Matilda swallowed hard as she stayed inside of Isaac's locker, listening as the man screamed for help. There was the sound of ripping flesh and blood squirting onto glass before silence. Matilda tried her hardest to keep her heart rate down, but she knew that even if she did, it would hear her heartbeat and find her. 'Oh I am so fucked,' she thought to herself as she stood inside of the locker. She heard the creature as it walked around the locker room, as if it didn't know where she was. It was playing with her, which bothered her greatly, but there was nothing she could do about it but sit there and try to think of an idea to get her the hell out of there.
Matilda watched as the shadow of the wolf made its way down the walk way between the lockers. It stopped right in front of her and stood up on its hind legs. Matilda closed her eyes, willing it to go away before she figured, she could surprise it.
With what little strength she had, Matilda unlocked the locker and shoved it forward, catching the beast in the face. It cried out and as Matilda turned to run off, it grabbed her ankle.
"Shit!" She yelped as she felt its claws cut at her ankle. She rolled over and looked up at the red eyed demon as it looked down at her. Quickly, Matilda lashed out at it the best she could, hitting it in the snout and punch found its eye. The Alpha roared loudly and slashed at her, making her gasp in pain as she felt her skin fold open and blood start to pour from her wounds.
She stayed still after that, keeping herself as quiet and still as possible, ignoring the burning sensation in her shoulder. It tilted its head to the side looking down at her. Matilda swallowed hard. What was it doing? It was…sniffing at her. She grew confused and looked at it, still terrified out of her mind. Then, a familiar noise was heard.
Matilda's eyes lit up as she heard Derek's howl. The wolf looked up, having also heard the howl. It growled angrily and Matilda attempted to slide herself back and out from under it, but it grabbed her, pulling her back. She yelped again, looking up at it. It opened its large jaws menacingly and Derek's howl was heard again, this time…closer.
The Alpha stopped a moment before it closed its jaws. It was…contemplating something until it heard the sound of a car door shutting. The Alpha glared down at Matilda before it turned from her and leapt through one of the windows.
Matilda lay in her position on the floor of the boy's locker room a moment, relief washing over her as she realized that the Alpha hadn't bitten her, she wasn't dead, and neither was Derek. Licking her bottom lip, Matilda stood up and tried to shake the terror off of her. Right now she needed to jump in to action. Crying could happen later.
Matilda looked towards the door where the janitor's remains were, as well as his blood before she eyed the broken window in the boy's bathroom area. She bit down on her bottom lip before she looked over at it, eying it up a moment before she sprinted towards the window. The woman latched on to the ledge, biting down on her bottom lip as she felt glass impale her fingers and hands before she pulled herself up. Previous years of gymnastics helped her as she lifted herself up and pushed herself through the window.
Once outside, Matilda enjoyed the wind for a brief second before she remembered that the Alpha was still around. Quickly, she darted for Derek's car. Once she got there, she was surprised to find that the doors were unlocked.
"Of course they are. It's how Deaton got out," she murmured as she pulled the door open and sat in the driver's seat. She sighed and was surprised when she found that the keys were in cup holder. Her eyes went up a moment before she looked over at the school. She bit down on her lip. She couldn't abandon them…but they abandoned her, didn't they? There was silence in the car and around her. What was she to do?
Another howl and determination spread over her features. She had to find Derek.
Pushing the keys into the ignition, Matilda started up the car. The Camaro roared to life and it was then that Matilda realized that she would attract the Alpha. She smirked, putting the car in reverse. Good.
Sure enough, the Alpha popped out of the school and eyed the car. Matilda revved the engine, challenging it before she reversed and turned the car around swiftly, heading down one of the back roads out of the school. The Alpha was hot on Matilda's tail as she sped down the road, hoping no one or nothing would jump out in front since she wouldn't be able to stop in time. It wasn't until she made it in to town that the Alpha heard sirens and took off. Matilda breathed a sigh of relief as she slowed down to a much more reasonable speed. She pulled over as the sirens passed by her, knowing that she needed to remain inconspicuous. As she sat there, she began to pluck glass out of her hands, having forgotten that they were there.
After the cops passed and the glass was gone, Matilda drove back to her house, parking Derek's car in her garage and shutting it before she went into her house. Once inside, she gasped, dropping the keys as she found Derek passed out on her floor.
"Derek!" She exclaimed, running to him and sliding into a kneeling position next to him. "Jesus Christ," she murmured, looking down at the hole on his chest, which was healing much more slowly than before. "You…you weren't even fully healed," she murmured before she gently slapped Derek's cheek. His eyes fluttered open a moment before they snapped open like he had just been burned with a hot poker. He sat up before groaning and clutching at his chest. "Derek, seriously?"
"Shut up," he grunted as he sat there before he moved to stand up. Matilda moved to his side quickly, making sure to keep him upright before she led her towards her room, despite his grunts of protest. Once in her room, Matilda helped him onto the bed and sighed.
"Do you want or need anything?" She asked him. He shook his head and she nodded before she sat down beside him. She looked down at him a moment. "Oh Derek," she whispered. The werewolf looked up at her, sighing softly before he brought his hand up to her face as her eyes watered.
"Stop. Don't start," he told her. She shook her head, tears dropping into her blanket. Derek gently brought his hand to the back of her head. "Come here," he murmured as she leaned forward, her face in his neck as she lay down beside him, sobbing against him. "It's okay," he murmured. "We're okay."
"B-but what about S-Scott and S-Stiles?" She blubbered and Derek sighed.
"I'm sure they're fine. I heard the sirens. Everything's fine." Matilda nodded her head against Derek's chest.
"It was so close," she murmured to him once she had calmed down. Her wolfman had been stroking her hair and being silent, but still comforting. Derek tensed at her words, his actions stopping.
"What?"
"The Alpha," she whispered. "He…he attacked me in the locker room. I tried to surprise him but all he did was overpower me. He cut open my ankle and my shoulder but then it…stopped…" Derek looked down at her, moving her hair from her tear streaked face.
"What do you mean it stopped?"
"It just looked at me and then we heard you howl…I tried to get away while he was distracted but he pulled me back and was about to bite me when you howled again and he took off…" Matilda paused. "Did…did you know I was in trouble?" Derek was quiet.
"I always know when you're in trouble," he whispered as they laid there. Matilda felt butterflies well up in her stomach, fluttering around before she squashed them. She sat up, remembering the day before.
"I should clean myself up…don't want to get blood everywhere," she muttered as she stood up and made her way out of her room towards the bathroom.
Once inside of her bathroom, Matilda took a few deep breaths before she took a long, hot shower, cursing as the soap from her shampoo and body wash filled into her wounds before she watched as blood, soap, and water circled the drain.
Finally clean, Matilda dried herself off before she applied ointment and bandages to her shoulder and ankle before she slipped on pajamas and returned to her bed room. She looked at her bed and was surprised that Derek was still there. Shrugging her shoulders, which hurt her a bit, she crawled into her bed, cuddling up to Derek, and falling asleep.
