suggested I make a plot twist so there. You happy now you little freak?! *sobs in a corner*
