A/N..Hey guys,so this chapter does have some swearing in it just a heads up! Also, in the upcoming chapters there will be some self-harm but I'll try and remember to post that in each chapter as well! I know some things may be slightly confusing but I promise it will come together in the next chapter or so. One final note-this may be my last update for a few days. Work is super crazy this week and so I don't know when I'll have much time to update! I promise you at least a short chapter some time this week. Thanks for all the reviews and thoughts,I really appreciate them and hope you all continue to give feedback!
Happy Reading:)
"You're fine, just breathe," Brooke told herself as she finally stopped to catch her breath, "You can do this. Give yourself 5 minutes, you can do it."
Brooke took a few deep breaths, trying to wrap her head around what she had just heard. She knew it was only a matter of time before Hotch decided to go ahead without Brooke's input and she had to be prepared. She leaned back against the wall of a building and then slid down so she was sitting on the sidewalk.
"Focus, think, process," Brook murmured under her breath.
"You're talking to yourself again," a familiar voice said as a foot kicked Brooke softly in the shin.
Brooke looked up,shielding her eyes to make sure she had put the voice to the right person, "Leighton, hey."
Leighton sank down next to Brooke, "Hey,flyer. What's the news on your brother?"
Brooke shook her head, "I'd rather not."
"That bad?"
"I don't know if I can do this anymore."
Leighton looked at Brooke, hoping she hadn't said what she thought she had said, "Do what anymore?"
"This. All of this. Leighton, my life is falling apart. The doctor wants to pull the plug on Spencer, Christina hates me, Abby believes all the rumors, and..well, the pictures."
"Those were pretty bad."
"Were? Leighton, they ARE bad. They are all over the internet by now I'm sure."
"It's not like you were completely naked."
Brooke stood up, "Because just being topless is so much better."
"What about the tech lady you know? Can't she do anything? Take them all down or at least find out who posted them?"
"Garcia, and no she can't."
Brooke reached down to help pull Leighton up as Leighton asked her why it wasn't possible. Brooke rolled her eyes, "Because the interned it forever. Once they are on there, there is NO getting them back. Besides, they don't even know..."
"What do you mean they don't know? Brooke, that's like...what that guy did was illegal!"
"I kn-," Brooke paused as she processed what Leighton had said, "What do you mean 'that guy'? How do you know it was a guy?"
Leighton looked past Brooke and wrung her hands, "I don't,I mean well I just assumed it was a guy because why would a girl do that?"
"Tell me what you know,Leighton. Tell me now!"
"I don't know anything,I-I swear," Leighton stammered.
"Oh my gosh, you have got to be freaking kidding me," Brooke hollered at Leighton, "She did this, didn't she? She knew where I was because coach told her,she set this all up."
"Brooke, calm down. People are staring," Leighton whispered trying to get Brooke to keep her voice down.
"Calm down? You're telling me to calm down? My god, Leighton. SHE RUINED MY LIFE AND YOU LET HER," Brooke screamed.
"Please, just hear me out," Leighton swallowed hard as she reached for Brooke, "Please,Brooke. You know how-"
Brooke cut Leighton off, "How Christina is? Of course I know how she is! I just can't believe you went along with it!"
"Brooke, come on please don't be mad at me."
Brooke shook her head and stepped back, "I have to go."
"I think she heard what the doctor and I were discussing," Hotch told the team as they gathered in the waiting area of the hospital.
"So she ran, typical," Morgan groaned as he leaned against the wall.
"What did you expect her to do?" Garcia asked as she stood up, "That poor girl has been through hell."
"We've all been through hell and you don't see us running," Morgan sighed.
"She's a child, Derek Morgan. She's just a kid starting high school. She's dealing with the pressure of classes, cheer, her brother dying, and whatever else is going on. Don't you dare compare her to the rest of us," Garcia snapped, "I need air and then I am going to go call Brooke and tell her when she's ready she can come over and that there is a bed waiting for her and I'll cook her a nice home-cooked meal."
"Come on baby girl, I didn't mean it like that," Derek shouted to Garcia's retreating back.
"Let her go,Morgan. She's trying to deal with all of this as well. I think I'm going to go see if she's okay. JJ,you coming?" Emily asked as she started to walk away.
"Yeah,I'll be there in a second. Hotch, you'll keep us updated?"
"Of course. Go home, get some rest. I'm calling Strauss in a bit and explain the situation. I think she will understand if we need a couple days."
"You're a good man,Aaron. I think I need to go home too and try and get some sleep," Rossi said as he patted Hotch on the back, "Morgan,I think it would be wise if you left too for awhile. Clear your head a bit."
Morgan nodded and followed Rossi out of the hospital, giving one last quick glance towards Spencer's room.
Brooke wandered around town a little longer but was sure to text Garcia and let her know that she would be there tonight, she just needed some space and time to think. She followed that message up with a text to Hotch letting him know she was staying with Garcia. She had worried everyone enough lately.
"Brooke, hey Brooke, wait up."
Brooke slowed her pace and turned to look behind her and saw Abby, "Great, just great," Brooke growled under her breath.
"Hey, how is Spencer doing? Any change?" Abby asked as she finally caught up to her former best friend.
"Why do you care,Abby? Why are you even talking to me?"
Abby noticed the sound of defeat in Brooke's voice, "Because we used to be best friends and maybe I'm concerned."
Brooke let out a bitter laugh, "Right, like I'm supposed to believe that. Who sent you? Christina? Nah, that's not something she would do herself. Maybe Lizzie? Leighton?"
"Don't be stupid. No one sent me. I saw you walking and thought you might need a friend. But apparently I was wrong."
"I don't need you Abby. I never did," Brooke glanced at Abby out of the corner of her eye and then focused her attention forward so she didn't have to see the flash of pain that had crossed Abby's face.
"Really? Fine. I tried, Brooke. I was there for you when you got moved up to varsity and was there even when you treated me like shit. I stuck up for you and defended you when no one else would and now you're saying you don't need me?"
"You stuck up for me?! Abby, you asked me if I had slept with Jake and then even after I told you that nothing happened you didn't believe me. I screwed up,okay? I get that. I don't need you to remind me."
"That's the understatement of the year. You didn't just screw up, you seriously fucked up. I was going to try and be there for you, Brooke. But you don't need me. Good-luck when you come back to school. Trust me when I say you're going to need it," Abby called over her shoulder as she stormed off.
"Luck is for suckers," Brooke shouted at Abby's retreating back and then in a much quieter voice said, "And I'm not a sucker. I'm Brooklyn Reid and I have this all under control.
"She said she would be spending the night here but she isn't here yet. Where could she be?" Garcia asked JJ who was helping prep supper.
"She'll be here soon. If she said she will be here, she will be here. Besides,it's only 5:25," JJ gave her friend a quick reassuring squeeze before she finished setting the table, "It's okay that Emily is staying over too, right?"
Garcia smiled, "Of course it's fine. I think it will be good for Little Reid to have all of us girls here for her."
The two quietly went about finishing up supper and then waited patiently for Emily to show up, "She's still not here?" Emily asked as she settled down on the couch to wait.
"No,but she will be. She said she would be here," JJ replied, confident in the young girl she considered another sister.
"What if-," Penelope was cut off by a soft knock at the door.
"Garcia? Sorry I'm late," Brooke said as she walked in without waiting for someone to open the door.
Garcia wrapped her in a hug, "Don't be sorry. I'm just glad you're here," Garcia kept her hands on Brooke's shoulders but leaned back, "You okay, kiddo? You know Hotch won't do anything without your permission first."
Brooke forced a smile on her face, " I know and yes, I'm okay. I'm fine. It's all good."
"Good, now let's go eat before the food get's cold," Garcia said as she led the way into the kitchen.
