Chapter 43

Simmons leans against the wall, fear and boredom coursing through her mind. She couldn't believe that no one was coming, that she would be used as a test subject for them to try out Skye's DNA on, and discover whatever it was they were trying to discover.

"Simmons!?" She hears. It was the very voice she'd been missing so much.

Simmons gets up and goes to the door, to call out. "Fitz!" She cries, even though she didn't know if her voice would get through amidst the chaos of the alarms. Yet that wasn't stopping her. "Fitz!" She cries out again.

"Jemma!" She hears. Simmons comes close to tears as she sees his face through the glass door. "Jemma!" He shouts with joy, as he puts his hands on the glass. Simmons puts her forehead to the glass, tears of joy and relief leaving her eyes. "Stand back, I'll get you out."

Simmons does as she's told, as Fitz attaches a device to the door outside, and it breaks open. Fitz comes running through and wraps Jemma in his arms. Simmons wished she could do the same thing, but it was difficult with the handcuffs. "I didn't know, I mean I knew, but I…" Simmons was crying.

"Shh." Fitz stokes a hand through her hair. "I'm here now, and I want to help." Using some tools to get the handcuffs on Simmons, she rubs her wrists happy they're off. The next thing she does, surprises even Fitz. She wraps her arms around Fitz and kisses him.

"I couldn't forget." She tells him, her arms still wrapped around him. "I tried to, but everyday my mind would wander back Fitz." Fitz holds her close. "I really tried, but you were right Fitz." Jemma leans her head overtop of Fitz's shoulder. "I wanted to think we'd just be childhood friends, but being apart this week, I knew that we were more than that Fitz." Simmons rubs her eyes, to get rid of the tears. "I want to be more than that."

Fitz pushes her back, a relief that Simmons was alright, and the happiness of what she just told him. "We need to go Jemma, I would love to stay like this longer, but we need to get out of here." Fitz puts his hand in Jemma's. And together the two leave hand in hand.

"The ability to give, huh." Bobbi pulls a hand through her hair. "I see why she's so valuable to you now."

Just than the alarms begin to blare through the office. Quinn frowns and goes to pick up his phone on top of his desk. "What attacking, get the specimen out, everyone else can be replaced, I'll call some back up"

Bobbi throws a clip she'd grabbed out of her hair at Quinn, knocking his hand away from the phone. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." She explains

"What, I thought you were…" Bobbi smirks, as she goes to kick Ian in the face and send him on the ground.

"And I am, but I can't have you calling in back up, when Shield is so close to rescuing Skye." Bobbi stomps on his hand. He yelps. "After all, I think she's spent enough years being your play thing."

Ian tries to stand up, but his strength is nothing compared to Bobbi's. "I thought you were Hydra?" He chokes.

Bobbi takes the clip off the ground and puts it back in her hair. "And I am, in fact my mission from May was just to knock you unconscious, but I couldn't just do that. I had to learn more first. My business with Hydra is a whole other story." Bobbi bends down, so she can see Quinn's face. "Not that anyone will believe what you say about me."

Quin grinds his teeth, and grabs a gun from his jacket and points it at Bobbi's face, getting her to back up. But Bobbi just smiles. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." Bobbi grabs a phone out of her pocket. "Or your son Roy, is in for some major bruises and a lifetime at the fridge." Bobbi shows the picture of Mack holding a gun on Roy. "Now I wonder how much your son really knows."

Ian Quinn drops the gun. Frowning, because he knew that he had lost this fight.

Skye watches the medicine drip from the IV, like raindrops falling from an icicle. Skye sees the bottle of pills on the table across from her; they'd made her take one earlier. Who knew for what purpose?

Skye remembers seeing Simmons, seeing her just watch as they poked at her brain, as she was in pain. She looked sad, but Skye knew Simmons wasn't going to help her. She'd tried to ask for help, she'd tried, but Simmons couldn't even look at her. Skye knew the experiments that were going to come next, she knew because she'd been in this situation before. Next they were going to begin cutting her open; they were going to begin making new scars all over her. Skye couldn't let that happen, she couldn't let them take her.

Skye remembers Ian Quinn's words. "You are going to make me one of the most powerful men in the world."

Skye didn't understand, she didn't understand any of it. Or why, she was special. All her life she'd never noticed anything different about her. Sure she didn't have parents, but lots of kids didn't. Skye just didn't understand why she was an 0-8-4. She didn't have powers, and even though scientist were looking, and saw something different about her that wasn't human, that didn't mean she wasn't human. She had to be, she had to be human. She couldn't be different.

The fire.

Skye didn't remember much about the fire, or those last few months in general, but what she did remember is she could control it. She gave it to someone, and then she was able to control it from them. She'd been angry, and for the first time she wanted to be free. She'd wanted to try and be free. But of course that's not how it had worked.

If Skye caused that fire, maybe she was special after all.

But even so, she couldn't let these scientists discover it, she couldn't let Ian Quinn kill her trying to discover these secrets that Skye knew nothing about.

Skye reaches her hand, using all her strength just to grab the bottle. She had to escape; she had to escape this place. And with being rescued not being an option, Skye knew that there was only one other way. She'd waited for three years for a rescue last time; she couldn't afford to go through all that pain again. Waiting wasn't going to work here.

Skye uses her little strength to get the cap off the bottle of pills. She pours them into her hand.

"Coulson, Ward, everyone… I'm sorry." Skye gulps, as she looks at the white and red medicine. "But I don't want to be stuck here any longer."

Skye swallows the pill. Gulping them all back.

Laying her head on the pillow behind her, Skye closes her eyes. Waiting for the inevitable to happen.

Sorry to leave you on a bit of a cliffhanger, but hope it'll bring people back. Review, do you really think Skye is going to die?
