So there's this guy... let's call him... "Roger," now "Roger" heard about these puppies, 99 of them. And he met the puppies parents, two Dalmations named Pongo and Perdita. But Pongo and Perdita had been separated from their children by this... thing.. let's call it "The treasure box gremlin."
Now, L-.. "Roger" was a little rough around the edges. He kept his business to himself and he had a big heart. Every time somebody was hurting or in trouble, he did his best to find a solution. So when he heard that there were 99 puppies stranded out there in the world, he immediately got to work. He found the biggest house in town and raised the money to purchase it by selling.. let's call them.. "trophies" to anyone that wanted a large body's head mounted above their dinner table.
So Le- er.. "Roger" did this all in secret, and he gave the prime real estate property to a couple of dogs. Now, to a less informed person, this might have seemed a bit strange. But to.. let's call her "Anita," everything made sense. For you see, "Anita" knew "Roger's" heart better than anyone. Better than Cid, better than the Great Ninja Yuffie, better than even that Moogle that talks to everybody the moment they come into town. You know, the one with the well-groomed pom-pom? Anyway, "Anita" knew that "Roger" believed. He believed more than anyone that those 99 puppies would find their way home one day.
Every night, when Leo- oh, "Roger" thought "Anita" was asleep, he would sneak out of the hotel room he was renting and patrol the streets of the town in search for the lost puppies. "Anita" would watch from the hotel room window she was renting as "Roger" would go about the street with a bag of doggie treats and calling for each of the puppies by name.
This went on for a while, but there was neither tail or spot of the little puppies. Poor "Roger" was sad. So he would stay near Pongo and Perdita and check in on them, sharing his stash of doggie treats.
Eventually, a mysterious visitor appeared... let's call him.. "Spiky." Now "Spiky" wouldn't sit still, he was very hard to figure out. One moment he was there, the next he was gone. Sometimes when he got lost, he would wind up back where he was originally, or sometimes to fight more "treasure box gremlins" he would run through the hotel and back again, thinking it was good fun making more appear.
For whatever reason, "Roger" and "Anita" felt they could trust in this "Spiky" their deepest desire: The rescue of 99 puppies.
Now, this is where our tale gets a little fuzzy. Some of the legends say that "Spiky" never found a single puppy. Some say he found about... half. Others say he found all of them. But very few know how he did it.
All I can tell you for certain is that "Roger's" stash of doggie treats wasn't big enough for 101 dalmations. 99 of them still growing. Risking bankruptcy, "Roger" and "Anita" put the puppies up for adoption and fled from that little town. After all, they were a dozen years behind on their hotel bill. But don't worry about that. I hear the debt collector was the first person to get "treasure box gremlin'd" when "Spiky" showed up. So everything turned out absolutely fine.
Now my newly adopted 101 dalmations play out in the park, playing fetch with this stick. At least, they did, until.. let's call him "Joey," hopped along and took my pooh stick back to the Fellowship of the Pooh.
The End.
