Chapter 10

Reunion Part 2

"We should have a sleepover!" Tessa said. It was Thursday during lunch and Clary was still adjusting to school life. She didn't seem to be behind in school. But, socially, Clary was not doing well at all. Isabelle, Maia, and Tessa, have tried getting her to open up, but she usually gave short, curt answers that made her friends worry.

The students spread rumors about what may have happened to her, why she was living with Simon, and why she was frail.

"Yeah, that's a good idea," Maia agreed. She smiled and said, "Then we can go shopping and go see the latest movies. What do you say, Clary?"

Clary was staring at her hands which were curled up into her lap. She seemed to be in a daze. Isabelle snapped her fingers in front of Clary's face. She looked up immediately and said, "What?"

Isabelle gave her an exasperated look. "Ok, you're coming over my house after school on Friday. We will have some good, old fashioned, sleepover fun."

"Don't hurt me with the pillows," Clary laughed.

Lunch ended and Clary and Maia walked to their next class together. In the hallway, Clary caught Katie, the Seelie Queen, and Simon talking. Katie's long scarlet hair fell down to her back and her blue eyes were as bright as ever.

She was beautiful…

Katie saw her walking by and gave her a funny look. Then she smiled and pulled Simon into a hug. Clary really wanted to hurt Katie again just like she did in elementary school. However, she knew she wasn't physically capable of being in a fight. It didn't help at all that Katie was taller than her.

Clary bit back whatever nasty insult she wanted to say and turned the other way. Maia patted her on the back, which hurt by the way, and said, "She's not worth it. Don't let her get to you."

Clary sighed and gave her friend a small smile, "You're right. Plus, I have other things I need to worry about."

The classes passed slowly and Clary found the need to sleep even more. Her body felt overworked and all she wanted to do was collapse and never wake up again. But, if she did that then she'd never meet Jace by their tree again or see her friends.

A knock on the class door brought Clary out of her thoughts. The teacher opened the door and two police officers came in. One of them said, "Is Clarissa Fray here?"

Everyone in the classroom turned their eyes on her and she gulped. This wasn't going to be good.

*( Afterwards)*

Simon was annoyed.

First, Clary got hauled away by the police in the middle of class. Secondly, Jace, Isabelle, Maia, Tessa, and Alec were all waiting for her to come back so they decided to stay at his house.

"Shouldn't you be getting home?" Simon asked them. "I mean, it's getting late. How about I make sure Clary calls you when she comes back home?"

"No, I'm not leaving Clary again," Isabelle said.

"I second that," Jace said. "You'll just have to wait with us," He smirked.

"Why is she living with you anyway? I thought you guys hated each other," Tessa asked Simon.

He scratched the back of his neck and sighed, "Well, I got a mysterious call one day and the person on the other line told me to meet him in the abandoned storage units in the morning. So, I drove down there and these two henchmen brought me to the unit. Next thing you know Clary is being pushed towards me. We made up and now she's living with me."

"What about her mom and dad?" Alec asked. "Were they kidnapped too?"

"Yeah, but she hasn't mentioned anything about her mom or Luke," Simon said.

"Poor Clary," Maia said sadly.

The front door opened and Simon's mom and Clary came through the door. Clary's eyes and face were red, like she had been crying, and she looked scared, but also infuriated.

"Clary, are you ok?" Isabelle asked.

She shook her head and replied, bitterly, "No, I'm not. I'M NOT OK! God, the police think I'm in cahoots with Valentine and they keep asking where he's at. Like hell I do! But, they're not even thinking about my parents. They just want the fucking glory of capturing Valentine, the crime lord."

"Clary," Simon's mom put a hand on her shoulder. "They are searching for them. They'll be investigating your house and Luke's farm house for clues. Everything will be ok."

"No, it won't! They don't understand the five years of hell I had to go through! The things I've seen are awful," Clary laughed bitterly. "To think Jonathan was going to take me on quick trip to California. God, I was so fucking naïve."

Everyone in the room watched her in shock. They all had the same thoughts running through their heads.

What did Jonathan do to her?

She's so broken now…

I want to help her.

"Fuck the police," Jace said and he stood up. "We'll find your parents on our own. We're a bunch of resourceful, hormone crazed teenagers. Those are the kind of best detectives. Better than some damn adults if you ask me."

"We're definitely here for you, Clary," Alec told her.

"Yeah, and tomorrow at our sleepover we'll plan Operation: Find Clary's Parents and in the Process Kick Valentines' and Jonathan's Asses," Maia said.

Everyone in the room laughed and Clary said, "Thank you. Seriously,"

It may have just been Simon's imagination, but after she said that, he could've sworn she looked annoyed.

*( Sleepover Time)*

After school, the girls dragged Clary to the mall to find her more clothes to wear. Afterwards, they went to see a movie where Clary admitted that she only saw one movie during her five year captivity and it was an awful one at that. Maia told her they would take her to see five movies to make up for it.

Clary was tired after the movie so they went back to Isabelle's house where they painted each other's nails and had a pillow fight. It was so loud Alec and Jace banged on Isabelle's door.

"I hope you aren't doing naughty things in there without me in the room," Jace joked.

"Izzy, it's almost two o' clock in the morning. Go to sleep," Alec said in a muffled voice.

Tessa yawned, "Yeah, I'm tired. Let's sleep."

Isabelle's bed was big enough for two people to sleep in so she and Clary would sleep in the same bed. Tessa and Maia brought there sleeping bags and rolled them out on the floor.

They laid there in the dark for a little while and talked and giggled, but eventually Maia and Tessa fell asleep.

"Clary, you still awake?" Isabelle whispered.

"Yeah," Clary replied, "What's up?"

Isabelle sighed and said, "I just wanted to say I'm glad you're back. You're like a sister to me. And when you left… I was lonely. Basketball season, classes, everything was miserable without you. Jace was just as miserable too. He really cares about you too…"

"I felt the same way. I was so lonely…But, I'm back. Thanks Izzy for this sleepover. You're a great friend."

"No problem, but," Isabelle faced Clary and poked her in the ribs. "We're gonna have to fatten you up. You're way to skinny, girl."

Clary laughed, "Night, Izzy."

"Night, Clary."

Except Clary didn't go to sleep. She waited for another ten minutes and she heard everyone breathing softly.

Good, they were asleep.

Clary slowly got out of the bed and slipped her shoes on. She grabbed her light blue jacket off the floor and slowly opened up the door. Even though the damn door creaked, Clary was able to slip out quietly. She made her way down the stairs and almost made it to the door until she heard a voice say, "It's a bit too late for young girls to be traveling alone at night."

She jumped when she heard the voice and saw Jace sitting in the living room chair staring at her. She could see his gold eyes and they gleamed in the darkness like a lion.

He had on a white shirt and a pair of blue, plaid pajama pants. Jace stood up and walked over to her. "Where are you going?"

"It's none of your business, Jace," She replied. She was good at being stubborn.

Jace's hand tucked one of her red curls behind her ear. He then touched her cheek and said softly, "You know, we used to tell each other everything."

She slapped Jace's hand away and said, "Yeah, used to. Past tense. As in a long time ago."

"Well, you aregoing to tell me where you're sneaking off to. Present tense. As in right now," Jace countered.

Clary tapped her foot and stared up at Jace. It annoyed her that she was still short. Then she remembered on Tuesday after school how she cried and he held her tightly, not wanting to let go. She loved that feeling, but…

She couldn't be this weak forever. The weak were preyed on. Jonathan taught her that…

"Ok, I'll tell you along the way," Clary mumbled. "Let's hurry up and get back. I really want to sleep."

"Well, you could be sleeping right now if you weren't doing naughty things earlier,"

Clary didn't even respond.
