Chapter 39

May stands in front of the group. They we're all in Coulson's gym, a private room where they wouldn't have to worry about being overheard.

She'd gone through and interviewed all of them, making sure that each one of them was prepared for what was to come, the mission they were going on.

She done Triplett first, made sure that he was trustworthy. Being the son of a howling commando, May had more trust in him than she had in others.

Mack had been second. He been harder to get a read on, but when explaining a rescue mission to get Skye he seemed keen. Even against his dislike to the super natural.

After was Hunter. A pin head and a tad annoying, but May could see he was good at heart, and up for the mission.

Fitz being last wore his heart on his sleeve. You could tell easily where his first priority was laying, and that was with Simmons. This plan hindered on rescuing not only Skye, but Simmons as well.

With Bobbi and Ward already set May had her team, and was ready to reveal the truth to all of them about Skye. Or at least what would get them on board.

"As you know I've cleared and vetted all of you for a rescue mission that involves saving Skye." She walks around the group. "As you know she was kidnapped almost a week ago. And we've been able to discover her location. Only problem is, there are some complications."

"Complications?" Hunter repeats. "That doesn't sound good."

May glares. "Now before we start I need to admit something to you that must stay in house. If this secret is to be revealed you are to be expelled, and most likely put on shield's radar as a criminal." The shoulders of the group stiffen. "Clear?"

The group mutters yeses, and nods. Ward and Bobbi stand back, already knowing the situation.

"Well than I have to admit something to you all. Skye is not my niece, like she may have told you." Fitz and Triplett seemed kind of shocked, but Hunter and Mack seem like they already guessed the answer. "For now all you need to know is that Skye has been an orphan most of her life, and that she's gone through a few struggles because of that." May breathes out. "This is why she's gotten into a situation like this."

Bobbi shows a white board in the room, with a few images already drawn on it. "Simmons made a discovery while working, that Skye is being held by the same organization she's working under. And through that we were able to discover her location."

"So why have you gathered us? Why not get a Shield team together and save her?" Mack asks.

Bobbi rolls back her shoulders. "We have a problem; you see we can't exactly trust the staff till Skye is safe. Plus saving Skye also means we have to get Simmons out, or she'll be facing a worse fate." Fitz clutches his knuckles, distressed about all of this. Any mention of Simmons was sure to get him fluttered like this.

"So what's the plan?" Fitz asks. Serious about saving both his friends.

"I was just about to explain." May smirks. As she goes about explaining the plan to her friends.

"I would like you to preform another test on Skye?" Raina says that morning as Simmons walks into Raina's office. Simmons gulps remembering Skye's reaction from this time.

"Preform, am I really best suited for that?" Simmons asks Raina.

She bites the edge of her finger. "Yes well preform is the wrong word, observe is the better approach. You see Whitehall will be looking at Skye's brain frequencies comparing them to the ones she had when she was a child." Raina pulls up a monitor picture. "Will be doing a number of tests that measure different areas of her brain, to compare them of when she was last in our care." Simmons eyes go wide looking at her old brain scans. They were far above average in a capacity that Simmons had never seen.

"I understand, what am I to be doing?"

"Just stay in the room and watch from behind the monitor with a few other experts. Really it's for your learning experience." Raina explains.

"But do I have to be in the room with her?" Simmons mutters.

Raina frowns. "It's so you can learn to initiate these procedures yourself." Raina folds some paper on her desk. "I'm preparing you Simmons." Jemma bites her lip. "You are here to learn after all. And if you want to follow science as a passion, you're going to need this experience." Raina stands up and holds out the paper. "Here this is the room it's in; the procedure will be taking place in an hour."

Simmons nods and thanks Raina before leaving the office. She takes a deep breath, and checks her phone. Messages popping up from Fitz.

Tomorrow, Silicon

Simmons is happy to receive this text, knowing their secret language from when her and Fitz had just been kids. Silicon was element number 14, which means they'd be there at 2o'clock tomorrow. That's when she'd have to find and save Skye. She imagined that she'd find a letter at her apartment later that evening as well. Explaining in detail of how the operation was going to take place. But for the purpose of phones being traced, they wouldn't risk sending operate message now, when all these people were watching her.

Simmons puts her phone away and heads to the coffee room on her new floor. She finds Bakshi in there when she arrives. "Oh Simmons what a wonderful surprise, I hear from Raina that you'll be observing the procedure this afternoon."

Simmons takes a seat at the table. "Ah yes I will be." She answers plainly while pouring some hot water into a tea cup. Had Raina already discussed this with Bakshi?

"Well it's not really a big one, mostly just measuring the girl's brain waves from her pain tolerance." Simmons stomach drops. Pain tolerance? No wonder Raina wanted her there, this was another test. Another way of making sure that she was one there side, that she wouldn't rush in and save Skye.

"Were you working here before?" Simmons asks Bakshi.

He stretches his hands. "Yeah just for the last stages though." He looks down at his coffee. "But gosh that girl looked dead."

Simmons clutches her tea. "I don't understand."

"Well it's just the look in her eyes when I saw her as a child. She'd been at the facility for about three years when I came in. I was there working on late stages with her, but the look in her eyes was just dead." He sips his coffee. "She seems better now, but my fear is will turn her into that again."

Was he being sincere? Or did he want to play her, sympathize with her and get her to reveal her true plan to rescue Skye.

"But she isn't human, so how do we know she wasn't just pretending?"

Bakshi smiles to himself. "Well she may not be human but she grew up as one. Besides you can't play with that look. The girl herself as emotions, no matter what we pretend." Bakshi looks at his clock. "Looks like the procedure is about to start, you better get going Doctor Simmons."

Simmons nods, while smacking her lips together.

"Right I'll see you later than." She mutters. Leaving the room off to watched her friend get tortured.

Simmons walks over to the experimentation room and stands outside. A few doctors were preparing things, and Simmons wasn't sure if she could handle it. Seeing her friend again.

Simmons gulps down the saliva in her throat, and opens the door. Skye was awake on a table, strapped down, with a few wires attached to her head. Simmons stomach does a summer sault, as Skye eye's wander to her.

"Ah Simmons, please go take a seat at the back." Whitehall instructs, not really knowing that he was exposing her more to the friend she didn't want to be exposed to.

Skye's eyes are almost blank as they look at Simmons. And Jemma can't do anything but turn her head and not stare at her.

Simmons does as she says and takes a seat behind a computer screen with a few other scientists.

Skye was strapped down, her hands and feet with plastic straps holding her down. Whitehall attaches more wires. Skye bites her lip, the pointy ends of the wires pitching her head as they strap on.

"Let's begin." Whitehall instructs to the staff in the room. A man at the back flips a switch and a buzzing sound is heard throughout the room. Skye begins to struggle. "Turn it up to 10%"

Skye lets out a grunt her body going back. Simmons squeezes the arm rests on her chair. If this was 10%?

"25%" Whitehall continues. Skye lets out another grunt, even closer to a scream. Her body spasms up, and Simmons finds herself gripping the table.

"40%" Skye lets out a small scream, her body moving on it's own because of the shocks. Simmons looks at the computer screen. The different patterns in her brain being compared to the last time. The scientist beside her was taking notes.

"50%" Whitehall demands. Skye peaks her head up and looks over at Simmons, her eyes are in tears, and Simmons know that it's her distant cry to try and get her help. Skye wants Simmons to save her. Even if her eyes were blank before, there is no denying her plea now. She has this small hope that Simmons will be the one to rescue her.

But Simmons can't.

Simmons looks at the floor, and Skye turns her head to the side. Skye lets out a louder scream, and Simmons body shakes from the impact of hearing it. Simmons bites her lip, looking up to make sure Skye's alright. This time the shock hit her harder than before.

"Please stop." Skye mutters, "it hurts…."

Whitehall just smiles. "Let's go to 90%"

"Are you sure she can handle the jump?" a doctor asks. Whitehall nods and Simmons has to close her eyes as she hears Skye start screaming again.

Sorry for not writing in a while, had exams last week (Uhh I'm so happy that's over with) than this week I was practicing for a play my school is putting on. But tonight's the last show, and I'm now free to write fan-fiction. And that new preview really motivated me; I was like screaming when I came on TV. I'm waiting for a fic to come out about it, but none has. Ahhh, I might just end up writing one to satisfy my needs. Anyway please review :D
