Zazie's POV
"Happy Birthday to you ~ Happy Birthday to you~ Happy Birthday, happy birthday~ Happy Birthday to you. " The sang. I watched from the second floor as Maximus and Clarent presented Nathalia with a large cake. Almost everyone was down there and no one even noticed that the Hive's only Gaichuu Hunter is back.
It's been a year since the rescue and when Dr. Thunderland managed to treat her, we found out that she lost her memories. The told her that she had an accident and that she needed to be observed for a while so she needed to quit from being a Gaichuu Hunter and was instead given a job as another apprentice of Dr. Thunderland. Maximus was happy to have another sibling and soon their lives were back to normal. The Master gave me the job as a hunter and pretty soon I was travelling Amberground and was gone for nearly months.
I walked down and approached her. She didn't notice me at first because she was laughing with Jonathan and Mildred but when I got closer she stopped and smiled.
"Hi. My name's Zazie. Here…" I handed her a box containing the necklace Thief gave, the letter from Gambit and a note saying something private. She asked who it was from but I just told her it was from her friends. I slowly walked away and she blushed when she saw my note, before completely being out of sight I gave her a wink and a wave.
I waited and hoped my surprise would work. She went out and laughed when she saw what I prepared. I turned off the lights to her office and lit candles everywhere. I also set up a dinner for two and being the gentleman I was, I helped her get to her seat. She didn't ask about who Thief or Gambit was but she felt sad when the letter said goodbye.
"so… how do you know me Zazie?" she asked while stuffing herself silly with fish.
"I just do."
"No one just knows someone immediately…"
"Trust me. I just do." I replied. She pouted but I just laughed.
We spent most of the night just talking and laughing like we were old friends, we actually are, she just doesn't know it. We were getting to know each other all over again and if it was possible, I fell for her all over again too. When it was the 12th riku I offered to take her home. In a few hours I have to leave again but all that mattered now was the few more minutes I get to spend with her.
"So… This is my place. It was nice meeting you Zazie. Also thanks. It's not just for a while ago but Clarent told me that you helped us. He speaks so highly of you. You brought my brother back and you saved my life. I owe you…" I didn't let her finish because in that moment I kissed her. She kissed back. We don't know how fast it happened but Maximus stopped us by cussing and telling me to leave. I laughed as she was led inside by her brother. I mouthed the words "I love you" and she mouthed back "You're an idiot" and I said goodbye. She might have lost her memories but I know that she's still the same girl I met a year and a half ago. I now have a new life. I have people to protect now, those that I truly care about more than my life. I am the hunting bee, known for my power and known for being the one who protects all the other bees.
